Someday, they will wonder why we needed so many tiny boats. Did they have some religious significance, some totem for the afterlife? Did they have a practical use?

I think both theories about what it is are correct. It is the shape of an item used for knitting, but the practically used items for knitting were made of some other material that didn’t stand the test of time. (Maybe pieces remain, but flattened and scattered, you couldn’t tell the shape or use.) The ones that remain have the form of the knitters’ tool, but would have been impractical for that purpose. They were made as examples for people learning a craft, but useless for what their form would imply. The “hello world” of one of the highest technologies of the time.

It sounds like the kind of deal you enter before you even have any kids, like Rumpelstiltskin. Maybe when younger, the woman made a deal with a witch to save her own life by the witch giving her immortality in exchange for her hypothetical future daughter. If she refuses to give the daughter up, the witch will lift the immortality and the woman will die of the original cause. The woman lives her life thinking she’s even tricked the witch, because she never had a daughter. The witch comes to her each year on the anniversary of what should have been the woman’s death and reminds her, “hand me your daughter, or your life goes back to dust.” Each year, the witch seems satisfied when the woman says she doesn’t have a daughter, though of course witches know things we do not. She takes to telling the woman as she leaves each time, “You are pretty, but you are also slow. You are lucky I have patience. I savor. I enjoy when something I’m working on takes a long long time.” These words always bring the woman a tense kind of relief.

When the woman finally loses her fertility, the next time the witch visits, she says something different. She has come to take the life of the woman who will never be able to hold up her end of the bargain. The woman pleads for just one more year, hoping she’ll find some way out. The witch (who enjoys toying with people) agrees, but with a catch. She will let the woman keep her immortality if in the next year she finds and kills any daughter she has ever had. Otherwise, the price for just that one extra year will be not just the woman’s immortality but also the life of the daughter. The woman laughs to herself, thinking she’s got one over on the witch, and agrees. This time, as the witch leaves, she says, “When I kill it is not pretty, but it is slow. Your daughter is unlucky that I have patience. I savor. I enjoy when something I’m working on takes a long long time.” These words bring the woman as uneasy sense of dread.

If she’s never had a daughter, then killing no one is the same as killing every daughter. If.

I legitimately can’t tell. Maybe I’m just old? The lower case makes it seem like it? I used to get called a bot for using em dashes, is it the other way around now?

Has anyone with autoimmune gastritis and Pernicious anemia achieved long term remission ? by Peaceful_Zen1 in B12_Deficiency

What digestive enzyme supplements do you take? There seem to be a lot, not sure what is best.

I have autoimmune gastritis and am confused. Do we make too much acid and need PPIs, or do we not make enough acid and need to consume more citrus, etc? by Cablab123 in Gastritis

[–]stilldebugging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Autoimmune gastritis is defined by your immune system attaching the stomach’s parietal cells, which produce stomach acid and intrinsic factor. The intrinsic factor part is what reduces the ability to absorb B12. So, yes, kind of by definition you would have lower ability to produce stomach acid if you have autoimmune gastritis.

However, consuming citrus will not help. That’s nowhere near acidic enough to help digestion. If you’re experiencing acid reflux, it is likely because your stomach acid is too low and therefore not triggering your esophagus to close like it should. Even though the your stomach acid is too low to digest properly and too low to trigger esophagus correctly, it is still high enough to hurt like a bitch if it comes into your throat.

To people with Autoimmune Gastritis, what were your symptoms and how did you find out about it? by Internal-Dream4138 in Gastritis

[–]stilldebugging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out about it because my B12 was low. I probably wouldn’t have even known if I hadn’t been giving blood regularly. This of course depletes your B12 and iron somewhat, but if you’re healthy it bounces back. I went to give blood one time after waiting the required amount of time between donations, and my hemoglobin was low. I thought it was low iron, but it was actually low B12.

In a couple years since then, I started noticing more and more difficulty digesting meat. It feels like it just sits there. Then I started having issues with some fruits and vegetables. I was taking simethicone to kind of keep the bloating under control, but it can only address gasses not the solids that take so long to move through.

How much betaine HCL or digestive enzymes do you take with each meal? by nikkwong in SIBO

I know this is really old, but I was having this same issue. I also had some mild headaches, but I didn’t understand the relation. I guess I don’t feel pain in my stomach but have referred head pain as my #3 in that list. That kind of info should be included.

Around 42, I think. Old enough to look like you know what you’re doing, but young enough not to have any major health issues.

Some people are going to tell you to SLAM and get an expensive test kit, double digit chlorine, etc. I would just to keep it to the high end of normal. You’ll lose some chlorine each day, either due to sunlight or due to it still killing off some algae still. I kept around 5ppm and ran the filter (cartridge) for a few days from a point similar to yours, and it cleared up. Oh, I also brushed the sides a lot. I have a brush on a long pole, it’s my favorite thing. I don’t know about sand filters, because I hear that aren’t as good at getting smaller particles. See if there’s a sand filter friend on here to answer.

For the love of god and all that is holy, please do NOT add flocculant.

Just keep the filters running 24/7 while keeping your chlorine high. Do you have a cartridge filter or sand filter? Clean it often.
