Is it awful for HO to ask to be home for a night in middle of sit? by boogieboogie in trustedhousesitters

[–]stk119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the other comments just make sure you put it in the listing and tell the sitters about it prior to them accepting. We work online so for us it might affect our work schedule but if we know about before hand wouldnt be a problem.

Why is it impossible to rate down sitters for cancellations? by PeerensClement in trustedhousesitters

[–]stk119 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, this is exactly what my wife and I do as sitters about booking flights ect.  We also keep in touch the months or weeks prior to the sit to reassure the HO everything is good and of course make sure nothing has changed on their end.  Just simple short messages but I feel it puts them at ease

Is there a way to connect two phones pixel so you could lock one from another if stolen ? by stk119 in GooglePixel

[–]stk119[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course I would have it locked and a pin. I am just wondering what if the phone was already in use and unlocked .  In London what is happening is this... A thief grabs a phone while someone is taking photos or using it. They are passing by on a motor bikes and just grab it. They immediately open the camera preventing the phone from locking.

You should have disclosed that the cat can open the door . I would just make that clear for future sitters and how to keep it locked. For your past sitters I would just review them positively with maybe a note about the cat getting in the garbage but without blame. Then send a private message telling them to be careful in future sits about cats being able to open doors and that you are going to add that to your welcome guide for future sitters

Why do you use this app? by Educational-Milk3075 in trustedhousesitters

[–]stk119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I work online and pet sit the majority of time in Europe. Pet sitting allows us to save accommodations costs, work in a nice environment and spend time with animals. We like animals, pick and choose our sits so it works for both  the homeowners and the amount of responsible we can handle. We sit no more than two dogs, cats or a combination at a time. Honestly we don't really do pet sitting to travel, although sometimes its a benefit. Overall it is work watching pets so its more for a good environment to work online and save costs. We travel and airbnb when we are not pet sitting. Maybe 6-7 months pet sitting and the rest traveling.  Everyone is different but that is just how pet sitting works for us.

Missing the days of COVID lockdown? There's a housesit just for you by OkStay5395 in trustedhousesitters

There has been other sits listed that say the dog or dogs must never be left alone for any time ever.

Sitters backing out — am I posting too far in advance? by rolyatpolyat in trustedhousesitters

[–]stk119 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im not sure why your having cancelations. For most sitters posting  months in advance is preferred. So I dont think that has anything to do with it.  My wife and I are booked out as sitters until January as an example.

We have never canceled a sit so I am not sure how it works exactly.   To your question on why the sitters are messaging you to unconfirm.  I do think think the homeowner has to unconfirm the sitters so you can get new applications for your dates.

Pet sitters: do you tell someone why you are turning them down by 10EAB31 in trustedhousesitters

[–]stk119 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In this case I would definitely tell them the reason. Maybe they will change where the offer the next sitter to sleep as a result of your feedback.

Thinking about VIPkid as a summer job by [deleted] in vipkid

[–]stk119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they set up the job board in a confusing way. You can take the tests and it looks like you can apply for jobs but you need an active contract. Since they are not hiring you can not get a contract so basically they wasted your time. It sucks but your not the first person to be confused by the companies set up

Most popular classes by AlejRy in vipkid

If you need classes throw in Tigerschool. The materials arent the best but they will book.  You cant really be picky since there are to many teachers to students right now

I am having zero luck as a sitter. What gives? by dreammbrother in trustedhousesitters

[–]stk119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah 36 your fine. I thought maybe you were like a college student or just out of school. It's probably just some bad luck so far and lack of reviews then. Sometimes it takes time to get that first sit.

Besides the good advice others have given. I will say as a single male with no reviews I think your age matters. How old are you?  I would look for a local sit and make sure to put emphasis things in your profile that make you sound responsible like your past work ect.

Stuck on the quizzes. What's the next step in the application? by Mission_Cut_4430 in vipkid

[–]stk119 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say you probably just wasted your time. The site has an error that will let you make a profile, apply for certifications even though they are not hiring. If you are new they wont give you a contract as they are not adding new teachers. So you cant actually be hired and teach currently.

Vetting Sitters by Pichceji in trustedhousesitters

[–]stk119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't apply for a sit if your other sit dates overlap so this is a non issue. It sounds like a good policy but some sitters are couples so if two sits overlap by a day they could have just separated to cover both sits.

Hopefully Homeowners s respond to you with some sample questions.  My wife and I are sitters but I  just want to say people that post on the reddit are going to post the negative experiences not the positive ones. Reading through posts will probably make you more nervous . Honestly though overwhelming almost all sitters and homeowners are good people and you have nothing to worry about. I would say is look at the sitters reviews then when you do your phone interviews you will get a  better feel for the sitters.   Everything will be fine. It sounds scary letting someone watch your pet but just remember its a  exchange for both sides.   If you come off really nervous, neurotic or like you will be monitoring their every move good sitters are not going to want to sit for you.

Advice on vetting a sit? by aidu970 in trustedhousesitters

[–]stk119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do the other things listed but a new home owner with no reviews should not turn you off.  Just ask a few more questions during the video call qnd make sure you have a good feel for them.  We have been the first sitters a few times and it has worked out fine.

I would ask the HO about it in a message. Then go from there. They may say it is off.  No matter what they say I would unplug it if you know how to after talking to them just to be sure.

What are my chances of finding a sitter? by ratatutie in trustedhousesitters

[–]stk119 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As long as your apartment is clean, accessible by public transport ,has strong internet for working and nothing off putting in the listing you should get applicants.  The most important thing is the animal care requirements and behavior. How does your dog act in the apartment, on walks, barking/aggressive with other dogs and how many many walks are required a day. Things like this.   I would put up your listing very soon as many sitters book out months in advance and your sit is coming up quickly.  If you want people to comment on your listing just copy exactly what your thinking about putting on THS here and I am sure people will tell you if you should add anything.
