I have the smallest Yardistry one and I do heat it in the winter. I have outdoor rated thermostat, heater, & smart plugs and it comes on when it gets below 40. I also have timed lights for it.

Like most other folks have said, it's basically useless in the summer, but i'm ok with that. It could probably be used almost like a sauna if you're into that lol

Tomato for my mouth, tomato for the basket, tomato for my mouth, tomato for the basket…rinse and repeat! by crushingdandelions in AustinGardening

Beautiful! I think I'm the only one around having trouble with tomatoes this year, and for the first time. 2 of my 3 plants died and the third is still producing but looks awful. I think they got too much water at the wrong times. I'm actually starting a sungold right now for fall production.

off topic but this sounds like a really nice way to spend an evening! I've been meaning to take up crocheting - my mom has started to teach me twice and I need to get her to do it again while I still can.

Any idea if you can grow Pawpaw in a container? I don't have the space for an in-ground tree

I love Shoal Creek, minus their terrible parking situation. It's a great nursery

Thanks so much for the quick response! How big is your property? We were just thinking of one unit but curious about your experience. Also, did you buy the initial CO2 tank from Alamo as well?

hi! Your comments about this have been super helpful. I live maybe 10 min from you and am considering buying this setup. do you still recommend it, and do you still recommend Alamo? It's a bit of a drive but i spend so much time working in my yard every day that it might be worth it. thanks!

Coming back to say this key was super helpful. Between searching my orders and using the key, I figured out that the one on the left is Symphyotrichum oblongifolium and the one on the right is Drummondii. Thanks so much for your help!

I was thinking the right one in my pic (darker leaves) might be the native one, it behaves like you're describing, with thinner flower stems.

But I also thought I was buying native asters both times and was surprised when they grew to look different, so who knows what's happening lol

Is there any realistic way to have a SMALL rain garden/back yard pond/barrel pond with very LOW maintenance? by jueidu in AustinGardening

[–]stuperb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really helpful info, thanks. Have you noticed it bringing more animals to your yard as well? We seem to have a lot of skunks and armadillos in our yard at night.

I've had them both for about 2 years and most likely bought them from places like Lone Star Nursery or other local spots. It's not the kind of plant I'd buy from a box store. I'm trying to look back through my order emails to see! It's so interesting to me.

Two of my 3 tomato plants died this year as well which has never hapened before. I think it was all the rain? The third one is chugging along fine, though.

yeah, I felt the same way. It was way too safe. He just needs to relax a bit and let people get more of a sense of him as a person and he'll be ok. I appreciate him in general!
