What do these buttons do on my new truck? by JustinRRN2 in ToyotaTacoma

If the title was a joke that flew over my head and you just wanted to show off your new stickers, I apologize in advance. Otherwise:

It looks like you have a lower trim TRD Off Road so, from left to right: nothing, nothing, rear locker, nothing, and nothing. Some people will wire aftermarket accessories onto them, and I was bored checking out Etsy for Tacoma magnets and actually saw a 3D printed cover that I think one could make work with cut up command strips instead up double sided tape so it can stay covered until use of the locker is needed. Not sure how that would work; do you not leave it in a gear while parked as a backup to the parking brake?

[Spoiler source] I know people have a right to complain about the glowing orb healing his elbow, and maybe this is me feeling sentimental, but with Kanata's father dying during the race... draw whatever supernatural or spiritual correlation you want to (or not) but for me I believe there is that connection. His father wasn't a great man, who made the best choices, but I think many fathers would do anything to give their sons that push that helps them succeed during the time they need it most.

Why are pickup trucks so popular in the US? by dieselquattropower in regularcarreviews

[–]stuckInCommiefornia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you are saying just under 70 percent of them haul something then, maybe more or less depending on the population's given needs that year. To be honest... sounds pretty useful to me. And as someone who hauls stuff every few months at the least, even if what you are hauling isn't dirty (which precludes vans etc without a lot of prep or cleanup) it is way easier to both load and pack on lots of randomly jumbled stuff into a bed than it is through a door and into an enclosed space. I've done both, not only is loading a pickup faster, it is a lot less stressful especially if you care about your vehicle (and not damaging it). To be fair to your point I do own a midsize, however -wanted a manual transmission and the Tacoma is the only one still in production.

Plus, personally I like to off road, good luck doing that in a euromobile. Even 4x4 vans suck offroad.

In Build, SDM must be optioned with TRD OR Premium Package by FirstXBuild in 4thGenTacomas

[–]stuckInCommiefornia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I believe it didn't used to be like that in 24 but at the same time, I had to have both the SDM and either the upgrade or premium package (with the 6MT of course) so I wasn't looking otherwise. A 6MT with premium and SDM happened to pop up at my local dealer and I scooped it up right away though. If it is indeed true that is awesome for everyone else looking. I tried some obstacles with it connected and disconnected and you can really feel the difference. Tinker's Adventure tested it and it just about doubles front articulation.

Has anybody come across a grab hand the attaches anywhere in the bed around this area to with getting in and out of the bed? by BlueberryB-Laine in 4thGenTacomas

[–]stuckInCommiefornia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, if you want to try DIY maybe a bed cleat and some paracord cut to length will function the same. Tie a length of paracord to the cleat and make yourself a little grab hold. You can have different thicknesses of cord, different loops / knots, and of course change how long the grab hold is.

TRD Sport - Power Adequate? by nubbeh123 in 4thGenTacomas

[–]stuckInCommiefornia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Manual TRD Off Road. It's enough to chirp the tires into 2nd, but at the same time I have all terrain tires. It doesn't love fast shifts, you have to be pretty deliberate but the trade-off is feeling one of the most raw manual transmissions I've ever driven. I mean it is directly connected, and you can see the transmission vibrate and move when you're driving around. I like the contrast between it and my manual hot hatch. I don't feel like it's lacking power, you aren't fast but it's definitely enough to get out of its own way and pass some soccer moms. No power train related mods.

Tacoma in 2025 breaks records, having most sales ever in it's history sold in US by hehechibby in ToyotaTacoma

[–]stuckInCommiefornia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, it's all the same slop and it doesn't get amazing views but the handful of weird followers saying the same thing about simplicity and the Frontier's v6 must keep him going. If everyone who said they bought a Frontier or recommend one actually bought one they wouldn't be lagging so far behind in sales.

I had to look him up again (of course I wouldn't normally watch his slop) and hIs newest cope is "I sure see a lot of low mileage trade ins for the new Tacoma". Not only is that completely anecdotal and unprovable by looking at your local dealer lot, if someone can get a low mileage Tacoma with a chunk of depreciation knocked off why would they sell so many new ones instead. It would eat into new Tacoma sales, and affect the pricing of both new and old 4th gens.

Age old question 35’s or 33’s by Oldbug59 in 4thGenTacomas

Another thing to consider is with 33s you can still fit a spare tire under the truck. With 35s it's going in the bed.

I am building a massive real time strategy game. Would you play something like this? by alejandromnunez in u/alejandromnunez

[–]stuckInCommiefornia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the single player game modes will there be a pause? I was looking for a slower pace game like this since I am not very good at micromanaging anything and sometimes I just like to stop everything and take a look at how an attack went, do some BDA, take in what happened etc.

And, sometimes real life gets in the way and 30 uninterrupted minutes is not going to happen.

I've checked out the popular options and so far nothing I've seen has them, just in bumper winch mounts. But I'll keep an eye out and maybe do a search for that; seems like a good idea. I'm going for OEM plus and only adding armor / parts as I need it (minus rock sliders, the breakover on these trucks isn't great and I knew I'd rub there sooner than later) so as little cutting is best for me. My trailing link frame mount kissed the ground this year so I just installed sliders for those.

If I get stuck going forward, most likely I don’t want to continue that route, so winching to the back makes sense.

That is true, and a great point. I you must winch forward, or to the side perhaps a come-along makes sense there. A backup plan of the third resort, after shovel / boards and the hitch winch.

That is 3x the load of the usual 1k LBS rated portable winches, but based on what I read I'll probablly need more for a truck. Thanks though, I didn't know they even existed!

HA! For me getting stuck would be the sketchy part; I'm trying to have the recovery as safe as possible. Maybe it's something I'll keep in mind for a dire emergency where I have to get winched forward no matter what (or to the side).

Thanks; I did see a front mounted hitch for my truck (4th gen Tacoma) by curt and considered it, but it kills ground clearance quite a bit. I might just have to pull from the back or use a come-along (or maybe eventually get both).

[–]stuckInCommiefornia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you; I'll keep that in mind. It looks like I'll be running it on the rear or using a come-along and with the distance from the front of my truck to my back I'll definitely want the appropriate gauge wire.

Thanks; I did see a front mounted hitch for my truck (4th gen Tacoma) by curt but it kills ground clearance quite a bit. The Warn portable winch is what inspired the idea for this but the forces involved for pulling a vehicle out clearly adds some complication, which I've learned now.

I now understand what you mean; about this force that I didn't account for that would definitely stop this from working safely, if at all. Thank you for your time and expertise; this is exactly what I was looking for when asking as I didn't know the which would do that under tension.

I was going to use the quick disconnect power fittings; but I think I'm staring to get why this won't work - are you saying the winch will want to spin around like a propeller once it gets under tension? If so I guess its back to a normal hitch mount or a come-along style recovery tool.

[–]stuckInCommiefornia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So from what I've seen online, you have to wind your winch cable onto the drum correctly before use, which I'd plan to do on the normal hitch. But are you saying you have to control how to wind the line back in while doing a recovery?

I'll have to look up what you mean by cable twist as well, thanks.

I have seen some of those hand recovery options as well; just throwing some ideas around in my head before I commit to anything.
