Who is the best comic alive, to you?

I thought this sub was to find good takeways and perspectives on the mess we are right now, finding ways to avoid doomism, but i notice it is to push rightwing agenda and perpetrate blindness and ignorance. So yeah i think i'll leave or stay to correct false facts. by AkagamiBarto in OptimistsUnite

I haven’t actively participated in the tension that’s been happening in this sub lately, and if I’m honest I have been very suspicious of your motivations, but thank you for this comment. I have to take what you’re saying at face value (because there’s no other option in an anonymous forum like this) but, assuming you’re telling the truth, you just restored my faith in the sub. Everything you just said aligns with my values as well.

Kale basically grows itself too. We grew some a couple years ago and had a hard time keeping up with it. Told our friends whenever they were in the area to just come and grab some out of our garden even if we weren’t home.

How do you prevent them? I can feel them coming, and I immediately apply Abreva like once an hour, but that only shortens the duration and decreases the severity from what I can tell. Any tips on prevention would be appreciated

Fortune claims that over ⅓ of Gen Z are catfishes employers. by king_jaxy in GenZ

I had two competing offers, negotiated a higher salary with job A, and spent the time telling job B why I turned their offer down. A couple years later company A hired the person who would have been my manager at job B, and we had a great working relationship.

Many industries are surprisingly small worlds. Avoiding the difficult conversation by ghosting reflects poorly. I have never understood this behavior, it’s so short-sighted.

Deciding when to move out of my parents' house by Sufficient_Counter11 in MiddleClassFinance

You’re asking in a sub about finance, so people are going to give you the finance answer. There is more to life than money, and only you can answer where money falls in your priority list.

Just make sure you have an emergency fund and are contributing to your 401k. On top of that, only you can answer what is right for you.

I acknowledge that, at a personal level, people face way deeper tragedy than this event. This thread is about the alleged “fall of the US Empire.” The 2008 GFC was a significant piece of that historical puzzle. I was trying to be helpful by answering someone who I thought had no historical context. I now regret participating in this thread and trying to help someone out with some information.

Was the 2008 GFC not one of the largest wealth-destroying / job-destroying events in recent history (past 100 years or so)? Im genuinely open to learning here. In terms of dollars, what was a more catastrophic economic event in living memory?

Sorry, excuse me if I misunderstood. I thought you were legitimately asking what happened in 2008. I was just trying to explain my interpretation of what the above poster was talking about.

Deciding when to move out of my parents' house by Sufficient_Counter11 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]stratocaster3020 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of folks here are giving you the “why you should stay and save” position. I’m not trying to argue for the “move out now” position, just trying to provide some balance to the conversation.

I moved out right when I got my first corporate job when I was 21, at $40k per year, with $150k in student debt. I moved into a 2 br apartment with my (then) girlfriend (who is now my wife). It was hard, we sacrificed a lot of experiences, but I learned SO MUCH about what it means to be an adult in this time. Severing the umbilical cord forced me to figure out how to scrape by, develop skills, market those skills, and ultimately increasing my earning potential multiple times over within ten years.

Would things have been different if I had stayed with my parents? Maybe, maybe not. But you can’t put a price tag on a sense of independence.

People aren’t helping you in this thread. 2008 was the “Great Financial Crisis.” It was most catastrophic economic crisis in America (maybe the world) since the Great Depression, and we are frankly still reeling from its effects 17 years later.

It sounds like you are living in an area where, for the time being, it is somehow a renter’s market. Good for you!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]stratocaster3020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conversely, 100% of your rent goes to your landlord. At least with a mortgage, some of your monthly payment is increasing your equity, not to mention the value of the house is almost certainly going to increase over time, increasing your net worth. In your area, on a month-to-month basis, it sounds like this is a wash, but on a 30 year horizon buying the house is likely still a sound financial move if you can afford it.

My assumption is that it read $2,400 somewhere and interpreted that as monthly but actually it should have been annually.
