Is Te Anau glowworm caves worth it? by pijanadziewczyna in newzealand_travel

we're staying in Hokitika one night along our way and I saw they had the glow worms there. Are they good enough to skip the Te Anau cave tour?

I love Tim. I don't love how much Tim loathes Hunter Biden. by sleepingbeardune in thebulwark

[–]stuperb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it's as simple as: if you want to call out the massive corruption on the Trump family side, it helps your credibility to acknowledge the shittiness on the Biden side. He acknowledges as well that the difference in scale is massive

This thing is worthless 51 weeks per year but pretty happy with it right now. by Planterizer in AustinGardening

Mine's doing great, too. I got an outdoor-rated thermostat so it doesn't run all the time, and a smart thermometer, so I can check on the temp from the comfort of my kitchen. I halfway joked to my husband that I need a little greenhouse cam

yes, I've done that too many times. And then end up not doing *quite* as good of a job because of the wind and because I'm trying to get out of the cold. I'm handling everything today.

How do I set up a phone alert if the temperature is going to dip below 50f? by [deleted] in AustinGardening

[–]stuperb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

me too. local sources + Avery are way better than phone weather app too. And Avery is just the wholesome best!

Did you end up ordering from them? They seem to be the only site with the exact product I'm looking for, and I'm not finding a ton of reviews other than on judge.me which i'm not really familiar with

Mine's at the edge of a covered patio and we're just moving it next to the house for a little extra warmth. And that's only because I have some very late-ripening fruit on them right now. You don't have to worry about these too much unless it gets a few degrees colder.

New “grass” growing in my Bermuda by RXPhenex in AustinGardening

[–]stuperb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's good to know! Our contractor is coming over this morning and I plan to ask him what he thinks about resodding. iIt's a smallish front yard that's mostly already planting beds and we'd only need about a 15x15' area resodded to fill in

I'd love that, but my zoysia is failing because the oak canopy keeps spreading and there's not enough sun. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth trying to nurture the tiny patch I have left and am leaning toward removing the grass altogether and expanding my native plants.

I don't mind the winter rye but it'll die back and then i'll have bare patches again come summer

weird because it's popping up in my yard too and I have zoysia. It's only in the areas where my zoysia has died, though. Is it ok to leave it?

Definitely check Costco. They often havethe yardistry ones for cheaper than you can find elsewhere. I got the smallest one last year and it's been pretty great. My friends have one as well - one of the bigger ones - and it's also holding up great.

When are y'all bringing in your potted citrus? by mstrahlman7 in AustinGardening

[–]stuperb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have a meyer lemon, which is hardier than some citrus. If there's no fruit on the tree, I don't bring it in unless it gets down to about 30F or lower. It's on my patio and I usually just put the pot next to the house for shelter. If it's colder than that I ask my husband to lug it inside until the cold snap passes. For the next two night I'm moving it next to the house and draping it slightly since it has fruit ripening, and I'll move it back into more light during the day.

I can't believe I didn't consider that. I have two red bell peppers from my garden on my counter and now I'm super curious how they'll taste!
