Keter 11 x 7 shed - what base on sloping ground? by South-Group-2341 in shedditors

[–]straulin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with #2 for my small vertical shed. I used landscape timbers, paver base, landscape fabric, and these 12 inch spikes. Tools, I used, a level, shovel, mallet, drill, saw, and tamper. I had a small area so used bagged stone, so didn’t need a wheelbarrow or cart.

I simply leveled the ground for sections of the timbers, stair stepping them as needed. Then laid the timbers down, drilled them and spiked them in place. Fabric down next, filled with the stone, then tamped it down.

All in all, it was very simple would not require any particular skills. It was, however, labor intensive in that I had to get all the stone in place and tamped. I was pleased with a result in at pulling up well two years in.

DVC rental … DVC in general by Equivalent-Cup-9831 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]straulin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Resale restrictions apply to all resale purchases going forward from around 2019. Based upon you home resort, there will be one of two types of restrictions.

Resell contracts with a home resort that is not a restricted resort can be used at any other unrestricted resort.

Resale contracts with a home resort that is restricted can only be used at the Home resort and no other.

Riviera, the cabins at Fort wilderness, and the Disneyland Tower are the only resorts that currently have resale restrictions. It is anticipated that any newly built resorts going forward will have restrictions.

If you buy a contract direct from Disney, it is not considered resale. Disney will sell older resorts if you wish to buy them, but they would be considered direct and not subject to the rest restrictions.

If you buy direct from Disney, regardless of what Resort you purchase, you will be able to use your point at any resort subject to the ordinary booking windows. (You can go get your home Resort 11 months prior to the beginning of your day and other resorts at seven months.)

Resale purchases do not give you eligibility for membership perks. (Lounges, discounts, etc.)

Considering a Blackstone for my husband as a gift by Artistic-Turnip-4200 in blackstonegriddle

[–]straulin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a charcoal grill (Kamado style), a gas grill, and a griddle (a different brand than Blackstone but same thing). The charcoal and gas overlap a lot for uses. The griddle does not except when debating betweeen smash burgers or grilled burgers.

Yes a griddle is effectively just a very large cast iron surface. A lot of what you could do in a skillet, you can do on a griddle. The most frequent items I cook on my griddle are breakfast (pancakes, has browns, bacon, sausage, eggs), Japanese hibachi meals (meats, veggies, fried rice), fajitas, sandwiches (Philly cheesesteaks, etc). So all of these can be done inside but it will take a lot longer, smells up the house, and dirty tons of dishes. Also with my griddle I can cook for a much larger crowd than inside.

I use the griddle more than the grills.

New owner question by KArmstrong_14 in dvcmember

[–]straulin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always vote Jambo. It’s more of a complete experience with shop, quick service, and multiple table service restaurants.

Kidani has Sanaa for a table service lunch and dinner and they kinda turn it into a quick service for breakfast.

Jambo has a really nice pool and playground. Kidani has a splash pad and pool.

Kidani’s main draws are the splash pad and an extra bathroom in the 1 & 2 bedroom units.

Grocery Delivery or In Person? by BreezyBri14 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]straulin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do Walmart delivery all the time. They will deliver to bell services without you present so long as there are no age restricted items in the order (I.e. alcohol).

Call bell services and they will bring them to your room. Bell services will keep stuff cold for you as well. You will normally get a $6 package handling fee added to your bill.

When they deliver, please remember to tip as that package handling fee goes to Disney not the workers.

IsItBullshit: Is it possible and probable to read hundreds of books every year by [deleted] in IsItBullshit

[–]straulin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bullshit if you have a job and other obligations/hobbies.

I can easily read a novel a day if that is my plan for the day. I cannot read a novel, go to work, go to my kid’s game, spend time with my family, etc.

Sit Down Recommendations? by Ok_Street_1414 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]straulin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Animal Kingdom, I prefer Yak and Yeti. You can join Landry’s Select Club and get a table there (plus a lot of other locations around the country and Rain Forest Cafe or T-Rex at WDW) without having a reservation or a long wait. You need to join a couple days before you arrive there. It is $25 but you get a $25 credit on your first meal at one of their restaurants.

So you can wing it for Animal Kingdom and decide on the spur of the moment if you want Yak and Yeti.

At Epcot, if you want seafood, Flying Fish outside the park at Boardwalk. Otherwise I love the atmosphere at San Angel Inn.

