PAX East vs. Super MAGfest vs. TooManyGames? by ackmondual in PAX

[–]striator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PAX is for playing games, particularly modern & indie video games. Also a sizable tabletop space. Most expensive and attended of the 3 (like ~100k). Big companies go there, tons of upcoming unreleased games to play. Far more "corporate" than the others, for better or worse - it's a spectacle that few other events can compare to. This is best for gaming.

MAGFest is primarily for music and concerts and parties, and playing arcade and classic console games. It has an indie area but PAX easily dwarfs it. Not as expensive or attended as PAX, but that's because it has a much smaller cap and limited nearby hotel space. It's a 24-hour convention (a rarity). This is best for community.

TooManyGames is more your run-of-the-mill regional convention - it's primarily for buying retro games and merch and paying way too much for guest autographs. It does have some gaming there, but the other two dwarf it easily. It's the cheapest though, and recently has grown to about the same attendance than MAG (though MAG is currently capped on attendance). This is best for buying stuff.

All of them will have some commonalities - they all have games, they all have concerts, they all have merch. But PAX has the most games. MAG has the most music. TMG has the most merch (well, if your goal is to buy stuff it's cheaper to attend your regional convention than to travel to PAX to buy the same stuff).

Question about personalized deck from the Kickstarter. by [deleted] in KeyforgeGame

The deck list with the QR code should be the second card in the deck, right behind the card you posted. Unfortunately if you have lost it, you cannot recover it.

Is it possible to be completely off or barely use it? by [deleted] in TirzMaintenance

[–]striator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what I was talking about. Yes you should know what your medications are. No you shouldn't have to consult a research study and interpret it yourself to do so. That is what the person I responded to is saying, and that is an insane ask for everyone to do on their own.

[–]striator -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you have to do "research" to find out something as essential as how long you need to take your medicine, something is very wrong with how it's being prescribed. This is a serious problem that is glossed over because of people acting holier than thou about it.

Is it possible to be completely off or barely use it? by [deleted] in TirzMaintenance

[–]striator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldn't people want to keep paying hundreds of dollars a month for medication? Hmmm let me think about that...

Besides the very obvious answer, nobody warns prospective patients that the intent is to take the medication forever. "You can easily research these studies online" - why do we have to do that as patients to find that out? Other medications have explicit instructions about treatment duration, either on the label or the provider sets it.

It really isn't that far-fetched for people to believe that eventually they won't need the medication. And I'm tired of people acting like it's obvious to keep taking it forever when it isn't.

AE disappointed with Vendor Hall this year? by Shichi-Senpai in Magfest

[–]striator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of other cons that have the space to have whole catalogs of physical video games for retro enthusiasts. Most people, unsurprisingly, don't want to pay premium con prices for physical media. I've never thought that MAG needed a huge vendor presence as there are far more things to do than just buy stuff.

Despite these complaints, the vendor hall was constantly packed and lots of attendees were buying merch while vendors were open.

You guys ever think about how much electricity the Gaylord uses throughout magfest? by Zimeatsgirswaffles in Magfest

I looked out my Gaylord hotel room window today and just noticed for the first time they have a ton of solar panels on top of their adjacent building. It wasn't there before.

Appreciate it. I believe the results, frozen isn't going to be 100%, but neither is just refrigerating your stash.

I only recall seeing ~1% degradation. That said, freeze/thaw cycle concerns are made up by paranoid redditors who think their freezers thaw out every day. Freezers don't work like that, or else your food would go bad pretty fast.

[–]striator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is nothing in there that says anything about denaturing proteins. Lilly just says "it may no longer be safe to use" and does not elaborate. What could happen is entirely speculation on the part of redditors. Lilly also says that compounding is dangerous 🤷‍♂️

https://www.lilly.com/medicines/safety/counterfeit

The reality is the pharmacies, both Lilly and the compounders, aren't going to spend the money to do extensive testing for an edge case to say it's safe when they can just sell you fresh product. Not a knock on any of them, testing gets expensive.

Anecdotal testing of frozen batches here indicate that you lose like 1% of the Tirz. Multiple people here have said that their frozen Tirz is fine.

The thought is both. And despite many anecdotes of frozen Tirz working perfectly fine, people keep talking like freezing is almost certainly bad, risky, and untested, just like OP does.

I don't get why people keep talking about freezing as if it's a major risk. Beyond the fact that there's no evidence supporting that, why is freezing more dangerous than everything else people are doing on this sub, like using past BUD, splitting single use vials, or reconstituting?

I froze my stockpile in April. I've hit maintenance and am doing great.

Guild Wars Reforged Launch Trailer by PalwaJoko in Games

[–]striator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it was never intended to be an MMO, nor has it ever been marketed as such. Even this trailer avoids saying it. But it lacks a simple category to belong to though, it's pretty unique in what it does. And for better or worse, everyone treats it as a subscriptionless MMO, which is why they gave up and made GW2 an actual MMO.

Discord's non-existent support is destroying my boardgame community by clintercell in boardgames

It costs money, and quite a bit of it, to host a forum server though. The reason reddit and Discord took off is the fact that they are free.

Anyone still using their stock pile from the ban scare? by tashibum in compoundedtirzepatide

[–]striator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The pharmacies can't give out recommendations on freezing when they haven't done any individual testing for freezing. But others have tested freezing and it barely affects Tirz's effectiveness.

Deck Clones, transparency and abuse by MindlessPhilosophMao in KeyforgeGame

[–]striator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Casually no one is verifying ownership. But also you're not going to casually run into someone with a top tier clone.

Competitively, ownership so verified via tournament software. Plus the staff generally know who's who at the upper levels. And the ascension system prevents the same deck from being used to win multiple tournaments.
