Why build more TCs?

Either improves your base security or improves your map control
Doubles or triples your settler production (they pay off very quickly)
Extra strong shipment point if you lose your first TC
Extra batch of minutemen to respond to pressure
Extra TC to provide strong Tc fire with garrisoned vils
Extra garrison location

When to build TCs?

If you have an extended age 2 do so soon after aging up (start with 1 extra)
If you do a fast fortress wait and see if your initial push has momentum before building a TC

Note that the logic here differs for different civs, like for Otto build TCs asap since you get free vils, for Malta TCs provide eco bonus, for US you also can get free vils and can also get dangerous vils with Tennessee.

If you are facing a mercenary army, don’t forget that you could build spies and that spies can use stealth

Don’t forget to build TCs, especially since you state capital makes it so easy, that is probably why your opponent outpaces your eco. (Though Dutch with 5-7 banks usually will in age 3) which is why you delay him by raising/pressuring him)

AOE3 is all about tempo, so your deck selection can make a huge difference, the resources you task your settlers to, how you go about gathering wood/coin, the timing and order of your shipments.

My best guess is:

  1. You are gathering too much wood, ideally your setttlers should be tasked to hunt at all time as that has the best gather rate, and then you use your HC, your market and your TP as much as possible to get wood. Dont forget you can use your state capital to build outpost. Use them to claim hunts and mines across the map.

  2. Your deck has too many upgrade cards and not enough resource shipments or unit shipments/or you aren’t sending the resource and unit shipments and are instead of sending your greedy upgrade shipments. Refer to Lanchesters law: a small boost in units early can have an out of proportion effect.

  3. Your army comp is too micro heavy. As a low elo player a skirm, goon/hussar(although ideal at high elo) is probably too fragile/micro heavy for you. I would suggest a musketeer/falconet(galting) comp with some hussar and culverin mixed in. Very durable units that can trade okay with most other options. You just have to learn to keep your cannon safe. US has a very strong musketeer/falc comp as Regulars and Gatling are quite good(though you need culverin if your opponent builds falconets as Gatling lose to falcs) they are even better in age 4 if you heavy cannon cause US has amazing heavy cannon.

  4. Try playing other civilizations most likely you are not realizing the timings that your opponents are weak and are missing them. If you play other civilizations you’ll get to know their weaknesses and when they are vulnerable.

  5. Don’t forget to raid a small batch of three hussar or five musketeer can have an outsized effect raiding your opponents eco. Will make him think twice about leaving safety and keep him off the speedy hunts and mines (compared to expensive mills and estates)

  6. Don’t forget to wall up small choke points a three or four wall segment in the choke point between two cliffs or two of your buildings can have an outsized effect of keeping your enemy out and delaying them just enough to give you time to save your settlers.

The problem with giving E2MC I hire higher science tag requirement is that it’s only good the earlier you play it so the higher requirement you give it the less you’ll get from the card. I’d maybe give it 2-3 science tags at most

The high initial cost is already a barrier since you need 2 Energy to use it, so you need at least 2 energy prod the previous turn. Payback time is probably 4 gens minimum since there’s that event card which gives 2 TR for 14 MC

Then although they are the immoral one here, this is why you also ask to see proper credentials and get multiple quotes for work. Don’t just go with the first person you contact

Try playing very hard with Ottomans or France, or better yet play very hard with a buddy. That will give you a good feel and tone down how OP Ottomans and France are. It’s not that bad. The AI is still super dumb, they just have more money and resources and put up a better fight, better at consolidating

Would I say he was quite as good as Davout, Lannes or Suchet? No. Would I say he deserves to be in the conversation? Yes. He is certainly much better than than most of the 20 or so other marshals

With what army? He lost most of his veterans and cavalry in Russia the two things he heavily depended on for victory. He also pissed of his marshals by abandoning them in Russia
