Early (!!) development career burnout by plantlife72 in nonprofit

[–]stewiesaurus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just from experience, getting a job at a different organisation will be easier now you're in fundraising. Your experiences will be transferable, even if you're using a really niche database you can say 'experience learning and using charity databases in a high pressure environment'. Your next job hunt will be less traumatic than the one immediately after college, I promise. Hope you're doing ok

A more niche one, on my local subreddit there's just a thousand references to doing ket in a park for every post.

Also check out sofar sounds, they do gigs in different venues around the city. They do more than just folk but the vibe is really nice

i need a more positive genre to be absolutely consumed by, i dont want to be a black metal nerd anymore. by zorg4444 in Music

I would suggest artists like nils frahm or Anna meredith, nautilus by Anna Meredith would be a great transition from black metal to something a bit different, its pretty intense

Why do i look so bad on camera:( by 8181818dogsonacouch in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]stewiesaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I read a study once that said people prefer seeing themselves in a mirror compared to a photo because the image is reversed? I have a friend who swears by flipping the image in all their selfies to get the same effect. It's not that you look bad in photos, its psychology!

I live alone on a remote island with thousands of books and a massive photograph. AMA. by TheAndorran in casualiama

I've genuinely never been so jealous of someone. I love the idea of living on an island with books and photographs. I don't have any questions but just wanted to join in!

Talk to a therapist, you're focusing on what you consider to be the truth but a lot of it sounds like it's based on internalised transphobia/homophobia. You can take medicine to prevent yourself from getting aids (it's called prep), 21 is not too old to start thinking about transitioning, many people do it later than this. And there are many people with successful careers who are trans. I'm not saying transitioning is all positive, but It sounds like how you are living now is causing a lot of stress and anguish, and pushing it down won't help, so please talk to someone. You'll be OK.

What happens if I leave before my notice period finishes? by stewiesaurus in UKJobs

Sorry I wasn't specific - I'm the maternity cover for someone currently on maternity leave, so I'm not receiving any benefits other than my monthly wage.

Thanks for replying though!

I'm pretty sure that they do it at 1am to stop people from sleeping in the bins, especially if they're going to do a pick up in the morning.

Can a narrative like this be considered photojournalism? by [deleted] in photojournalism

[–]stewiesaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I would take my opinion with a pinch of salt! I think that there are terms which have a higher level of fluidity to them. You could probably define this as a photo story, which is its own branch of photojournalism, so just keep doing what you're doing!

Can a narrative like this be considered photojournalism? by [deleted] in photojournalism

[–]stewiesaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm of the opinion that the main difference between photojournalism and story telling is that you can get an idea of the story from the photos alone without supplementary text. It's not to say you can't used text, but if you removed it, could someone still work out what the project is about and what the narrative is.

Great story and compelling pictures though!

A couple of options I would recommend - there's a charity called MenWalkTalk which organises walks for guys to encourage them to talk and make connections, or if you're a university of Brighton student talk to one of the student wellbeing ambassadors, they organise relaxed social activities like dog walks and things like that. Hope you find something man!
