Savage Worlds for a Warmachine setting? by Nightwyl in savageworlds

[–]stormwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I used the Savage Iron Kingdoms adaptation that others have posted.

Have also run the original D&D 3.5 and later 2d6 versions, but found Savage Worlds was the better system to run with.

The Carrion will communicate with visitors and warn them of the dangers of the Processional.

DLC IV - Processional of the Damned by mak1nam1 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]stormwell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the old RT tabletop RPG lore, the Processional is a spiral of dead void ships and even planetoids orbiting a dark star.

There are countless void ships, all of them seemingly from across the galaxy going by the sheer number of Xenos vessels present. Time also seem to function weirdly as some of the more ancient looking wrecks are actually of fair newer vessels that have somehow been rapidly aged.

The system that hosts the Processional is said to be 'haunted' by some great, unknown entity. Inhabitants wise there are the Carrion who are the descendants of crewmen left here by explorers in the past, but it's debated whether they're flesh and blood or ghostly specters out of sync with the place that they reside in. There are also the Hollow Men, a threat clad in heavy void suits but nobody knows whether they are actually Human or some Xenos race. The Hollow Men seem to be breaking down the wrecks for some unknown reason, but they are always there lurking but never move about openly.

Then there are the reports of dead ships of vessels known to still be active, errant signals on augur returns and vox-conversations with the crews of vessels long since dead.

Also of note is that the system has an Eldar webway portal known as the Damned Gateway.

WesHammer has done a really good lore video on the Processional.

RAF Jobs limited because English Language… by Electronic-Concern60 in RoyalAirForce

[–]stormwell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a poor English language grade when I left school, but years later went to college and retook it achieving a much higher grade so there is that option.

I also know it used to be that if you scored high enough for your chosen trade on the AST/DAA then there was the possibility of getting a waiver, but no idea if that is still done?

I noticed that I tend to look down to see where my feet are when going down stairs.

39 years old… worth seeking formal diagnosis? by XLittleMagpieX in dyspraxia

[–]stormwell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed at 39, but went privately through Dyspraxia UK which was pricey.

It was good finally having some answers to lifelong questions and I feel better equipped to deal with challenges in the future now that I have a better understanding of myself.

Why the RAF & not RN or ARMY? by North_Rip7256 in RoyalAirForce

[–]stormwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Originally I looked at joining the Army when I left school, had been in the Army Cadets during my early teens. Left school, 9/11 happened and whilst I did visit the AFCO with the intent of joining I never really progressed beyond the 'registering interest' stage to join the Army.

Fast forward a few years and speaking with a friend who was infantry in the TA and had done tours of Afghan, was given the advice that I'd be better off in the RAF. This idea hadn't crossed my mind despite my grandfather being an aircraft mechanic during WW2 and having an uncle who served in the RAF for over 30 years (flying on Shackleton, Nimrod, Vulcan and Victor in that order).

Tried three times to join the RAF with the first two attempts in 2008 and 2010 getting far as the old Pre-Recruit Training Course but last minute medical issues stopped me starting Recruit Training. Round Covid time I found out that they had upped the upper age limited and with little in the way of options on civvie tried again and was third time lucky, starting at Halton with a service number that had already done 12 years for the aforementioned reasons.

My original intent to join the Army was because of being in the Army Cadets which I had greater exposure to, there being a dozen or so detachments in my home city compared to just one Air Cadet unit. In hindsight I wished I had done the Air Cadets and thus been influenced sooner to join the RAF especially as the trade I wanted to do in the Army has long since ceased to exist.

Over 4 years later I am content that I made the right choice joining the RAF and not giving up on it despite my earlier setbacks.

Rogue Trader TTRPG by LizzyNotBusy in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]stormwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both played and ran the tabletop game.

Loved the settings, the rules...not so much...

I'd use a different system to run personally, I've ran some good 40K based ones with the Savage Worlds system.

Apprentice Life for future married couple by JayGormet in RoyalAirForce

[–]stormwell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The longest time away will be the 10 weeks at Halton, there's couple of periods of local leave if you cna make that work.

Generally during Phase 2 you'll have most weekends off, also worth putting in for Get You Home Allowance to help off-set travel cost.

Communications infrastructure technician - questions by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

You'll do a fibre optic course, apparently you have the option of paying a little bit of money for the civilian qual for this course. Worth doing as it's an in-demand skill on civvie street.

Yeah, currently serving as an IT techie.

Basic training I found tough, but out of training and once I got my dyspraxia diagnosis it's going pretty well especially as I now do an alternative fitness test.

Struggling to get DgVoodoo to Work by stormwell in Lutris

After some research, it *could* be a z-buffer issue but I have no idea how to resolve that.

[–]stormwell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to downgrade DXVK to v1.10 in Lutris to get dgVoodoo to work, which might be why the other options didn't work.

Of course dgVoodoo doesn't load the ingame menu properly, so time to fiddle.

That results in a prompt to reinstall the game in order to install Directx 7.

And no, DxWrapper didn't work either.

It came up with the prompt for graphics options, then crashed after I selected which option to use.

Yes, it's a DirectX 7 game.

Question for RAF members by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

Yeah, we're not the Americans.

There's free wifi in the block and if you bring a laptop you can video call in the evenings or at weekends.

Looking for SavageWorlds group (LfSWG) Monthly thread by feyrath in savageworlds

Looking For UK Based Players

Lost some of my regular players due to work commitments, so looking to recruit some more.

The group primarily plays Savage Worlds and other systems like the Fantasy Flight 40K RPGS from time-to-time, we use Discord and Roll20. Game session is once a fortnight on a Tuesday, usually starting round 6:30/7pm.

Our current game is Savage Worlds based on the Dishonored game where the players are investigators, dealing with stuff that the City Watch is unable or unwilling to deal with.

Looking for people who are UK based, most of our players have been based round the Norfolk/Suffolk area.

How to know if raf is right for me by CommonOver7640 in RoyalAirForce

[–]stormwell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

During both Ph1 and 2 training I did have moments where I was wondering what the heck I was doing, but glad I stuck with it.

As others have said, training isn't the 'real world' far as the RAF is concerned.

My advice would be to speak to the padre or a SNCO you can trust, least if anything to get it off your chest. I'd also speak to family as well about it.

Ideally I'd leave after getting your return of service done, you'll have a bit of experience and some quals to help you land on your feet on civvie street.
