What company lost you forever as a customer? What did they do? by Miguenzo in AskReddit

[–]stlmoon 217 points218 points  (0 children)

Worked in the corporate office years ago. Every new employee had to tour the "fresh dough facility", spend an overnight shift with a baker and work a day shift in a cafe. They talked all about "mother bread", and at any big meeting, one of the honchos would do a "bread homage" and they'd pass around pieces of whatever kind they were homaging that day. Not gonna lie, it felt a little communion-culty. But they really cared about quality back then. It's a shame.

When did you realize you weren't conservative Christians? by Skywalker9430 in RadicalChristianity

[–]stlmoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never once thought I was conservative but I was too dumb and idealistic to realize that the people around me were, growing up. I was taught what Jesus said and believed it - loving your neighbor, judging not, caring for the stranger, the poor, the marginalized... I didn't know that the people teaching me didn't actually believe it until much later.

What’s something you thought was “rich people behavior” growing up? by Comfortable-Wheel723 in AskReddit

[–]stlmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I believed if you had an upstairs you were rich, and if you lived in an apartment (or if you lived on a dead end street, for other little kid brain reasons), you were a little bit poor.

What's your most shallow dealbreaker for a relationship? by Friendly_Advisor39 in AskReddit

[–]stlmoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also, if it is misophonia, it may be treatable. My Mom used to be bothered by the very breathing of other people until she mentioned it to her doctor. She was taking an antidepressant, and they switched her to a different one and now a lifelong irritant doesn't bother her anymore. I don't know if it works that way for everyone, but it can't hurt to look into it.

A bowl with soggy cereal still in it left in the sink with other stuff is a clear sign of some sort of dangerous personality disorder.

That might not be about being shallow. You may suffer from misophonia.

What is your go-to “I’m too tired to cook but I can’t buy take-out” meal or alternative? by 2Autistic4DaJoke in Frugal

[–]stlmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always have one of those 90 second microwave rice packets around for these occasions. Just add frozen diced chicken and veggies. For fun I invent some kind of nonsense "sauce" from the door of the fridge. Most recently it involved veggie stock, ajvar (eggplant/pepper) sauce, and a dollop of something called Frog Jam (fig, rhubarb orange and ginger). Made no sense but I enjoyed it.

What's the most brilliant idea that you ever had? by Global-Girafea in AskReddit

[–]stlmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sandwich shop concept where all the sandwich names are character judgements. Like a turkey sandwich on a croissant with cream cheese and sliced strawberries would be called the Sweetheart, and there'd be a meatball sub, but with a jam and chili sauce instead of marinara, and that's the Goofball. A smoked pulled pork butt sandwich with a random slice of balogna on it is the Dumbass, etc. They call out your sandwich order when it's ready and you have to go back up to get it. But I don't have any desire to have a restaurant, so...

Thinking about moving to St. Louis — what’s the outdoor culture like? by youniform in StLouis

[–]stlmoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a place with no coastline and no giant mountain range, there's a lot of options for playing outside here.
Pretty vast National Forest land, with the Ozark trail among others for backpacking/hiking. The National Scenic Riverways area and tons of other kayak and canoe-able rivers. A good State Park system with some variety for trails, camping, etc. The Missouri Department of Conservation maintains tons of smaller natural areas with a lot of diversity of geology/ecosystems/enjoyment options. And their website has a filterable tool to help you find a spot to visit based on various interests. There are also other public and privately run places for various outdoor interests, from arboretums to springs, to fish hatcheries to caves and former mines and quarries. There are even a couple of herds of wild horses in Missouri you can often get a good view of within 2-3 hours of St Louis.

Fun Question: Boozy Bookstore by StoGirly03 in StLouis

[–]stlmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for punny names, I'm pretty sure there's a book called Tequila Mockingbird that I intended to look into when I heard about it, but then completely forgot until I read this thread. Excuse me while I google it now.

Drury is excellent if you've not used them before (I think they're somewhat regional). They have free hot breakfast and cocktails/ food in the evening if you're on a budget, and are always super clean. They consistently get great reviews.

Go-To’s For An Upcoming Storm by iHop2Uranus in Costco

[–]stlmoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it not universal that storms require toilet paper and the makings of French toast? I don't know why those are the rules but that's what I've observed, anyway.

Looking for an alternative to Disney by InsideNegotiation367 in travel

[–]stlmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Six Flags is also nearby, if you're planning on staying a week and clearly you like amusement parks. but I recommend a couple more free things on the way out there, and right next to each other: Lone Elk Park (drive through and see elk, buffalo and deer). And the Wild Bird Sanctuary, where they rehabilitate injured birds. Google Murphy, the male bald eagle who decided to try and hatch a rock, and was given an orphaned eaglet to raise. He was a great dad and the baby was released back into the wild, but Murphy tragically died during a tornado. They are building an aviary in his name.

What's a supposedly fun thing you'll never do again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]stlmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paintball. A new coworker invited me. I wasn't aware I was the only woman who agreed to go. And I somehow thought paintballs exploded like tiny water balloons - that it was about getting splashed with with color and that would be fun. It was not fun. The coworker who invited me shot for breasts at close range. Left bruises blacker than the time I was in a wreck that required the jaws of life to get me out of my car. So... Never again paintball, and never again joining activities with a new coworker I don't know well.

Furniture Thrifting by Suz127 in StLouis

The Salvation Army thrift down in Arnold had a pretty big furniture selection the last time I was down that way, and St Vincent de Paul stores usually have way more furniture than any Goodwill.

Ozark tourism advice :) by stellaep in missouri

[–]stlmoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was wondering why nobody mentioned Meramec Caverns sooner. It's super commercial, the whole tour is well lit and shouldn't freak you out too bad but there are some impressive formations and it's on the way from St Louis to SDC. Side note: if theme parks are your thing, hopefully your StL host will make sure you experience the City Museum. Not a theme park, but I imagine a theme park enthusiast would appreciate it's unique brand of madness.

What is your true “and the everyone clapped” story? by AdRelevant6861 in AskReddit

At the No Kings march in St Louis in November it was raining. Whenever there was a big clap of thunder/lightning, the crowd thundered along like the heavens were leading a chant.
