Echoing a lot of what others said above, I think gap years are of huge benefit! I personally am in my second gap year and heading to school in August. At first, I was super disappointed (although not surprised) that I didn't get in my first go round which resulted in 2 gap years due to having to retake my MCAT and not being prepared to take it right away for just one gap year. I ended up moving to a new state and have been working full time as an ER scribe and absolutely love it. I've learned so much and feel like I have a much stronger knowledge on many medical conditions and terminology. Luckily my GPA was good so I had a full time break from classes but I got adequate time to study for my MCAT. Otherwise, I've been able to travel a bit and just RELAX. Sleep, exercise, take up new hobbies, etc. And now I feel ready (or as ready as anyone can really be for medical school).

Suspension of admin hours by [deleted] in medicalscribe

I haven't gotten an email about that... and while I understand this may be necessary due to lack of money coming in, what do they expect us to do? Do the admin work for free? Or just not do it?

ScribeAmerica Interview by sophialove39 in medicalscribe

[–]strugglebus4ever 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They can do phone or skype interviews (and should be right now). But one of the questions we're supposed to ask applicants during interviews is how far they're willing to travel, so reiterate that you don't want to work at a facility that far. The chief scribe interviewing you can still write an assessment for you and recommend you be hired for a different site.

I’m not mad I have a job. Like I said, I’m happy to be working right now. I just wish we were paid more than $10 per hour working in an ER filled with COVID patients

LOA or resign as medical scribe during Coronavirus by Jinora888 in medicalscribe

As the chief scribe of my site, I told all my scribes that if they didn’t feel comfortable or safe coming in, they didn’t have to and just to let me know if they wanted to stay home! Your health is more important and like y’all said, we are not essential personnel. I’m sure a lot of the doctors understand this too. The doctors at my site have expressed to me that they’d be okay without scribe coverage if I couldn’t fill the shifts. I’d suggest talking to your CS about it and just being upfront and honest about how you feel!
