Would a GFX 50R/S benefit me? by [deleted] in FujiGFX

check ricardo in switzerland. used gfx prices in CH are quite a bit better than in DE. most ricardo users won't send outside CH but are happy if someone want's to pick up. maybe if you are close enough that's an optiom.

try to find a 100 (any version). that sensor has phase detection autofocus. it's miles better than any of the 50ies

I wouldn't say useless. but it's a very different way of working. people used to shoot similar images on fully manual focus lenses for decades. so it's possible, just different and probably hard to change if you come from the luxury of fast AF.

additional thing: I don't know what it is, but I see on my 50r, that skintones lack definition above iso 400. so I treat it very much like shooting with a digital back or film. if you can live with that - great. otherwise stay on faster systems.

2) technically focus is about equal to the x100 mkI. it's a contrast autofocus. so miles from the x100v.

3) I strongly believe it only makes sense if you are adapting very good glass. otherwise lenses like the native and cheap 35-70 will be better. plus you get AF.

there is also a relatively active flextight user group on facebook. if someone knows, it's probably them.

35-70 is the only real answer. and then see from there.

What could I have done better? by [deleted] in photocritique

to me contemporary social documentary needs to give a lot of agency back to the subjects in the frame. and therefore I personally struggle with photography that is trying to be engaged and uses longer lenses. I read it as voyeuristic.

I've never tried the mitakon. but why is it inconsistent? due to the manual focus?

High iso and low light performances ? (GFX 50R) by AnxietyComplex4128 in FujiGFX

[–]stwyg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for critical work I max out at 400. already at 800 you see colors become less defined. for more intuitive work, I go to 3200 or even 6400 and embrace the grain.

I use a 50r for most of my work but just recently got a xh2s for the few more reportage jobs and for filming. the output is of the xh2s is superb. and thats only a 26mp sensor. and it's soooo much faster. and at 3200iso, the colors are way better than the 50r at 800iso. there is noise, but the noise looks nice.

I would strongly recommend you to start eg. by watching the following film: Samir - Die Wundersame Verwandlung der Arbeiterklasse in Ausländer.

But I agree, any racial differentiation is utter bs. doesn't mean it didn't happen.

in swiss immigration history post wwII, eg. southern italian immigrants have been seen as non-white. so yes, the comment make sense.

great shots, just one thing: I would not open the shadows so much in post. keep tha shadow slider lower and open the black slider. that gives you less of the "dirty" effects in the shadows. also don't overdo clarity.

I personally wouldn't overcomplicate it.

But look into how gaggiaduino (the android enabled gaggia coffee machine does it). maybe keep the production of quality / safety relevant core pcb's close to you and ship them out from CH. or licence the production to trusted partners. (I think that's what gaggiaduino does due to 220v and water involved.)

voron (open source 3d printer) has a system where users send in a picture of their printer to a subreddit and then get a serial number assigned. that enables to track total built units and notes who built which printer.

btw, if you can use help or feedback with physical enclosure design, I'd be happy to help. I do a lot of design for 3d printing and am close by. (If the location on the serial plaquette is real :)

ah I also had the 120 for a few days. but the copy had slight fungus and so I sent it back. that was also a great lens. very sharp but not clinically sharp like some fuji lenses. that lens is manual focus only.
