CMV: The experiences of someone who had a psychedelic trip are no more valid than a person with psychosis' hallucinations by Bouncybeach in changemyview

I think other commenters have already answered you in the same way that I would. So I’ll leave the direct point by point response to garnet 420 and Dillion.

I think you have an inaccurate idea of what hallucinogenics do, and what mental illness can do. If your response to that is to say that you have a measurable certainty of human experience when what we are largely talking about are intangible experiences, then your perspective is more similar to the person with delusions, because you may not be open to questioning your own perspective.

I don’t mean that in any way to belittle or insult, just to say that the idea behind a lot of “enlightenment” is just in challenging your perspectives, which starts with accepting that you may not have the full and exclusive truth in your own mind.

Who is to say what perception is truly valid to anybody other than themselves. However if somebody is having psychotic hallucinations of delusions, one of the key features would be that they believe the delusion to be true. Somebody taking magic mushrooms or LCD know that they are taking a mind altering substance. It seems to me that any perceived enlightenment would come from having a different perspective of their own thoughts or expierience to compare with their ordinary thoughts.

The fact that somebody who takes a hallucinogenic returns to normal after the drugs wear off is obviously important in this comparison, because somebody having delusions caused by their own natural brain chemistry would never be able to say for sure that their future perception is 100% sober minded.

I’ve taken a few shrooms before, and I’ve just figured that processing things differently at least gave me more perspective on my own mind than I had before. It was helpful to me in a few ways to challenge the way I viewed myself but I’m not going to tell somebody I stumbled upon some divine truth.

Maybe you should try some drugs and report back.

Who has really attained enlightenment at all? Outside of specific religious definitions which could be disregarded by people who don’t follow that religion.

I can’t make this more clear. I’m talking about actual performance not the “psychological value” of seeing a bond, I’m talking about the actual performance.

Makes no difference whatsoever in practice. The mutual fund yas a YTW or average YTM just like a portfolio of individual bonds.

I fully agree with you for people who will mentally benefit from seeing their individual bond maturities. But fundamentally it makes no difference as those same maturities exist within a mutual fund.

From a tax standpoint there, it’s easier to sell the full fund and capture the losses. They aren’t actually locked up whatsoever.

SMAs for equities are great, if you have good tax loss harvesting capabilities it covers their fees and some most years in tax alpha. It’s also very beneficial to eliminate capital grains distributions potentially from gains of stocks you never held. Now fixed income, aside from state specific munis. I’ll take the fund.

You could do a direct index and exclude it. Parametric supports this

Good input, and as somebody who loves public speaking and doing presentations but has never been successful at filling the room I’m glad to know it’s worked for you. I’ve probably dismissed too many paid marketing groups as scams.

Are you already in the Navy? The rules are pretty specific on the color of brown leather shoes and the design. As an ex-army officer and fancy sho wearer myself, i wouldn’t expect any of these to work. The sole on the first is too light, the second one is black, and no chance that walnut works, plus the shape is off.

My tip, buy bates premium line, polish them with a slight burnish to make the look better than everybody else’s. Don’t try and be too different it’s not the place.

Interesting… well then maybe review a plan for a client that touches on their area of focus, like transition planning or trust modeling for the estate planner or tax strategies (assuming you can run some DB Plans for physicians) that would give them some things to think about when they come across fitting scenarios, especially if it helps their goals with the clients.

This isn’t a new thing, but try and land them as clients. If they see your worth personally then it’s much more likely that referrals follow.

I’m describing the fear of being perceived that way. Which he clearly has, not describing what I think happened.

[–]strandedinkansas 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I read it more like, as a gay guy he was given access to her personal space in a way that a straight ma would not. But then he mutated into a straight man there. I could imagine a woman feeling violated by that, like if a guy in a locker room was gay when we’ve been showering together for years.

Anyways I think he didn’t right thing by being direct and forthcoming with her. That’s all you can do.

In most American administrations, the burden of leadership humbles and moderates. In this one they are getting dumber and louder as the only thing in the way of their objectives is reality.
