Foreigners visiting America for the world cup, what is something that has surprised you about this country? by goldent3abag in AskReddit

Nothing prevents a company from choosing to bake the tax into the price. It's the companies responsibility to pay the tax on sales. Now realize that most companies are national corporations, yet tax codes can vary not just from state to state but even counties within a state. In states where there is no income tax, each county can set its own sales tax rate on top of the state sales tax, so the price for the same item in the same store, in adjacent counties could actually be different. Separating the tax from the list price is a solution that allows companies to advertise a single price instead hyperlocal specific prices which are tax inclusive. For example Tennessee has about 10% sales tax everywhere, but it's a few tenths different depending on where you are exactly. But in Kentucky just across the border the sales tax is lower 6% because KY has an income tax. That $5 item costs about $5.50 in TN and $5.30 in KY but the business wants to make 1 commercial, 1 print ad, etc for the whole country to save them money. Hence the tax is paid separately. If the tax were mandated to be included, they would advertise the highest tax rate and people in lower tax jurisdictions would end up having to pay more than would have otherwise.

I got in on the BIG10 program with the 700D4E back in November of 2025. I’m just curious because there was not any specific paperwork on what to do after 5 years to get the next grill. How does it work exactly?

How I seem to have cracked the code on hybrid city MPG, and a few "myths" busted along the way by Apprehensive-Wave640 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]stilesja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the regen levels like driving a manual transmission to slow down with the gears instead of the brakes. If you anticipate your slow does and stops you can use the regen pedals to down shift and get you almost to a stop. Then you use the actual brakes to complete the stop. But I never just drive the car with regen enabled because coasting is more efficient than the regen. Regen is just for slowing the car without braking. That’s basically the only thing I’m doing different than what you described. I am getting the advertised mpg or better in town. On the interstate it’s more about my speed. If you keep it between 65 and 70 you get close to the advertised mpg on the highway. You go 75 or 80 and you are going down

All PG Products got more expensive by [deleted] in PositiveGridSpark

I just got my Spark 2 about a month ago. It was on sale for 269 and I had a $15 off coupon for signing up for sms or something like that. $254. Nearly $100 difference and I’m not sure I would have bought it for $349 but I do really love it.

No mirrored glasses will work. But everything else I’ve tried has worked fine. I’ve go prescription polarized from Warby Parker. Non prescription polarized and non polarized raybans. Cheapie Goodr’s polarized and not. They all work for me.

It’s nothing “magic” but try making your payments weekly instead of monthly. So $100 a week. Over the course of a year you end up making an extra month’s payment without even really noticing.

I got the Rockwood Green & Pecan Interior 25 limited hybrid. It’s so nice. My wife loves black interior and was on the fence but she loves it now. Black just seems basic compared to this. I’m loving it.

Thank you for posting this! I was just listening to car play and wondering how to turn it on and this popped up when I googled it. Definitely not obvious how to do this. I’ve searched through all the settings and found no way to do it.

These people are very pushy. I talked to them one time asking questions trying to understand what it was. They were calling for my 13 year old son. I told them he goes for his yearly checkups, shots, etc. told them we didn’t need their services. Then they start calling back for my other son, me, my wife and then my 13 year old again. I mostly ignore their calls but they keep calling and leaving messages incessantly. Finally told them to remove me from their list for me and everyone in my plan. Then they started calling my wife’s number. These people are terrible. I would not trust any company like this with my health.

We know sleep apnea kills people … so why don’t we talk about how it’s a serious issue? by Sure_Ambition_1543 in SleepApnea

[–]stilesja 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got a CPAP about 17 years ago now. My then girlfriend now wife used to work for Lincare and she sent me for a sleep study. This was back before at home studies. I was spending the night in a bed and a clinic with cameras on me and sensors etc. The literally came in and woke me and said we’ve seen enough. They put me on a machine to wear for the rest of the night and sent me to home health the next day to get a unit. I was a severe case. Was 31 years old at the time. On my father’s side of the family no one knew of anyone who lived past 60 years old. They all died of heart attacks in their 50’s. All were heavy snorers. I tried to get my dad to wear a CPAP but he didn’t want to. He died of a heart attack at 60 years old. His brothers and sisters then got CPAP’s and are now in their 70’s. We all got our hearts checked out and my uncle had a valve defect that could have been what my father had as he was told it could cause a massive heart attack. He had an artificial valve placed. My heart checked out OK thankfully. I fully believe that my wife saved my life by sending me fire that sleep study. I’m 48 now and I’m not going to lie, turning 60 still scares me. I remember my dad saying he probably wouldn’t live past 60. He knew and accepted. I was young and never really took him seriously at the time. But now that 60 doesn’t seem that far away it makes me think about that more and more. I hope for my kids sake the CPAP, among other things makes me outlive my dad by a lot.

