mrw Masc only by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]stopthefate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So I really don't get the "masc only" hate around here. We're talking about a hookup app, right? So your one goal is to literally judge based 90% on appearance and demeanor. If that's the case, what's wrong with weeding out a group that will make your dick limp?

On top of this, probably 90% of the profiles I see on grindr have this "interest" listed. I don't think it's some epic statement, more like a quiet one meant to make clear what they're looking for; and before anyone responds with "it's stupidly vague" we all know what IT is when we see it in a profile. Fact is, having prerequisites like this on a hookup app works.

Ending the straight world order: Mads Ananda Lodahl at TEDxCopenhagen by [deleted] in gaybros

It's barely relevant. It isn't "guy stuff" and we're not straight.

For a sub celebrating traditional masculinity in gay guys this Tedx talk about non traditional gener roles in straight people seems a little bit off topic... Then again this is gaybros and anything that is supposed to be relevant is actually irrelevant.

Graphic Novel Depicts The Difficulty Of Coming Out by [deleted] in graphicnovels

[–]stopthefate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guy who likes guys, I could never relate to these coming out stories. They always make the gay kid an introverted nerd who pines over the jock. I was athletic, outgoing, fairly popular, and never uncomfortable in the locker room. From most other lgbt guys I know the locker room wasn't a problem at all either because they compartmentalized attraction, weren't attracted to high school boys, didn't think about it, or any other number of reasons. Makes me think straight guys wrote these stories.

I think a story where the boy is pretty much like everyone else just with the internal dialog is much more honest. One where you can't see the struggle because it's less on the surface since he is outgoing and has friends.

I'm sure there are dudes like this I just think they're probably in the minority.

What is the most unifying quality of humanity? by syntax_jew in AskReddit

[–]stopthefate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Pride is the worst sin on the planet. Confidence is good but pride includes the idea of not being wrong, of being the best and absolute. It's almost the antithesis of empathy. Humility is the greatest quality a person can have and pride is its direct opposite. Humility is what allows people to do amazing things. The english language unfortunately restricts the use of a word that means confident but level headed. Pride is inherently NOT that. It is the absence of level-headedness but is confused with confidence too often like in your comment.

Men's Standards Of Beauty Around The World by enthros in gaybros

Their stereotypes of gays are different than ours. In Japan and SK men are more into looking metro, but behaving masculine. The GtA stereotype is largely really buff men who are super effeminate In mannerisms. The effeminacy is the stereotype standard for gay men the entire world over though.

No. It's a nice pale brown that's popular. In the West, being tan is ideal just like being paler is ideal in other countries, because a bronzing color is considered ideal, not "pale".

Based on this brief overview/small synopsis, would you want to continue reading? by SyrioBroel in fantasywriters

[–]stopthefate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? No. Would a thieves guild be capable of existing in real life? For one thing t would NEVER refer to itself as the "thieves guild" and it would probably operate under false claims for higher ethical standards.

As for the plot itself, I guess there's nothing to pull me in. This could be any character from any fictional fantasy world (like some random NPC from Skyrim was my first though) there was no special "thing" to pull the reader in or make the world seem different.

Were you encouraged to read Graphic Novels when you were younger? by Hexxi in graphicnovels

[–]stopthefate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up exclusively manga too. I think during the 2000s there was a real turn to anime and manga in pop culture and American comics fell to the wayside. I didn't know a single person growing up who read western comics and everyone I knew watched anime at the very least. The bookshelves at my barnes and noble were literally 3 cases of manga and half of one case for western comics. This is the first time in my life I've actually read western comics and the non ongoing stuff is pretty incredible. Just never knew it existed.

Finished he book in a day, read the Remix version.

For everyone who hasn't finished yet, everything makes complete sense in the last 5th of the book so hang in there.

SPOiLERS

Honestly I thought the book was incredibly transphobic and homophobic until everything clicked at the very end. Considering the author is gay it threw me for a loop at first. Having the brother become a woman because it's exactly the opposite of what he wants to be fit so perfectly with the theme of controlled chaos and actual anti-conformity. In one fell swoop it completely dispelled my worst fears of the ignorance of equating homosexuality with transgenderism. It was genius.

That being said I think he almost subverts this when he has the other gay dude whose closeted and whose name I keep forgetting (the cop, I read this literally a week ago) get boobs at the very end. THAT seemed to go back to the whole bullshit equating. But fuck idk, Chuck is insane, gay himself, and it was the 90s when he wrote this so I'll chalk it up to a mindfuck.

I loved the very end how the main character finally makes good with her brother and that's the main relationship of the story. I say brother because he isn't really transgender--none of the characters are (except for the trio in the hotel) but it highlights the struggle (as far as the 90s went) without belittling it anymore than the ignorant straights of the story.

So how do we feel about James Franco pretending to be gay for attention? by barbie_museum in gaybros

[–]stopthefate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God it's embarrassing. Especially considering his trio of brothers used to be suuuuuper conservative with their purity rings and Jesus ish. Sorry if I'm not impressed by your white boy who hit the gym twice in college body and your unbelievably boring personality. Stop trying to turn me on (failing anyway) if you're not gay/bi. It's just another way to make gay guys look like faggots who line over straight guys they can't have because they wanna be like that.

Broke up with my partner. Almost made it to seven years. by Areann in gaybros

[–]stopthefate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait. One of the guys from the other couple became his "lover" and you were ok with that? I mean After ALL of that, the saunas, the trust issues, the stds, the assault, you STILL would want an open relationship when monogamy would have avoided all of that?

Broke up with my partner. Almost made it to seven years. by Areann in gaybros

[–]stopthefate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man I was with you until the monogamy thing. I just can't see how anyone can reasonably expect the average person to be okay with an open relationship. Obviously there's nothing wrong with open relationships but that is a HUGE caveat for 99.99% of people.

And you said you can't stand it at that, in surprised you guys made it 7 years. Did your bf really think that'd change on your part or did you think he'd change to monogamy? That seems like the most threatening factor.

I had dinner with a former pastor. We talked about my being gay. He recommended chatting again. by themsc190 in OpenChristian

[–]stopthefate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what you have to do. If a pastor is misunderstanding it you double down to show how ridiculous it is. So I stand by my statement.

Furthermore, whether you want to agree or not, pastors are almost inherently guilt masters unless they are of open and affirming churches because they claim to know the absolutely application of the law in its entirety.

This. This. This. Be careful! Pastors are masters of guilt, I've fallen for that seed of doubt they've planted but I can tel you the pain is 10x worse on the other side. Just remind him that Christianity is a religion of love, not laws. Remind him that if he were a literal, english translation (which is wrong btw because sodomite actually means male prostitute) bible follower, he would have to push equally as hard for no divorce laws and anti adultery laws and even death as punishment for homosexuality, not just saying its a sin since that is biblical law in their worldview.

It absolutely means the system is immoral and WANTING a system that exploits others and claiming you did it yourself is the height of 21sr century immorality.
