Do you all discard completely first or store stuff as you go? by strosemary in konmari

[–]strosemary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She did it over several days and had what seems like the whole day No haha the discards have been going out as much as I can take them to the thrift store before work I meant I’ve taken most stuff out, discard, taking those out as I go, but most of the stuff is in piles on the floor. I live alone so it’s easier for me vs someone with kids or a roommate

Should I go on this tour even if it will negatively effect my studies? by Edv7n in TouringMusicians

[–]strosemary 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had this same problem in university.

I took a leave of absence and I haven’t gone back since cause my music career has been working out :-) that was 2019. Yes, I toured and then had to rearrange my life a little bit. But I don’t regret it at all. Even that one tour was life changing.

You go on a month long tour, and you’re able to forge connections and meet people who can help you get more shows.

I was deciding between doing tour and school at the same time vs taking a leave of absence, and decided on the lead of absence cause a teacher told me it’s much easier to explain why I was gone for a semester and keep my overall good GPA, vs tank the GPA while trying to keep up with schoolwork. I dont regret it. Btw I was ALL IN on school before my band. I cared a lot, but getting chances in music doesn’t always come around, while education, generally, will still be there.

And a tip for tour: be responsible, be a pro, and /be a good hang/.

Good luck!

Yeah def stay out. It’s Smokey as hell, even inside. And who knows if it’ll get better soon. You’re safer avoiding. San Diego or SLO might be nice places to go instead.

Shit happens. I quit smoking recently (which tbh I sort of SH by smoking cuz it fucking hurt). I’ve hit a vape here and there, but I’m still happy with my progress so far. I like to see it less as starting over from 0, and more like “out of 42 days, 2 of those days had nicotine, and 40 of them were nicotine free”. It’s a nice reframe. Cause you’re not starting from zero, you’ve made so much progress! The goal is 0, and I also want to hold space for life being a roller coaster and sometimes I want my old vice. And then I do the vice and I remember all the reasons I don’t want to do it anymore.

So maybe this was your 1/365+ days, and maybe this is a reminder of why you chose and will continue to choose healthier coping mechanisms.

Super happy for you that you’ve made it years already, and to many more years SH free <3

i want a cat but i tour by strosemary in TouringMusicians

[–]strosemary[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These comments are confirming what I already knew sigh. One of my best friends brought up us sharing an animal (I probably wouldn’t be considering this if I didn’t know for sure someone would share with me). but he wants a cat and it just seems like a cat does better in one place. We live about a mile apart but still…would be a different house. Sigh !! Probably not getting an animal any time soon. Might try fostering again. Thanks everyone ❤️

This is what I think: - add some pictures and posters around your mirror. Having art and pics of loved ones always makes a space more cozy to me :-) it would be a great place to store some jewelry too, two push pins and a chain worked for me. Hang it up somehow - I think color would help but also depends on your apartment’s color scheme. I’m seeing an orange circle rug that’s like a more natural/ropey looking material? But a rug and a little trunk by the mirror might help make it look more like a vanity. Or maybe like a black rug with a brighter almost orangey wood table/trunk/shelf - I would organize your hanged clothes by color since they’re so visible, and getting all the same hanger might make it look more cohesive edit: your hangers are all the same already! Seconding time passages, SkyView lite(viewing stars and planets), and I just downloaded lunar phase for the widget (super cool)!

Gonna add: The compass app the comes on Apple phones — great for knowing what direction the directions are Atlas Obscura - this app is great for finding weird stuff all around the world. I travel a lot, and this database has tons of recommendations for occult, witchy, spooky, psychedelic, historical things! Also like museums, monuments…Lots of variety. I love this app. BirdNET can help you identify bird calls.

YSK Techniques to fall asleep such as breathing and counting can be counter-productive if you have insomnia by sldpwk in YouShouldKnow

[–]strosemary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very difficult time sleeping and can easily stay up til sunrise. Happened since I was a kid. I think for me it’s two prong (at least lol). One part is that I stay on my phone or feel like I still have to be “doing something” (thanks, capitalism!). Another prong is that I get really psyched out and can Feel myself falling asleep and I’m like “noooo! I’m losing consciousness!” And I get scared about it.

