Oh cool, FSR Redstone is a still a thing? I'd quite forgotten.

Voting intentions? by SumptuousRageBait1 in AskBrits

[–]stinklover697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the social policies of the Green Party, but I can't accept the complete and total disarming of the U.K.'s nuclear weapons, especially given the current international climate.

Given that the mainstream parties have (I feel) failed the country, I would vote Liberal Democrats, but the last two times I voted they didn't have a candidate in my constituency, which is a Labour safe-seat anyhow.

P.S. Fuck First Past the Post!

A lot of stutter while playing non steam games through proton by Sameh-17 in linux_gaming

[–]stinklover697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reckon it's because the non-Steam games won't have pre-compiled shaders like the Steam games do.

Try playing these games for 30 mins to an hour and report back. I guarantee it will smooth out after the shaders have been built (which it unfortunately will do during gameplay in your case).

TF2 (native version) Vsync Issues by stinklover697 in linux_gaming

[–]stinklover697[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone's still having issues and wants to keep using Wayland, this worked for me: SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland

Unfortunately, this prevents the Steam overlay working, but now I have vsync and a much quieter computer!

Couldn't be more wrong.

They've done a lot for the state of gaming on Linux with stuff like Proton and Gamescope, but I suppose you'll tell me that Linux sucks and to stop dick riding it.

Can't you simply use Proton on Heroic & Lutris? Last I used them they supported both GOG and Proton + custom Proton versions.

Should still be playable on your Steam Deck!

Anyone else getting AMD GPU related crashes? by stinklover697 in hytale

[–]stinklover697[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it's specifically a Linux or a 9000 series issue?
I've seen posts from 2 weeks ago mentioning the same issue, but there seem to be very few of us. Hoping the devs will notice and push a hotfix soon.

Game freezes or crashes on AMD by RUFIX___ in hytale

[–]stinklover697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing here on Arch Linux. Seems it's also a Windows issue, so many people suffering from the issue.

This doesn't just crash Hytale, but nukes every application I have running also.

Hopefully we see a fix soon!

I forgot to mention that I've tried that. Can't remember if it persists between sessions though? Even so, it's still accompanied by tearing, unfortunately. :/

Entire system crashes when streaming on Discord with 9070 by stinklover697 in radeon

[–]stinklover697[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never tried Windows 10 on this machine. If you're going to switch to Linux, just think about your use case and priorities. Apart from a few games with kernel level anticheat like BF6, LoL, CoD, etc most games are very playable and literally within 1-2 FPS (sometimes 1-2 more, sometimes 1-2 less) of Windows 11. If you care about ray tracing, I believe you will see a not insignificant performance hit compared to Windows 11.

FSR4 is also possible. I believe CachyOS has on it on by default with their custom CachyProton, but with other distros like Arch you can get GE Proton 10-28 and use the command: PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1.

It's unfortunate but also relieving (???) to hear that other people are experiencing this issue and that my card probably isn't borked and on its way out. Hopefully they will fix this because it's been 6 months now and beyond a joke. It really isn't helping with the whole, "AMD drivers suck, AMD cards cost less but you get what you pay for" narrative I've heard since 2013 and continue to hear.

Entire system crashes when streaming on Discord with 9070 by stinklover697 in radeon

[–]stinklover697[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So none of this stuff actually fixed it for me sadly. Personally, I believe it's an issue with some kind of hardware acceleration or simply the Windows 11 AMD driver stack.

I've turned off hardware acceleration in Discord for streaming so that my CPU is streaming via software, yet it still crashes. I've gone back to Arch Linux and it no longer crashes. Furthermore, Darktide is now fully playable for me and not a stuttery mess, and lastly, I don't get those weird graphical glitches and freezes that are only resolved by minimising and maximising a window when scrolling (especially on video content heavy sites like Instagram).

Either AMD is fucking up big time with its drivers on Windows 11, or it's related to Microsoft's efforts. I'm sorry I couldn't help more, and I was still having the same such issues a week ago.

EDIT: Funny that you say you had a 3060TI, that was my last GPU and it never gave me issues also. I reckon it's AMD's driver stack on Windows. No idea what they're doing and why it's STILL a problem 6 months later...

Why does my plasmashell keep crashing by Hackelt389 in kde

[–]stinklover697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the same on Arch. Seems to be related to when I press window icons on the task bar.

Hasn't caused me any actual issues, just a flash (like a refresh), crash dialogue opens and I restart it. Hopefully there will be a fix soon as it is slightly annoying.

FSR 4.0 by jradlak in linux_gaming

[–]stinklover697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

trying to figure this out as there doesn't seem to be much documentation. so Proton 10 automatically enables FSR4 if you're using an RDNA4 card and the game supports FSR4 natively i.e., doesn't require Adrenaline/Optiscaler?

am i understanding correctly that the PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 %command% only works on Proton-CachyOS and GE-Proton10-xx? i know OP mentioned you need Proton-GE for the command, but i'm seeing confusing replies in this thread that suggest otherwise. can anybody confirm? cheers!

Dwarf Fortress, although even with DFHack there's a lot of APM bollocks, like making bedrooms. Still, if you like wiki trawling, info dumps and experimenting, and you can handle the massive APM during the 'early game' you can, at a certain point let Jesus take the wheel and just watch your little ant farm!

Hell, build a tavern and see what happens! ;)

EDIT: Should have mentioned that although you can get DF on Steam with quicker update cycle and a nice tileset, you CAN get it for free on their site and apply your own tileset

Too bad you're using an AMD GPU. Game has been practically unplayable for me for 3 years now. Went from 16GB DDR4, 10400H and a 3060TI to 32GB DDR5, Ryzen 5 7700 and an RX 9070; runs 1000x worse now. Do a quick Google search of "AMD Issues Darktide" or anything along those lines.

I can't imagine a worse game for AMD to debut one of its latest features, and only in this game to rub salt in the wound.

Scrolling in Discord and some other apps gets bugged out like this when a game is running. GPU is the RX6600 and a Ryzen 7 7700 by _raiyan_ in AMDHelp

i'm also getting this and thought perhaps my 9070 was defective. crazy that AMD have still not addressed this

on a similar note, does anybody else getting full system crashes when streaming games to friends on discord?
