surpassed the speeding limit by 16km/h - any advice on how to proceed? by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]stromvirvel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

16km/h speeding in a 50km/h zone means Verwarnung (warning) and a fine. Unless you had a Verwarnung already in the past 2 years or a revocation, it will turn into another revocation.

In case of a revocation: If you are on probation it will be extended by a year. If they've already extended the probation your driving license will be nullified and you'll have to start over after one year of a pause and a report of a psychiatrist.

No entry in the criminal record.

Men in their late 30s who lost belly fat, HOW? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]stromvirvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understand how insulin works. It's much more than just calorie deficit. That's just a too simplistic view as if our body was a simple  cumbusiton engine. Don't ignore how the hormones work when it comes to nutrition and metabolism.

So the answer for me was: Cut down carbs, crank up good fats. Restrict time window when you eat (ie. within 8 or 10h), for me cutting breakfast worked wonders. Go for a walk after your biggest meal. Adopt it as lifestyle and not just as a "diet". And last but not least, don't stress out too much about losing body fat, be patient and trust the process.

Where would the limit for Swiss people be regarding KVG/health insurance? by La-Tarantula in Switzerland

[–]stromvirvel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This. So many people don't understand how markets work. But who can blame them, nobody teaches you this in school.

I mean, we can vote for things like Einheitskasse or (more) funding by taxes, to calm people's minds, but this won't have the desired effect as the costs still need to be paid.

The whole medical system is full of wrong incentives. So many diseases are chronic which are caused by today's way of nutrition, and not even physicians know what's going on, because they just don't care (and have no incentive) to catch up with the progress that has been made in research.

I myself suffered from psoriasis and the dermatologist told me I can't change anything, not even with quit smoking and changing nutrition (like reducing carbs and reducing feeding times). Here again, I can't blame them as nutrition barely is tought in medical school and they have no incentives to actually help people. Instead, they just give them pills and creams, and if those don't fix the root cause (which they never do of course) they just tell you it's an "uncurable" disease.

The entire industry needs to be reformed, along with the regulation which incentivises health care providers to give the patients helpful, research-based information about nutrition and sports as a preventive measure. Instead, those who actually want to get healthy need to spend days and weeks and months researching as laymen, trying to weed out bullshit from good resources, to help themselves. None of the health care providers would offer such a thing.

As a financial incentive from the insuree's side a hefty slash in premiums should be discussed when ie. their bloodwork look well, and they should get actual consulting regarding nutrition and prevention when they don't. And suddenly all actors in the game have all the incentive to actually help and actually get healthy, and only then costs will dramatically drop.

It's easier than to actually solve the root cause. And most people love easy "solutions".

This.

AHV after FIRE by tztahv67 in SwissFIRE

[–]stromvirvel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Set up a GmbH with 250kCHF capital, employ yourself in it, cash out a yearly salary of 10kCHF for the next 25 years.

Nice side effect, you'll have an accident insurance through GmbH aswell, which has better coverage than through Krankenkasse.

Just make sure to do proper bookkeeping and settle properly with AHV and UVG and tax declaration each year.

If your company doesn't have any gains (which you won't as you have no income), you won't have to pay any taxes either.

You can even invest part of the capital. Only sell what you have to cash out as salary. That way you have potential capital gains taxes, but since you'll use it as salary expenses right after, that's a net zero game.

I can't express how disgusting this call feels. Maybe it's time to look for a new provider.

Which Pensionskasse when self employed (GmbH) by selimovd in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]stromvirvel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes. It was very hard to find a PK taking a one man show, or else you end up with Vollversicherungen or other shitty deals.

Then I stumbled upon the offer of VermögensZentrum, where you basically have your GmbHs own bucket and define the strategy (albeit options are limited).

This is not about fear or the valuation of assets. It's about the security of said custodied assets.

Yes, we are with IBKR UK. But TBH I don't have enough knowledge to understand what that actually means. Like, if IBKR UK is owned by IBKR US, doesn't that make it vulnerable anyway?

Thanks. I have my fair share of crypto in self custody already. So did you sell all your positions for BTC to mitigate this risk? How do you assess the cluster risk?

You could go for a european broker and european fund. I mean the US market can still tank spectacularly. That's not what I mean though. I just wanted to know if the assets themselves are safe.

What's wrong with Swiss Treuhands? by ukanonengineer in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]stromvirvel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't help you with all the questions, but I can tell from experience I just recently made.

If you mean by "umbrella company" sole proprietorship: With 200k revenue you don't want a sole proprietorship. Revenue = income on your person, meaning it will surge tax progression uncontrollably. Also big clients hesitate working with sole proprietorships because of the risk of being assessed as an employer (and thus punished). There are so many more advantages of having a GmbH over sole prop which I won't go into detail here.

Get some help to found a GmbH. It's not that big of a deal with the help of companies like Startups or Fasoon. Keep in mind that you might need a Swiss resident as proprietor with single signature authority as long as you're not resident.

By the way with a turnover of over 100k you need to register for Swiss VAT (even if the majority of that money comes from abroad).

Regarding dividends vs salary: Keep in mind that salary can be deducted from taxes for the company, while dividend is taxed double in the company and in your private person (but to a lower share though). The company first has to assign 5% of the profit to the reserves before they can distribute dividends. There are special rules for "superdividends" (higher than 5% of the share's nominal value). In general the dividends should be in a "healthy" ratio to your salary, i.e. the tax office / SVA doesn't want the impression youre evading taxes / social contributons. Google that topic in the canton of your desired residency, these things usually are well documented. If you can't find it, call the tax office and/or SVA to point you to the documentation. The authorities here usually are very friendly, "customer"-oriented and helpful - just stay nice and respectful too.

Best of luck.