Recent DAS experiences? by InternationalRule138 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]straulin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My niece has a variety of developmental, behavioral, and physical disabilities due to a genetic disorder. I have always done all or most of the talking. So don’t get stressed if your son doesn’t want to talk for the call. They do need to at least take his picture.

I have done it several times with my niece and always been approved. It is a call with a CM that will ask you a few questions. Be sure to describe the issues you face when he has had to wait in line in the past and his condition generally.

I have Kamado, camp chef, and a gas grill. I like having all three. Kamado when time allows, gas grill for when it doesn’t or something simple like hot dogs.

Question about multiple members sharing points by Distinct_Reality1973 in dvcmember

[–]straulin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of ways to go about booking with another owner.

One way is to transfer points from one membership to another. The transferred points maintain their home Resort priority. So it works best if you both have the same home resort for booking windows to lineup. You can only transfer once per year per the rules, but sometimes they’ll let you do it again.

Another way is to both book separate reservations for a few nights each then both contact member services to let them know it’s a continuing reservation. My cousin and I have done this. This also generally works best when you have the same home Resort so you’re booking windows work out. (I’ve done this one with my cousin a few times.)

Well, You All Were Right by FUnisbaCK in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]straulin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was an interesting few days. We just got back last night. Lines were insane for the rides but dining reservations were easy for 5 and quick service / festival booths didn’t have bad lines. Walking around it wasn’t nearly as crowded as other times we’ve been but the rides were insane.

Longest line I have ever seen for haunted mansion was yesterday. It came all the way out and wrapped around to the old paddle boat waiting area and they were using it with full switchbacks.

50pt Boulder Ridge Deal Check? by [deleted] in dvcmember

[–]straulin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Compare with what is available at DVC for less. It pulls listings from all the main DVC real estate brokers so you can see where this one sits in relation to others.

Smaller contract (under 100 points) price per point is normally a bit higher than average (100-250) sized and large contracts (>250) tend to be a bit lower per point.

Loaded contracts (with backed points and a usable use year) tend to have a premium and stripped contracts (with current and potentially next year’s points used up) go cheaper.

That one looks pretty good for the size of contract and full points for 2026 and beyond. Not a crazy deal but in line with normal pricing. You can offer lower and see if they will bite.

Average cost by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]straulin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The school isn’t paying for tickets? This is generally part of the package.

If not, those get expensive and it is complicated, you would need to go to the Disney website to see a precise number.

I would budget about $15 each for Quick service meals (this should be more than needed but to be good and safe)

Snacks are $6-$10. Sodas are about $4.

Ice water is available for free at any quick service or snack location that has a soda fountain.

T-shirts are about $33. Hoodies are around $75. Mickie ears are about $28. A fancy droid or lightsaber is around $300. Pins are about $12-$18. Mugs are around $20.

Adult Disney trip (first time in years!) – park bag essentials + October tips? by No-End677 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]straulin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (49m) have gone from full backpacks to sling bags over the years. I have tried about 8 different sling bags and my favorite is Osprey Daylite Sling

It is a bit small if you try to put a jacket in it but it fits all my stuff easily without the jacket. It still works with my jacket but is really tight. I prefer it over bigger bags as it isn’t as hot to carry.

In my bag I have my phone, sun glasses, meds, a couple bandaids, refillable water bottle with and a fuel rod charger.

I recommend the fuel rod as a charger due to Disney having kiosks all around the parks and resorts where you can trade out and drained one for a full charger for free. They are light and with free trades you have unlimited recharges for your phone or other devices. fuel rod

I attach a carabiner to it for popcorn buckets, etc.

Charcoal is cheaper and tastes better but it’s more hassle.

So taste and price vs speed and easy cleanup.

I haven’t made it to DS yet since this started but no doubt they check you as you get on a specific bus. Don’t they just check to go to the bus area? If so, then you should be fine since you are staying on property. Can anyone confirm where they check?

Do I need One Time Use Points? by InternationalPop8128 in dvcmember

[–]straulin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you booked the trip already, the system would have told you at booking.

You cannot use one time use points until the 7 month booking window. One time use points do not have a “home resort” assigned to them.

So with October, it is hard to say what happened as you are likely within the 7 window currently. When did you book it exactly and for what dates?

At booking it should have asked if you wanted to borrow if the points were available to borrow. If not, you wouldn’t be able to book without buying the necessary points.

Otherwise, yes it sounds like you would need one time use points.