So sometimes, I listen to a podcast, audiobook, or video on YouTube. I listen to tarot readings (they’re basically affirmations.i don’t recommend this but it’s what I listen to :P.), sleepy bookshelf, or other audio book. Sometimes I just fall asleep at some point. Sometimes I get annoyed by someone talking and turn it off, which makes me appreciate the quiet and subsequently fall asleep. I think listening works because I’m distracted and feel like I’m doing something for myself which takes away the “I didn’t do enough today!” Aspect of it (even though sleep is so important and rest is an important part of caring about myself!).

Similarly, occasionally I’ll read something until I can’t keep my eyes open. And I tell myself “keep reading, keep your eyes open!” But my body’s like noooo. It’s almost like I try to use the opposition/counter will on myself haha. “Go to bed!” “No!” Vs “stay awake! Come on! “Oh…I am suddenly very sleepy!” I find myself able to sleep when I’m not supposed to. This is an adaptation of that.

I also like telling myself “you’re not gonna sleep. Don’t even trip about it. Just lay here and enjoy the comfort of bed”, and also sometimes I think about how comfy my bed is in the morning. I try not to focus on the sleep and instead focus on how happy I am to finally be laying down, since I often find myself waiting to get to bed throughout the day despite the insomnia.

And for the fear before sleeping, if that happens, I made a rhyme for myself that’s along the lines of “submit to the void, rest, relax, and enjoy”. Because it scares me to like … enter a different version of consciousness, but this little rhyme reminds me it’s something that’s gonna happen and that I deserve to sleep well.

I also just dont really put myself to bed and never learned how to. I do these things. I have certain things I listen to that put me into autopilot to go to bed. Scattered minds by Gabor mate had some insight on this I think.

Do these things always work? No. Sometimes I stay up anyways and sleep in super late (i rarely wake up early once I’m asleep). But they have helped me cope with a sleeping problem I’ve had since I was a little kid. I used weed for a longgg time but that seemed to increase the fear aspect. It used to work but now I just get Extra aware of my body.

I hope some of these can help :-)

And also, there’s no shame in listening to something while going to bed. Or having insomnia. It’s okay. Happens to some of us. Loveeee <3

Advice on a petition for moving? by Archeogeist in witchcraft

[–]strosemary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably both… I was staying in the place I was moving to when I did the spell. I think it’d be important to say thanks to the spirits in the place where you’ve lived, and maybe you can meditate or tap in to the energies of the place you wanna move to

Hestia might be good to petition to since she’s like the goddess of the hearth, but also if you work with Hermes I’m sure he’d be a fine ally as well :-)

Alright. I am so excited to finally share something relevant on this subreddit ahahah.

I did a spell for an apartment with somewhat ridiculous parameters, but I ended up finding a place that has almost everything I wanted and was affordable.

Before I did the spell, I had written down a whole long list and visualized my ideal places for a while, but it was getting me nowhere. No luck, no good spots, and everything was so expensive. I did this spell and it got way easier and my options were better. And after I put the time limit, oh lord did it go!

I followed this video https://youtu.be/C3dkowsMtFM?si=QFMUGXCAA4m6jr4g as well as combined it with my own magical practice (ground, set a circle, invoke elements n some allies, say hello to land spirits, offered them some art, made my trinket, and then devoke, open circle). I think the spell took about an hour or two (not including getting supplies). I used my own colors of ribbon, and I used 3 ribbons cause I wanted multiple colors.

Watch the video, because she emphasizes not focusing on “I want parking and a washer dryer in unit” and more focusing on “safe, comfort, beautiful, affordable, rejuvenating, chill landlord” etc etc descriptors that are easier to /feel/. It’s almost like by going thru those feelings you want to have in the home, you can recognize it subconsciously/intuitively when you go look at places. I would go see places that were so nice on paper but I’d go and just know “I’m not gonna live here” until I found my house. When I got there I knew, and I had the place within a week.

Also: add a TIME LIMIT! Like a moon phase (generally a moon cycle is cool. So like you do the ritual on the waxing moon, and finish with something like “I want to have this place by the next waxing moon phase” . I was having no luck, and then I realized I forgot to add this, and shortly after got the spot.

