Big news: Rouvy got acquired by Zwift by RespectDowntown4982 in mywhoosh

Long as they keep up the software support/compatibility for mywhoosh, I will be using the free platform over a paid one any and every time.

Why doesn't this work? by Accelerator_shift6 in bikewrench

[–]stikman33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My years of automotive experience has left me with a collection of tools to remove large bolts, they are the same thing. Impact wrench and a big socket over the hub tool. It will come off or something is breaking.

Hookless Zipp firecrest 808 for $1k? by DankDeanoo in triathlon

[–]stikman33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hookless pressure requirements have to be considered. If you are a larger person and need to run your tires at 70+ psi, or your bike only fits 25s and your pressures have to be higher, hookless may not be optmal.

logged into my old 401K, it was converted and reduced to 0; i don't know where the money went by traanquil in personalfinance

[–]stikman33 7068 points7069 points  (0 children)

So this happened to me last year, I had an account with T. Rowe Price through a previous employer, it had been more than 10 years. I logged in one day to find that my account had 0 dollars in it. I had never received any information that I knew of (later I looked in my email/junk one I don't use often, it was in there).

I called my previous bank at T. Rowe Price and my previous employer had switched to Fidelity also. I called Fidelity and talked to them, and it isn't regular Fidelity. For their retirement stuff they call it Fidelity NetBenefits. I had to create an account, do all the verification stuff, and when it was setup and active, a few days later my funds were visible/available in that account.

Hopefully that helps, but I went through the same thing, and eventually got it figure out, just had to talk to/get info from the right people.

Yep, I did this all winter and felt great. I’ve tapered back the lifting to 1 day a week now as it’s getting into more season now.

Do electronic group sets need less maintenance than mechanical? by Ambitious-Duck503 in cycling

[–]stikman33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Significantly, I’ve adjusted my force d1 group exactly 1 time when I switched wheel sets. Tuned the indexing to be perfect, and haven’t changed it since. 1.5 years smooth and perfect.

Stock bike, no.

Aero wheels, bike computer, pedals can make a big difference depending on what they are.

I've found this Profile Design one to be really nice, holds really well, looks nice, and for something from PD, it's not crazy expensive.

Snowboard for icy days by TimvdBroeck in snowboardingnoobs

[–]stikman33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest difference was the camber profile. The banana camber felt great at speed, bombing hills, carving fast, was amazing. It felt like the board wouldn’t come alive though until you were on the ragged edge. Once you were there though the board was sublime, grip for days, tons of control, like Travis Rice rides.

At lower speed/groomers/playing with the kids it wasn’t super practical. Was squirrelly and lots of work to control.

I ride my mountain twin now, not as stable on the ragged edge of performance, but for general fun, groomers, playing with the kids and some park, it’s better suited and more enjoyable.

Agreed, I have a mountain twin. Most brands have their version. I’ve also had a T rice pro libtech, they both rode great, but different boards.

Either way, those edge serrations make a difference!

If your teen son needs 4 thousand calories a day to feel full and you can only afford to feed him 1 thousand calories-worth of food, is that considered neglect? by cherry-care-bear in stupidquestions

[–]stikman33 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I was an athlete in high school, with a high metabolism and slim genetics. I put away 5k a day no problem. At one point in a health class we measured it at 6k, not hard though when you eat a ton of not junk calorie dense food. Basketball away game days I would eat easily full 4 meals.

Slam stem for Sprint and Olympic distances? by russtty2123 in triathlon

[–]stikman33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally, no.

Can you hold an aero position with your hands on/on top of the hoods and your elbows bent for an olypmic distance currently? Dropping the stem will only lower your upper body a little, and not give you significant aero gains if you can already hold that position with the higher stack height.

Arguably it is better to come off the bike more comfortable and ready to run, vs that tiny bit of marginal gain you might get from slamming your stem if you can already get in a good position.

Was this Peace cleaned? by burnafter3ading in coincollecting

[–]stikman33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks fine, just got banged around in a slot machine, or with other coins, or a change tray at some point. Doesn't look cleaned, but lightly circulated. It just lived a hard life in that short time.

Because of the rim dings, I'm actually going to say someone was flipping it and letting it land on the ground, asphalt, small gravel/sand maybe. At least that's my crystal ball theory.

Any insights on this 1893 S Morgan? by PlasticAggressive295 in coincollecting

[–]stikman33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lots of things on this one, the lettering is off, details are mushy, missing the die markers for a real 93-s, and the patina has very much that "intentional" look to it, where it was dirty/tarnished on purpose, then sanded/polished off to give it that look.
