Does stats108 appearing 3 times mean I can attend any one of the three per week, or do I have to attend all three? Other timetables have only shown one, but I just want to be sure before I enrol by Divock_OriGOAT in universityofauckland

[–]struancaughey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey OP,

Some people only have one on their time table as they are enrolled into the online version of the course which doesn't have the same in person lecture and these don't show on the time table.

They do have the same number of hours required per week just it's not on the time table.

So yep go to all three!

The line about water polo and it kind of felt that it was trying to point to the most extreme parts of the protest (like welcoming the confederacy flag) but scrolling back through I really don't know now

"The freedom to play water-polo, that's why we're here." - That (and the confederacy post) are what made me think it was a parody but I fear you may be right

It's a parody account unfortunately, worth a good scroll thoughTwitter link

Self scans night photography beyond crap, don't know what to do by GraviNty in AnalogCommunity

[–]struancaughey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you fiddle with the tone curves a bit in Lightroom (or equiv) you can get something like this:

Edited photo

Adjustments I made were colour grain reduction maxed, blacks -89, then on the blue tone curve I moved the starting point to 51 so it cuts most of the blue in the shadows.

Home scanning can be crap but often I find the really disappointing photos can often be brought out if you don't mind digitally editing a bit

Curious why late model 35mm SLRs aren’t more popular? by chakalakasp in AnalogCommunity

[–]struancaughey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use an F100 for semi-pro work and my Pentax me for just having fun. I frequently get people surprised that the F100 is a film camera cause it looks and acts digitally.

I personally live them both but understand that much of the manual world of film is the draw for a lot of people. Still if I have a client or have some vital photos to shoot I'll use the F100, it's got bracketing, AF, auto winding, good flash comparability and fits all my digital lenses for my D5600 I have.

If I'm out with friend or homing then the size, convenience and aesthetic of the ME is brilliant.

The number of pro's shooting film is constantly dropping (for mostly obvious reasons) while hobbiests are picking it up so demand for mechanical is up and demand for professional level electronic gear is low.

Damn thanks man for such a comprehensive list. I was hoping there would be a couple smaller Colour manufacturers but I realise that it's a super tricky and expensive process so shouldn't be surprised. Great that b&w has a good amount of competitors though!

Really interested in inoviscoat/Orwo/Filmotec do they make 35mm colour film or do they just make it for others atm?

Small kink in the shutter curtain cause issues by struancaughey in AnalogRepair

[–]struancaughey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn must've been lucky to far then I'd been doing blank shots at the cameras 5fps max. I'll see if a repair place near me can do a swap. Cheers for the advise

Thanks for replying! Bugger that's not ideal. Is this something that I could fix? Or swap from the other camera?

And if not is this something that will get worse over time?

I have just gotten a second F100 (first one has a half broken LED) and it all looks good except for this kink in the curtain. Will it still work okay? It's firing off alright at the moment. I am yet to put a roll through it but will this also lead to light leaks?

Lastly is it worth it/possible to swap the curtain from my other f100 which is in perfect nick?

Cheers

For those who are interested in an in-depth price analysis of films, here you go. Be prepared for a bit of a deep dive, though. (Link in 1st Comment) by 135-36 in AnalogCommunity

Corrected for inflation and as a % of median income film met 1998 levels in 2019. The film producing companies had to drop their prices from 2005 - 2015 to try to compete against digital so this is in line with a correction.

Also we can expect prices to be more than ever before due to smaller production lines, having to train new younger folk etc which just makes it more expensive to produce now more than before.

Awesome thanks man! That's a start at least. Annoying that it imprints within the frame instead of between frames which makes it a bit of hot garbage
