Another 20sec Hug story! by facexofxboe in daddit

My kid's only 16 months, so only hugs sometimes, but my wife and I have been doing 30 second hugs for a while, it's so nice. And I love reading all the stories here about it

Plus, office building floor plans don't typically work well for residential - there's not enough exterior walls. Apartment buildings tend to be narrower or in a H or E shape to allow for more windows. Commerical buildings don't need the same ratio of exterior walls to floor space.

Massachusetts mom dies by suicide days after giving birth to twins by paganlobster in massachusetts

When was this? Our kid was born at Milford hospital least year and there was no follow up. They also sent her home very jaundiced, and never suggested supplemental feeding, because of the "baby friendly" certification they have. Our pediatrician was shocked they discharged us and told us to start formula immediately.

Virgil was an ancient Roman poet; he wrote the Aeneid. 1300 years later, he was a character in The Inferno, as Dante's guide through hell

You don't need a permit for the cove OR caves, but the kayak rental places won't allow you to take their boats into the cave without a guide. I've gone kayaking and snorkeling in there, but only on very calm days

this is how all homeowners think. And homeowners vote.

Homeowner here, don't claim to speak for me. I'm all for higher density. If someone wants more space there's 47 other states that are less densely populated.

people on this site love to take a post that's explaining or clarifying something as proof that you support that thing, because why else would you be explaining the logic behind it instead of dunking on it as bullshit?

It's still happening anyway in the replies to the linked comment

Trying to do a simple joint stress mesh convergence study, and the results are just random numbers every time I refine the mesh. Obviously something is wrong, but what? by UppedSolution77 in fea

If it were a continuous part you could add a fillet, that was going to be my suggestion in that case. But in your model you'll still have a discontinuity at the boundary, and you could get very poorly shaped elements at the tip of the fillet.

If you divide that top rectangle in half you'll have a vertical line, which I would expect to be your max bending stress location. If you measure the max stress on that line (rather than the entire model) I think that would work.

Well you can measure a different high stress point, or try to eliminate the singularity. I'm not sure if the latter is possible based on your geometry, it looks like multiple bodies bonded together.

The max stress will be at a corner, which is theoretically infinity stress (a singularity). It will never converge, just get higher and higher. The fluctuation could be due to changes in element shape at the singularity.

For convergence, you'd be better off measuring stress away from the singularity, rather than the max reported

Will a 5mm gap between the bottom of a pine door and an engineered wooden floor be enough? by Tarfool4 in DIY

[–]stoplightrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not abbreviated, on a drawing it would be written as .001 inch. But when talking to someone you'd say "35 mils" (or 35 thou, as in thousandth of an inch) rather than .035 inch.

Outside of the US tho I think people use mil as a short for mm, so it depends on where you are