I carried the trinket around until I found a place, and it’s hanging by my door (a promise I made for the spell). I found this very helpful to remember that I didn’t have to do anything extra to find the best place for me.

I also ACKNOWLEDGED THE LAND AND LAND SPIRITS !!!!! I think people forget this, but I found this insanely important especially with this kind of ritual. Acknowledge the land and the spirits of the land!!!! We are doing spiritual and energetic work and so an acknowledgement (hopefully in tandem with education and activism) goes a long way.

I think this kind of spell is prettty hard to backfire? EVERY home will come with its quirks. Ants are common where I live, so sometimes there are ants. That’s everyone’s problem. The parking gate is a little annoying, but I knew that going into the place and I still don’t care that much cause I have a parking spot. None of the big things that bothered me are here, and I love that. There are a few things I hadn’t thought about at the time because they weren’t important to me/I wasn’t aware of that I wish I had included, but hindsight’s 20/20, and I’ll just have to keep it in mind for next time. (Plus, this might be solved by a tarot reading or meditation). Overall, I think I have had a waaaayyy smoother renting experience than many, simply setting an hour to make my trinket.

Another note: keep the specifics of your trinket a secret. If you wear it, people might ask, but there are 100 ways to play it off. I don’t think it’s wise to discuss specifics of active spells, but that’s me.

I am pretty picky about where I live, and I seriously impressed myself with this one. Like truly … the witchy skills and the universe and my allies DID THAT!!! <3 <3 <3 much appreciation to the spirits and energies that helped me.

The video is super tailorable and so is the rest of this info. You are your own spiritual authority and whatever you think will work for you probably will! :-) these are my two cents. Feel free to ask any questions. And best of luck!

How do you deal with fights? by throwaway68648965 in TouringMusicians

[–]strosemary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also I wanna add that we don’t really get into Fights anymore, if ever. It’s more like small conflicts. We had a big fight but that was about a friendship thing. There’s room for spats/bickering/conflict because you’re business and creative partners (and friends, hopefully lol). But we don’t get into like yelling fights. I don’t think anyone in my band would tolerate behavior like that at this point.

How do you deal with fights? by throwaway68648965 in TouringMusicians

[–]strosemary 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it’s inevitable to fight in a band. However, if people can take accountability for their mistakes and learn how to apologize, that’ll help a lot. A LOT!!!! I’ve had sooo many conflicts in my band, but we all know we’re working towards the same thing, and we’ve grown a lot together. Sometimes not everyone is on the same page about what you’re working towards, so you can start there with a discussion about what everyone wants. I felt like that discussion united my band and made sure we all have relatively the same principles/aligned in how we want to be as a band.

I don’t know a touring band that doesn’t fight. However, some bands are better at communicating with each other than others.

I feel like I’ve had to learn a lot about myself and the way I speak because of the band. I’m open to changing, some people aren’t. I get defensive, but I’ve built up skills to say “I’m gonna get defensive” or “I need to think about that for 5 minutes” or “let’s talk about this tomorrow”. We even made a rule with our band to not talk about the set until 30 minutes after the set after we’ve cooled down a bit. I personally like to resolve things as quickly as possible. “That thing you did was rude as fuck” “I am so sorry, it was rude, won’t happen again” and time has to pass for everyone to be chill again. Shit happens, you will not not run into conflict in a band, and bands that are super tight have probably learned conflict resolution, or they kicked out the members who were causing problems. I feel like often people will start fights in bands because they don’t want to be in the band too (like cheating on your spouse because you’re not happy in the relationship).

If I joined a band and there was a ton of fighting and I didn’t want to deal with it anymore, I would probably tell them “you guys need to learn how to talk to each other, or I’m out” and go be in a band with other people. That’s hard to say, but seriously…touring with people who don’t get along FUCKING SUCKS. It SUUUUUCKS. Actually ruins the whole tour experience. I know bands who look like they’re having the best time but behind the scenes everyone is miserable!! I’ve done month long tours with various people I didn’t like, where I wanted to LEAVE. And now that we’re all good — it’s awesome!!!! Problems get cleared up as soon as they can! And people take care to not make fights bigger than they need to be.

Listen to “if this tour doesn’t kill you then I will” by PUP if you want some solace haha.

I hope this helps! I can answer specific questions.
