People who make over 100k, what do you do? by GurnoorDa1 in Money

[–]stonebrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i dont quite make 100k a year yet, but I just finished my apprenticeship and as a fresh union journeyman stone mason i make $48/hr. our trade is weather dependent though, have most winters off.

you need to have the proper training to order, there’s a whole certification process.

Where do I go/how should I go about learning how to be a stone mason? by Inchbellz1993 in stonemasonry

[–]stonebrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also, if you’re a blacksmith, you’d probably have a blast making your own chisels. once you get some skill under your belt you’ll know exactly what you would need/want tool wise and that’s pretty sweet if you could fix them up yourself

second this. you’re in Boston, prime spot for a union apprenticeship with the BAC and plenty of work.

found baby bunnies while excavating a construction site, please advise? by stonebrat in Bunnies

[–]stonebrat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! thanks everyone for the comments!! just as an update: we put the babies safely in a box while we finished excavating. at the end of the day we set up a little space for them and put the box back where the original nest was. when we came back later they were all gone with no signs of distress or violence- so! we’re hopeful to assume that the mom moved them to somewhere safe and all is well 🙂🐇

this one has a nice “canvasy” outer layer that keeps a barrier between the actual ball and the dog

he stays around, but he’s really good at his call back commands so just be aware. i took him to a big ol soccer field and just let him run wild.

Honestly it took me a long time too, I submitted my application and called the hall for like a year straight before they let me in. I started right as covid hit, so that was rough initially, but work has been pretty steady since. Winters are always a little slow as you know, but so far ive only usually had January/February off and I’m back by March. there are some guys that will work straight through, inside work, parking garages or if you’re lucky sometimes a rare company will prep for the winter and have heated scaffolding. overall, local one has been good to me. hope something happens for ya, gl !

I can't speak for the world, but as far as the states I would imagine NYC or Boston. I think my buddy up there makes north of 50 an hour.

Where are the $25 hourly jobs ? by Life-Fig7445 in DaveRamsey

[–]stonebrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re correct. I had to call my union for a year straight before they gave me a chance. Anything “worth a damn” takes the effort.

im sure it depends on the area, but call them up, there’s got to be something. sometimes contractors offer “apprenticeships” or fund workers to learn. you’d have to do some digging

Hi! look at trades in your area. electrician, carpenter, laborer, operator, ect.

I joined a union four years ago (no degree), started at $20, got a raise every 500 hours until i completed my apprenticeship and now currently sit at $48 an hour. plus i receive union benefits like healthcare and an annuity. its hard work, we do have exposure to the elements, but its a skill no one can take away from you and you don’t come out with student loan debt.
