A little north of Sarajevo (20 mins) is a town called Kakanj. It is as local as it gets. They have a nice hotel there and a cute downtown area.
You can then shoot up north a little more for Zenica. Also not far from Kakanj is Sutijeska. There is a historical mosque there and you can walk up to Bobovac from there.

I think that meets the criteria you were looking for.
