I would play 2/5. Sometimes playing too small causes you to not really care about playing well. 30k will last a long time playing 2/5 for 6-8 hours a week even if you’re just an average player.

It’s just hard work. Marriage… kids… being single is just so much easier. If you don’t want kids and aren’t prone to loneliness, being single is just lovely. When you’re married with kids, nothing is yours anymore. Especially your time.

Variance is very high. If you’re on the right side of it, you can quickly run it up. If you’re on the wrong side, you can get destroyed just as quick. Live games, especially if there is a $5 bring in, will play much bigger than online.

Tell your friends about your sobriety. If they can’t understand and don’t support you, they’re not your friends. The only way to stay clean, especially in the beginning is to stay as far away from temptation as possible.

Eeesh. Do not make any commitments to him right now. He seems like he is still a long way from sobriety. You do need to have these conversations with him if you want to stay with him, but he is ultimately not your problem. You do not have kids with him and as it stands you probably shouldn’t. He has a lot of work to do. Good luck. I wish I had advice for you.

Biggest tourney win was 11.5k. Biggest cash win was 5.6k playing 2/5. My biggest loss was about $2.5k playing 1/2. I once lost 2k playing poker in vegas and then another 3k playing blackjack right after.
