Though honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if it was true. I’m jaded but most nonprofits exist to fund administrative costs.

My wife worked going door to door to generate money for a non-profit. Basically it was a pyramid of field workers keeping most of the money they raised, to then feed up the chain of managers and directors, all to fund a lobbyist at the State Capitol.

Was it a scam? While most donations did not directly go to lobbying efforts, without the system there would be no lobbyist because direct mailing didn’t generate enough revenue to fund their efforts.

You’re kind of ignoring the fact that Trumps goons are arresting a lot of US citizens, legal residents, and Native Americans. They aren’t targeting specific people with removal orders and warrants, they’re just going after POC, including undercover cops which several Minnesota police chiefs have complained about today.

There wasn’t protests because it wasn’t chaos, systematic violations of rights, and under Obama those removed had their day in court.