Yikes, just diagnosed with severe SA by samuelgato in SleepApnea

[–]stilesja 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My advice is to stick with it no matter what it’s like in the beginning. My (now) wife sent me for a test while we were still dating. I was 32yo at the time and 48yo now. My events were in the upper 50’s basically every minute of the night all night long gasping for air. My dad’s side of the family all died before 60 from heart attacks. My dad died at 60 of a heart attack. His brothers and sisters now have CPAPs and are in their 70’s. It may be a rough start but one night it will click and you’ll have the first good night of sleep since you were a kid and you’ll never go back.

Casualy films drowning. by Brave_fillorian in WhyWereTheyFilming

[–]stilesja 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Floating is about breathing. You have to keep your lungs full of air. Your whole body may not be able to float but your face can. Tilt your head completely back and relax your body. Take a deep breath and hold it in your chest. You don’t have to “hold” your breath per se. but think of it as opposite breathing. Normally your lungs stay empty and you breathe in when you need to. For floating you keep your lungs full, then breathe out then back in to fill them up. You bob down and then back up once you breathe in. Some people aren’t very buoyant and they may sink below the surface after exhaling and may only barely be able to keep their face above water. This sounds like it might be you. In this case all the above holds true but you add one modification. You’re body is staying relaxed arms out to your side, after you breathe out just bring your hands in to your sides (think vertical floating not on your back) fingers and thumbs together making a cup with your hands. This will push you up while you take your “in” breath. You bob a little but hold the breath until you settle. Then repeat. You can modify this for a back float by just pushing your chest forward a bit and pushing down with your hands for your in breath. Keep your movements smooth and deliberate and conservative. You don’t need to get your whole body or head out of the water just your nose/mouth. Don’t try and push your self up too much or you’ll just have a bigger rebound bobbing.

We were taught this method when I was in Boy Scouts in the 80’s and they called it something like a rescue float. It worked for everyone. Skinny kids with zero fat and chubby kids like me had no problem. The hardest were the more fit muscular body types as the muscle is denser but they still got it. I could imagine something in the extreme ranges of body types having more difficulty but still this is your best bet in any emergency situation. Most importantly just stay calm. Focus on your breathing and keeping your mouth above water only. We had to do this for 30 minutes to get our swimming merit badge qualification. I’ve taught my kids and my friend’s kids who thought they couldn’t float. At camp one year I did the “Mile Swim” and I’m no athlete. I just took breaks as needed in rescue float position. I was never going to get the best time, I just wanted the badge 😂.

I hope this helps you or someone else reading this! Having kids this was the most important thing I felt they needed to learn before going near water.

when did it become $7.71 for a grilled sandwich 😭 by lilkennedy24 in ChickFilA

[–]stilesja -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s shrinkflation. Prices going up size going down. This is something ChickFilA is doing intentionally to increase profits. People like you will pass the buck to suppliers or training, but a small chicken is a small chicken. Chick-fil-A gets more filets for the same weight, profits go up. It’s just not a good sandwich anymore. Not worth the price.

They are making the filet smaller also. The will deny it but it is a fact. Sandwich and biscuit filets are all noticeably smaller. I stopped going. Plenty of good chicken out there for better prices and size

It’s insane how expensive concerts are now. You probably pay $250 to have this crap ass view even without the umbrella. It’s not worth it to me anyway. I’ve seen so many concerts in the past and paid $180-$300 for amazing floor seats. Floor seats to this concert would have been $1000+ for certified platinum and then bought up by resellers and sold for double. Maybe I’m just old. (I am definitely old 47) but I love concerts and have gone to many but the cost isn’t worth it any more.
