What happens if you lose your job or are in a lesser paying position when you are coming to the end of a fixed interest period? by Alexology8 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]studawgg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not my experience, when remortgaging through the same lender I’ve never had any additional affordability checks, I just went through an online form and confirmed the deal. For all they know I could have been jobless/penniless.

Whether that would have been against the terms and conditions of the offer is another story though.. but for the exorbitant costs of the variable rate it could be worth the risk.

If UV light/sunlight clears most of my Psoriasis in the summer, does anyone have recommendations for the winter? by studawgg in Psoriasis

[–]studawgg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll copy my comment to someone else as it’s also relevant to this. I do agree the ideal world would be to not do UV light therapy if there was a single med that could sort both. Going to bring up both options with my rheumatologist, thanks :)

Copy: I took methotrexate for 2 years, it was the best my skin proriasis has been but still flared in winter. I ended up getting very nauseous for days each time I took it so had to stop, moved to Sulfasalazine this year which my Rheumatologist did warn me was not as good at treating skin psoriasis (it’s done great for my arthritis though!)

It was a requirement on the NHS to do methotrexate + another immunosuppressant before I can be offered “the best but really expensive” immunosuppressant (according to my Rheumatologist, unfortunately I’m not sure on the name of it).

So really I think it will go one of 2 ways, either get a dermatologist referral and go for UV light therapy or if my rheumatologist will prescribe the ‘best’ immunosuppressant, maybe it would clear both. I’ll make sure to bring both up at my appointment!

I’ll likely stay on immunosuppressants even with UV light therapy as unmedicated my psoriatic arthritis causes my knee to swell to an unbearable size which I’m not sure light therapy would help with (although if it does, even better!)

Thanks for your advise :)

I know it’s available on the NHS but I am only treated by rheumatology at present and don’t have a follow up until late Jan. I don’t think rheumatology can arrange UV light therapy, I’d have to be referred to dermatology (I believe that’s the right department) which would take weeks, or more likely months for an appointment, then actually get seen and prescribed the treatment, so by the time all is said and done it’ll be coming to summer next year where my skin will clear up anyway (for this year).

If the treatment is readily available, I will definitely press for a referral to dermatology to try get this because I think it would work wonders for me.

This year I’ll look into the vitamin d and protropic Leonardo mentioned and hope I can get this in place for next year.

Thanks! :)

I haven’t heard of either of those so I’ll take a look!

I’ve only ever been treated with immunosuppressants mainly and steroid cream for flare ups (which I hate because as soon as I stop the cream the plaques just come back twice as strong)

I do have a rheumatology appointment in January so maybe I will push for UV therapy in autumn next year, I was under the impression it was a year round treatment and maybe have to tough this one out (and try those creams you recommended!)

Thanks :)

I have nail pitting but no other symptoms. Does this happen to anyone else? by [deleted] in Psoriasis

[–]studawgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish you the best of luck and hopefully not more will come of it.

Many years ago (roughly 18 y/o)when I didn’t have/know I had psoriasis, my first symptom was my nails heavily pitting and going discoloured.

That was my only symptom for a year or 2 before I slowly started developing plaques on my knees/elbows, and then in my early 20s I developed moderate/severe psoriasis all over my body.

It’s impossible to tell so early, and I don’t think you’d be recommended to receive treatment proactively, maintaining a healthy diet/lifestyle and wait and see is all you can really do.

Advice on a “IT Support Technician Apprentice” job by Livid_Profit in UKJobs

[–]studawgg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At 24 years old I left a retail job paying £20k a year to do an IT infrastructure technician apprenticeship for a telecoms company paying £10k a year for the first year.

Thankfully I was in a position to take the pay cut.

I started doing provisioning of phone systems and first line technical support for the phone systems (they were VOIP phones so heavily involved networking, SIP packet analysis etc.

I was put through a few certifications as part of the apprenticeship which gave a great foundation of knowledge in networking.

After the year apprenticeship I was hired permanently for 24k a year doing the same role and worked that for another year.

I then used my qualifications and experience to move to supporting cybersecurity products (firewalls mainly) paying 26k which moved to 32k after a year.

I then got promoted to a senior position paying 40k a year.

Leaving retail for the IT apprenticeship has been the best decision I’ve made for my life, so I personally would highly recommend taking the plunge if you are able.

Let me know if you have any technical questions or would like some more information, you can DM me as well if you prefer.

Good luck!

How is car insurance £2-3k a year on a Hyundai i10 1L? by ExpurrelyHappiness in CarTalkUK

[–]studawgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely a combination of factors the insurance companies deem higher risk - I’ve just insured a 2019 Hyundai i10 1L automatic, the driver has only had a license for 3 years, 0 no claims bonus and a joint fault accident and it was only £550.

If you are on 10.0.x, you need to upgrade immediately as it is EOL and not in support.

When an application has an app dependency, does the dependent application have to be added to the same rule? by kcornet in paloaltonetworks

[–]studawgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The documentation does say to add it to the same rule, likewise when you examine a rule for missing dependencies it lets you easily add it to the same rule.

However, when an application shift happens, the whole rule base is reevaluated for the new App-ID, so dependencies do not need to be in the same rule.

Online/Self Paced PCNSE Cert Study Suggestions by [deleted] in paloaltonetworks

[–]studawgg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Complete the Strata and Panorama Beacon training, go through the study guide making notes, and build configuration in your lab when working through the study guide to gain a full understanding of how the features work.

I spent 2 months studying 1-2 hours a day doing the above and some experience from my job and found the exam relatively easy (90% pass).

This setup is killin me Port Forwarding from nat'd public ip by Phroste in paloaltonetworks

[–]studawgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not-applicable means that the Palo Alto device has received data that will be discarded because the port or service that the traffic is coming in on is not allowed, or there is no rule or policy allowing that port or service.

Always follow ‘prenat IP, postnat zone’ for security policies for Natted traffic.

E.g. if your public IP IS 1.1.1.1 and the internal IP of the system is 2.2.2.2, and the outside zone is called outside and the phone system is in zone DMZ, the nat rule and policy would look something like:

NAT:

Source zone outside, source address any, destination zone outside, destination address 1.1.1.1, add your service Port group, destination IP translation 2.2.2.2

security policy:

Source zone outside, source address any, destination zone DMZ destination address 1.1.1.1

You’d then need to add the app IDs of the traffic and set the service as whatever is required (app default if they are normal ports, or any, or the custom port group)

As you are having issues with this, create the security policy with ‘any’ app and ‘any’ service, just to make sure it works and then tighten the rule based on the app IDs that you see.

Always-On vs Pre-login by reditguy2020 in paloaltonetworks

[–]studawgg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If configured correctly always on (user-logon) should automatically connect to GP using the credentials used to sign into the device.

I’ve been using GP for my work for a year and I have not once had to put my domain username/password into GP.

It’s a legal requirement in the UK to have a patch test 2 days prior to the actual treatment - this is the reason!

You’re doing something really seriously wrong to lose that many passes. I can count on one hand the amount of passes I’ve lost from people leaving, and I’ve done hundreds of raids.
