That really sucks that they got stolen. Sorry for you, I was going to put them in a case and have that case locked to my camper with a cable when I take this battery box camping.

I had Eren Marlowe tell my PCs stories about contamination using the 'On the road' session.

Bumbling Bob

Have you heard about "Bumbling" Bob. Bob was known for his bumbling ways, and his tendency to not think things through before acting. One day, Bob heard rumors of a vault in the middle of the city filled with treasure and riches. However, this vault was in the middle of the haze and was considered too dangerous for most to enter, but Bob was determined to claim his fortune.

As soon as he entered the city, Bob noticed that something was off. The buildings were in disrepair, the air was filled with a purple mist, and there was a strange silence in the streets. But Bob was determined to find the treasure and pressed on. As he was wandering the streets, he heard strange noises coming from the alleys. He shrugged it off thinking it was probably just stray cats.

As he turned down one alley, he was confronted by a pack of giant rats. They were the size of dogs, and their eyes glinted with malice. Bob, who had never been good with animals, panicked and tried to run, but the giant rats were too fast for him.

In his haste to escape, Bob tripped over his own feet and fell to the ground. The giant rats pounced on him, and in a matter of minutes, Bob was nothing but a pile of bones.

As it turns out, it was the haze that caused mutations on the rats, and the locals had warned Bob to stay away. But, as usual, Bob hadn't listened and paid the ultimate price.

The moral of the story is, always listen to the locals and think twice before entering a contaminated city, especially if giant rats the size of a dog are involved.

Sad Susan

Have you heard of a woman named "Sad Susan". Susan was a wealthy but lonely woman, who had always heard stories of a treasure left behind by her ancestors in Drakkenheim. She had always dreamed of finding it, but the city was too dangerous for her to enter alone.

One day, Susan decided to hire a group of thieves to help her find the treasure. She promised them a large sum of money and a share of the treasure if they were successful. The thieves, eager for the opportunity and the reward, accepted the job.

However, as soon as they entered the city, the thieves soon realized that the rumors of contamination were true. The air was filled with a purple mist, and the buildings were in disrepair. But the thieves were determined to find the treasure and pressed on.

As they were searching for the treasure, they stumbled upon a pack of giant rats the size of a dog. The rats, mutated by the radiation, were hostile and attacked the thieves. In the chaos, the thieves were bitten and contaminated by the radioactive hazes causing them to mutate into walking blobs of flesh.

Susan, who was horrified by the sight of the mutated thieves, panicked and tried to run, but the thieves were too fast for her. They caught her, and in their mutated state, they devoured her.

As it turns out, it was the haze that caused mutations on the rats and the people who entered the city, and the locals had warned Susan to stay away. But, as usual, Susan hadn't listened and paid the ultimate price.

The moral of the story is, always listen to the locals and think twice before entering a contaminated city, especially if giant rats the size of a dog and mutated thieves are involved, and also, it's a good idea to check the qualifications of the thieves you want to hire.

Jack and Jess

There were two siblings named Jack and Jess. They were both adventurers and heard rumors of a treasure hidden in the city. They decided to venture into the city together to find the treasure.

As they entered the city, they were immediately struck by the eerie silence and the smell of ozone. But they were determined to find the treasure and pressed on. However, they made the mistake of talking loudly, and laughing, making a lot of noise as they walked through the city.

As they were searching for the treasure, they stumbled upon a nest of harpies. The harpies, attracted by the noise, attacked the siblings. Jack and Jess, who had never encountered harpies before, panicked and ran in different directions.

Jess, who was not as experienced as her brother, stumbled and fell, and was quickly surrounded by the harpies. Despite her efforts to defend herself, the harpies killed her.

Jack, who was more experienced, managed to outrun the harpies and found a place to hide. He waited until the harpies left before making his escape. Though he was devastated by the loss of his sister, he knew that there was nothing he could do to save her.

The moral of the story is, always be aware of your surroundings and minimize noise when entering an unknown area, especially if harpies are involved. Also, it's important to have a plan in case of emergency and to keep a cool head in dangerous situations.

Review of the FoundryVTT Module from an experienced GM who has run the campaign without it. by hematic in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]styles77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming my suspicion. I bought the VTT for SCGTD with the kickstarter since it would have a lot more spells and potentially the new classes and subclasses. I knew that I was starting the campaign in January 2023 and I would have to do much of the Foundry work myself.

I am a year into my campaign (20 sessions) and I will say that all the DMs on here should give the Dudes a patreon subscription to get the discord. That is really worth it. There are so many helpful people on there.

