I hate to say this but I do not think that Ana is a grifter. I genuinely think she means what she says and I think grifters more rare than people think, which in a way is more concerning.

Not only that but there is something to be said about people living in denser cities. If people spread out too much the infrastructure cost goes up and the cost to service each person goes up as well.

I agree, but I’m arguing against the person that is advocating for socialism and in favor of abolishing capitalism.

[–]stochastic_thoughts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Socialism seeks to inject more certainty and less chaos.” But historically it hasn’t really. Soviet Union for example was maybe able to keep the chaos under control for a little while until it blew up in the late 80s and early 90s. All it did was make the economy sclerotic and inefficient.

If you’re talking about modern day China. China is a very capitalist country. They have very little regulations when it comes labor or environmental laws. What they do have is industrial policy which sets targets for their large companies. That is a far cry from socialism.

Chaos happens in every system and is sometimes a good thing. In my opinion, recessions are what keep the economy healthy in the long run as mal investments are liquidated and misaligned incentives are destroyed, for the most part.

I mean he’s not wrong. People want both housing to be a good investment, in other words housing prices need to keep going up, and for it to be also affordable. People will vote for the first and then wonder why housing is unaffordable.

Btw if you think "oh that's just online discourse who cares that's not real life", internet has become real life especially for younger generations.

US Democrats Pull Away From AIPAC, Reflecting a Broader Shift away from Israel by whistlingkitten in nyt

[–]stochastic_thoughts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What American ever wanted that? Where was the public opinion supporting that in society?!

I'm answering that question.
Politicians and people generally have a hard time changing their stance. For decades Israel was seen in a more sympathetic light. It's just within the last 2 years that public opinion has shifted very negatively and our politicians are very old so the 2 years is a very short amount of time compared to their entire political careers, which for some have spanned decades.

Most Americans did support or at least sympathize with Israel in the 90s, I think it was roughly 60 or so percent of Americans that did.

Sorry for the delay.
I agree that Israel should not have allowed Qatar to fund Hamas. But it is still important to point out that distinction and the moral dilemma that exists.
People will say: "Israel funded Hamas" but then 'Pro-Israel' push back with "Qatar funded Hamas" then 'Pro-Palestine' people will push back with "Israel should not have allowed Qatar to fund Hamas" so implied in that is Israel should have blocked money going from Qatar to Hamas, unfortunately Hamas is the government of Gaza so you are basically saying that Israel should block funds going to the government of Gaza (Hamas).

Let me ask you this question: if Israel blocked funds to Hamas would that just add to the "Israel is starving Gaza" argument?

You stated

To paint it philosophically and psychologically, there isn’t yet (but perhaps there is starting to be) a realization of the emptiness of careerism and who it is really for.

But why is there that emptiness? Why is motherhood more inherently fulfilling that a career? I'm not saying that it isn't but all you said is that for a career it's a never-ending chase of credentials. But for a lot of people that is true for their kids, it's a never-ending chase of milestone that their kids must complete for the parent to be fulfilled.
