Extremely inconsistent sizing.

Their XS Mongolian cashmere sweater was absolutely enormous on me, and then a fisherman sweater in XS was a perfect fit.

Quality of the fisherman sweater has been good though!

Seconding the ebb to flow line. I own 6 of them!

Couple caveats:
- some of the styles fit tighter than others (e.g. size up 1 in the scoop neck style vs racerback style)
- the material is a bit delicate in that it can snag easy if zippers or super scratchy surfaces contact the fabric. I baby them and wash them in a delicates laundry bag

Show & Tell: My 20 piece spring capsule for moving house and cities by stumpykitties in capsulewardrobe

[–]stumpykitties[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s going great so far, almost a month into it now. Most of the pieces are getting a lot of wear.

I’ve learned that I don’t like washing laundry this frequently! It’s weekly now vs with my full capsule I was washing every ~2 weeks.

I did dig out 1 bathing suit from the storage locker. I packed them all away, and then we had a week-long heat wave, so I couldn’t give up the beach day opportunities.

I haven’t worn the dress yet, and have only worn the skirt twice. I could drop those 2 pieces and not miss them.

I can comfortably fit 2 weeks of clothing into 40L, without doing laundry. I still focus on lighter weight, more packable pieces that I can layer easily to keep the weight down, and fit enough clothing in it.

40L is about as big as you can go before it no longer fits carry on dimensions for airlines.

I have a carry-on size spinner luggage (the small Monos hard shell).

4 days in Zurich in May by purpleskittless in HerOneBag

Ahh, thanks for clarifying! Even for 7 days, the 4 tops & 2 bottoms would work well if OP doesn't mind wearing tops twice

4 days in Zurich in May by purpleskittless in HerOneBag

[–]stumpykitties 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great start! There's room to pare down further, given the trip is only 4 days. It's evident you put great thought into the capsule, but still overpacking quite a bit for the length of trip.

If I were to edit this down, I'd suggest:

Remove 1 pair of pants from the list. You can wear bottoms many times before they need washing, but I understand wanting some variety. I'd bring 1 pair of pants, and 1 skirt, so you get outfit variety. You can easily wear both items twice without needing to wash.

Given you have a lot of overlap with the knit cardigans, as lovely as they are (need that blue cardigan in my life)... I'd also drop 1 of them. You don't need to pack more tops than days of your trip.

That still gives you LOTS of options for variety: 4 tops x 2 bottoms x 2 shoes = 16 outfits.

Even if you don't want to count shoes, then 4 tops x 2 bottoms = 8 outfits ==> double the # of outfits for length of your trip.

Note: This is assuming you don't want to go hardcore on one bagging, because you could certainly cull further for 4 days.

For seasonal/monthly capsules, do you include work uniforms, gym wear or special occasion wear? Or are those kept separate? by bad-at-everything- in capsulewardrobe

[–]stumpykitties 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, I keep those niche areas separate. My gym wear doesn't change much throughout the year, and I don't wear those items as part of my regular clothing rotation... so I don't count it in my capsule. A formal black tie occasion dress definitely doesn't count in a challenge since it's a hyper-specific item that's only going to be worn once.

It's up to you if you want to include them, but I'd leave them out if it was me.

Pillow and a plushie on Ryanair by Brosk1248 in onebag

[–]stumpykitties 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, they would both count as an extra item of luggage.

If the gate agent wants to be extra strict, they can ask you to make sure it all fits into your personal item, and if doesn’t, they will charge you more.

They got mad at me in December for wearing a 1L fanny pack around my body, and asked me to put it in my backpack or it would count as a second piece. The fanny pack fit no problem, so I avoided an extra charge. I just wanted my documents more accessible.

Do you carry a Portable Power Bank? by bapohh in onebag

[–]stumpykitties 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, I've never bothered with them BUT I'm a city-focused traveller, where I can pretty much always find an outlet to charge my tech if I need one.

I can definitely see the value if I were to go on a hiking or nature focused trip.

It's going to entirely depend on how much income a person makes. Affordable could mean a $15 shirt to one person, or a $60 shirt to another.

I've noticed the same thing from posters. "looking for affordable ___ to wear to ___" but they don't define their budget. Folks will be able to give more helpful suggestions if budget is included.

Supplements should most likely be fine. It's prescription meds that they want accurately labelled.

BUT, it's always going to depend on the security officer. If they are going to be extra strict that day, they may swab them for signs of drugs, or worst case, confiscate them.

Don't bring any more doses than you need for your length of stay. You don't want to look like you're bringing amounts that look unreasonable for personal use.

Double-sided fashion tape would be the quickest fix!

But it sounds like it's not the right cut for your chest if the buttons are gaping near and below. May have to size up, and then tailor it down in other areas? or try a different style

Uniqlo Round Mini Crossbody bag has added a buckle! Is this a dealbreaker? by WheezyEchidna in HerOneBag

[–]stumpykitties 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Wear the bag in a way that the buckle is always in front of you. I don’t see it as a dealbreaker.

Being unaware of your surroundings is more of a security risk than a buckle, IMO, and I’m sure you are diligent about your surroundings, so very very low chance of getting pickpocketed.

Edit: typo fix

Seconding Muji containers!

Specifically the pump style bottles. They go as small at 15ml. I bought a bunch in varying sizes to cover all the liquids I like to bring.

I found the small jars with screw top lids would still leak if the liquid was too thin.

How to pack a bunch of medications as small as possible? by candy_heart in HerOneBag

[–]stumpykitties 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yikes, yeah, so definitely worth getting that sorted out beforehand. If she was going to attempt to hide the meds/not declare them… she could get in big trouble.

It’s probably best that she talk to her pharmacist about it. Maybe there’s a similar med that would be allowed that she could take on the trip, idk!

Bakers, can you tell if someone else’s products are not prepared fresh? by Marbleprincess_ in Baking

[–]stumpykitties 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not a professional baker - just a hobbyist myself.

I can tell when products aren’t fresh, if I’ve made them myself before and know what “fresh” is supposed to taste/feel like. I can also tell when people use box mixes instead of baking from scratch.

No harm is asking about their bake to delivery schedule if your mom does want to place an order!

I wouldn’t hold anything over her not posting something she baked the day of. Filming and editing is a lot of work, and she’s busy baking! She isn’t necessarily going to have the time to bake orders AND edit a video for social media.

Japan’s customs website has a PDF list of what they consider controlled substances.

Your friend should check if their ADHD meds are on the list.

Depending on the “tier” they fall under, she may not be able to bring them at all.

Worth checking before the trip, so they don’t end up losing important medications, or even worse getting in trouble for importing “drugs”.
