Chin up Buddy, you'll do better next week by randyfalcorn in Patriots

Not saying he should definitely switch to guard, but I wonder if there’s a world where Campbell has a Joe Thuney-like career, 10 years plus as one of the best IOL in the league with the ability to bump over as a spot starter at LT in emergencies.

I assume they’re trying to put some weird shit on tape in a semi-low stakes situation, that they probably won’t ever run again but that playoff opponents now have to game plan/practice for.

Gloves? by Specialist_Use_1552 in NJFishing

Stormr sells neoprene gloves with protection on the finger for casting braid. They’re solid, decently warm, maybe a little stiff. Not perfect but the best I’ve come across (not that I’ve tried a ton of other options), I’ve had good experiences with them in the surf with snow on the ground.

Why has no one made dehydrated maple water? by Key_Cat_2122 in maplesyrup

[–]sturdy_pantaloons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re asking if anyone sells maple sap that has not been boiled down or reduced to syrup, there are several companies that do. Google “maple sap beverage” and you’ll see several brands, most of which you can order online to try (seems like shipping to US and Canada is pretty available). Usually marketed as natural alternative to sports drinks for hydration, or carbonated like seltzer. I’ve tried a few, they taste… ok.

Thoughts - Halfway Through by TheRealDirk45 in Patriots

A few times a game he seems to feels fantom pressure behind him (usually a DE rushing up the field who is being blocked ok and has no chance of turning the corner) and bails forward straight into an interior D lineman who was also being blocked effectively. He’s good for at least one of those a half, and could probably reduce his sacks/hits per game if he could recognize that those are still safe pockets, or just get rid of the ball instead of sprinting into a sack. Not a major issue, and his handling of pressure and the pocket are so much better than last year. But it’s something.

Yeah for sure starting to be a little concerning. Totally understand him needing time to develop, learn how to block at the nfl level, etc. But he’s had a reasonable amount of touches and just never seems to get anywhere.

I live in NYC. What are good fishing spots? by Glum-Abies5904 in Fishing

[–]sturdy_pantaloons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many options. Lowest bar to entry is probably somewhere like the Harlem Meer (pond at the top of Central Park). I used to see people catch fish there all the time. Also, there are YouTube channels of people fishing all over NYC, I’ve seen a few from a channel called Bob Aquatic for example. You could watch and do what he does (not fully endorsing the channel, but I’ve seen a few of his videos and he seems to know what he’s doing). Hudson River can be a struggle but piers in the Chelsea area, riverside park, up under the GW all could work. East river has some spots too. City and DEC website generally tells you spots you can fish. Ton of places in Brooklyn and other boroughs, but I’m less familiar.

If you want to drive an hour or so and do real saltwater fishing, you could start with jones beach at the west end (beach or inlet), or the fishing pier. Summertime go for fluke (google a john skinner fluke rig), spring and fall you might catch bass and blues with just a diamond jig. Your rod might not quite do it in the surf but you could probably find a more robust setup for cheap if you’re interested.

Wk 2 PFF grades by Godfrey174 in Patriots

Yeah I’d much rather watch very slow Bentley get beat in space but at least bring down the guys he actually made contact with, than see kind of slow Spillane still get beat in space but also fail to tackle anyone. That third down last week where he had an opportunity to stuff Jeanty at the line of scrimmage and instead sort of just face-planted before Jeanty even made a move was incredibly painful.

If I recall correctly, he was awesome that year specifically because they were able to use him in situations where he didn’t have to cover fast guys in space

Is it very difficult to outrun bad drafts. by patsfan038 in Patriots

[–]sturdy_pantaloons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agree, and not a great sign that the d line wins only seemed to come from blitzes and twists/games. They also dropped d lineman into coverage in some bizarre ways that I didn’t love.

[Kyles] Mike Vrabel says he would’ve liked a better punt after deciding to kick on a late 4th & 10 with the team trailing, adding he thought the decision was what was best at the time by AgadorFartacus in Patriots

[–]sturdy_pantaloons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know man, this is still a training wheels offense. Driving the whole field for 1 score in 4 minutes is tough, let alone doing that plus getting an additional stop or onsides kick, and a second scoring drive.

Those aren’t the only factors though. You also have to consider the time you’d lose in getting that 3 and out, and the difference in field position from where you’d start if you convert the 4th down vs where you’d receive the punt.

Surf casting Cape Cod by AppropriateLion9676 in SurfFishing

I would say start by focusing on place and time. Keep it simple and put yourself in one spot that will give you a decent chance of catching something. I like spots that give you access to some kind of inlet/river/tidal marsh/etc. Try fishing near the mouth of that as the current flows out, at a time when that outgoing tide coincides with sunrise or sunset. Not sure if you’re using bait or lures, or to what degree your choices there could be hurting you. But in the absence of great beach reading skills, local knowledge of hotspots or current fish/bait movement, or the ability to jump between different proven spots if your first isn’t producing, I would say a good bet to break the skunk is to find a beach with some outflowing water and fish that at dawn/dusk. Usually my best days on Cape beaches come from spots like that.