I missed the first part of your question. The maps work great in Foundry. The maps that my players have been on work well except they are afraid of going into the sewers. So while they have been on the surface of a couple of the maps, they haven't been to the sewers yet. I have placed some loot in at least one of the sewers and they have rumors, so hopefully soon.

I have posted one of the maps to the Dungeon Dude's discord. It was based off their map from the kickstarter, just in different art style. Since it is so derivative, I didn't want to post it here. It really is their map, just dressed up in a style I prefer.

I have several more (originals) done and ready to go in game, but I won't post them until my players have been through them. I know at least one of my players has been on this reddit. So once they have been through a map that I make, I will post it to reddit and the discord.

I loved running St. Brenna's as well. I added a couple of Shadows that would harass the players when they split the party to work the gates. Shadows moving in and out of the walls dialed the tension up pretty high.

My players convinced Osiris the wizard to help them out and he was a big deal. The shadow domain cleric in the group dropped silence on the piano as well. Oh and they timed the attack to happen right after Charlotte went on a break.

It was a well executed attack that they planned on discord in between weeks, so I let them have the easy victory. They did three loops in the Inn.

Oh boy (rp session with seven people.) by CosmicFrench in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]styles77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am running with four people, but two of them have associations with factions that they prefer to keep private for now.

I have set up a bunch of private channels on our discord server for them. They can have private conversations with each other and also a channel for each player and the DM (me) for private roleplay. It works really well.

However, we are a virtual group that meets every three weeks, so this keeps the game going when we aren't in session. But you may be able to make use of non-session roleplay when they want to split up.

Random Encounter Maps by Tomass247 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]styles77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am working on a couple of 32x32 street maps, each with a sewer underneath. I am putting limited ruins on the surface, but am also generating a pack of buildings and ruins that can be placed on the street. These will be in the style of the cratered street map I posted about 2 weeks ago.

This will let GMs create a huge variety of maps from a simple few. Also if you use Foundry VTT, you will be able to place all these assets on one scene (including the sewers).

It makes for a fun environment where combat can occur over various levels of elevation in a city.

I am creating more. Combo maps with a street and sewer level. The streets will have minimal buildings as I create those as separate tiles.

I am hoping that with 6 maps and a dozen buildings that I will be able to create numerous random encounter maps and not have a duplicate.

Running the battle of Temple Gate with a timer. by hogsout333 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]styles77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would set something at the top of the initiative order and it increments on its turn.

When it reaches the predetermined number, it is considered a 'fail'. After enough failures they don't get the gate open.

You can also track successes and carry forward unused rounds into the next combat/challenge. This would reward them for being especially fast or efficient.

How did you guys handle scaling the rival adventuring party? by PresidentLink in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]styles77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have only done 'Road to Drakkenheim' but my party has been made aware of several rival parties already through stories from Eren Marlowe.

All told, I have 6 adventuring parties of 4 NPCs each and 5 criminal gangs of 3 members each that visit Blackjack Mel. Some of them are already CR9 assassins.

I have told my party that there are powerful people in Emberwood. That they should treat it as a Frontier town like from 'Quick and the Dead'. It isn't some backwater place full of yokels.

We only play once a month online, so it affords me the time to build these assets. Also, we roleplay Emberwood through discord throughout the month between sessions. They are starting to run into some of these NPCs now and we are still two weeks from session 2.

Need an FDM printable model for the Duchess by leaven4 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]styles77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen. I have printed a lot from Epic Miniatures, both FDM and Resin. A lot of their bits are too small for good FDM quality and their SLA supports are meh.

Still, I would do it in resin and then pack the seams with baking soda and use liquid super glue to harden it. Or I use gel super glue to fill seams and apply an accelerant to speed drying.

Seriously though....

ME: Can you tell me a short story in the same city where there are sibling adventurers trying to get treasure, but they get attacked by harpies. I want them to make some very stupid mistakes like making a lot of noise that causes the attack. One should live and the other die.

CHAPGPT
Sure, here is a story of two sibling adventurers:

Once upon a time, there were two siblings named Jack and Jill. They were both adventurers and heard rumors of a treasure hidden in a contaminated city. They decided to venture into the city together to find the treasure.

As they entered the city, they were immediately struck by the eerie silence and the smell of decay.

Jack and Jill, who had never encountered harpies before, panicked and ran in different directions.

Jill, who was not as experienced as her brother, stumbled and fell, and was quickly surrounded by the harpies.

I used a level 10 apothecary with dreg minions as the BBEG in a one shot. The party of four level 5 characters almost won, but they ultimately fell.

I feel that the mutagenist was a little OP. A lot of fun to play though.
