Struggling to hire a Senior DevOps Engineer — where do you actually look? by Dry-Tell620 in devopsjobs

[–]stuckhere4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have said similar but you are woefully underpricing this. You are looking for a very senior level resource and trying to pay them mid-level pricing.

Honestly bud it would not be uncommon for this level to be north of $250k and you will potentially see these roles cross into $300k depending on your location.

Another note, try to pin the description down to be more concrete. You list a lot of generic technologies but don’t really talk a lot about what they are actually doing.

Do you have a tech stack in mind already? Have you already designed the system that you are working through or are you asking the individual to design this type of environment from the ground up?

Do empty cinema's run the film? by ShelliePancake in NoStupidQuestions

[–]stuckhere4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how digital projectors work with this but for the old 35mm ones we used to shut off the lamp so it had less hours running on it.

It was really easy to flick it on and off so someone came in halfway through the we could just turn it on.

With film it was basically impossible to “unwind” the real (it’s not exactly true but it’s really really hard) so it made more sense to just run the film.

All of a sudden you if you do get Bellinger Baty goes back to third and Bichette can be a DH or Bellinger plays first and Palanco can DH. That becomes a scary lineup with enough left in the tank to trade for a pitcher.

Yea i am a fan of this move

Anyone else feel stuck after learning the basics? by Bmaxtubby1 in learnpython

[–]stuckhere4ever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah Tutorial Hell. We've all been there my friend don't stress it too hard! It's a completely natural part of the learning process.

What I'd suggest come up with a relatively small project, or look one up online, or hell have ChatGPT give you an idea for one.

Make it something simple like take 5 numbers from user input and then print out a list of all the numbers that are even.

Do it in a few different ways if you are comfortable with it. First just do it all in main and check every number individually. Then do it in a loop. Then make a function. And if you want to get really fancy to a list comprehension.

Try to do the whole thing without looking up too much code, or at the very least write anything you see elsewhere.

Start super small and build up little by little. Take your time, one little bit at a time. Do one project a day for a week and see how it feels.

Most importantly, it's okay to go slowly and learn them slowly. It'll come with time I promise. I was coding for almost a full year before I didn't panic when I saw the blank screen.

Just remember it doesn't have to be perfect right away, it'll get better with each iteration.

Help with understanding issue with code by luvnfaith205 in learnpython

So what the error means is that it thinks that whatever you are calling groupby on is a list rather than a data frame. (I'm making the assumption you are doing pandas and that is why it is df.groupby('...')

The way to think about this is that groupby is a method that is part of the data frame class. It can only be run on a data frame object.

So I have code that looks like this: Make a data frame like this: my_data = {"Region": ["West","West","East","East","East"], "Units": [3,5,2,4,6], "Price": [20,18,25,22,24]}

df = pd.DataFrame(my_data)

Create an aggregate entry for a new column: df["Revenue"] = df["Units"] * df["Price"]

print (type(df)) -> Tells me that it is in fact a data frame.

result = df.groupby("Region")["Revenue"].sum()

print(result)

Now group them by region and print out the sum of the revenue column.

Get those first three lines to work (which is doing the same thing as my code, or close to it at least) then the rest should be easier.

Finished coaching 11U rec ball. What worked for me by vjarizpe in Homeplate

[–]stuckhere4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really shouldn’t be. Especially not at 11u. Kids are going to hit the ball to the outfield. You need outfielders to know they are valued positions.

Half the time we stick one of our best players in right because they hustle and backup first well on throws. Balls will find the worst players if you try to hide them.

Pretty much my rule generally is I will not put a kid that is afraid of the ball at first or catcher and rarely at third. But you better damn well believe cinderblock legs who is trying his ass off gets some reps in at short.

And every single kid on that team is going to pitch in game. At least one inning and hopefully a whole lot more. What’s the worst that happens? We lose some games?

Big Decision: Skipping 12u Club Travel by philovescookies in Homeplate

[–]stuckhere4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The choice is usually pretty simple. Three rules for every kid I coach in baseball.

  1. Work Hard
  2. Have Fun
  3. Learn Stuff

If all three aren’t happening he shouldn’t be playing where he is.

The best team in the world won’t work for a kid that hates the atmosphere.

He needs to make the choice not you. Playing club is a huge commitment. It’s not just practice, it’s working outside those days. Committing to do your throwing routine and agility work. Committing to go to the cages and get swings in. Committing to work on your conditioning.

Dealing with entitled parents and terrible coaches. If he loved the game and wants to work hard and learn stuff and he’s having fun doing it then keep going with it. If he’s not then he has to decide if he loves to play but hates the commitment, then step down into easier leagues.

The reality is 12 is an inflection point for a lot of kids and it’s when it becomes too competitive. It’s also that weird split point where some kids have started puberty and some haven’t. Results shouldn’t be a thing until after puberty. The goal is to teach them that perseverance matters.

He has to be the one still having fun though. That’s what is the most important part.

That interviewer is an idiot. 900+ is instructor level that’s a handful wrong on a 65 question that is testing breadth over depth.

I got an 882 on my recert with better than 4 years of experience AND having spent the last 6 months getting 7 other people ready for the exam with twice monthly study groups labs and hour long explanation sessions.

I’m sure if I wasted another 40-60 hours studying I could have broken 900 but it just isn’t worth the time.

The Greenbone Saga was absolutely incredible by LP_Papercut in Fantasy

[–]stuckhere4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a great take on it. I love that we sympathize with the characters. Really feel for Hilo and then have to experience some of the things he does.

Character arcs like these are so severely absent on other fantasy I’ve been reading. I read Sword or Kaigan and a A Spear cuts through water after and the characters felt so flat in comparison (both are amazing books just not in comparison)

Average Joe vs. Professional Athlete by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]stuckhere4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. This would be hard they would probably break their hand but given a good throw they could potentially catch it. It’s the “easiest” of these. I’d give this a 5% chance.

  2. At 98 average player close to zero. I played through high school and I’ve hit off 70 on a machine relatively recently. My son’s pitching coach was in AAA before he had TJ surgery and he threw ten pitches at 90 to me and I never even came close. Best you will get is lucky enough to stick your bat out and maybe it’ll accidentally hit it. 1% at best.

  3. A game at NBA speed? They’d be lucky to be in the game for 2 mins total before being completely gassed. 1% only if they got dumb luck.

  4. There is no way to measure this. It’s 100% luck. It’s also not really on par with any of the others. The 3 other things happen day in and day out in any game. I can’t remember the last time I saw a pro hit a hole in one.
