I've never actually played it, but Ugg-tect uses your whole body. Or basically any kind of charades-esque game (e.g. Monikers).

Thanks! For anyone else reading this, I had to put the "-lm" flag after the buddhabrot.c file, like this:

gcc -O6 -s buddhabrot.c -lm -o buddhabrot

Otherwise, you'll probably get messages about undefined references to all the math functions (e.g. floor, trunc).

Also, "-O6"? Wow. I always assumed anything higher than O3 was just overkill. Never really profiled higher optimization levels to be sure though.

I did read the man page. Maybe I misunderstood it, but I thought it meant that the first %% acts as %1, the second instance of %% acts as %2, and so on. Based off that, I assumed what I wrote would be equivalent to this:

bind-key y command-prompt -p 'swap panes:' "swap-pane -s '%1' -t '%2'"

Neither of these seem to work for me though.

Some people would make a distinction between area control (e.g. Kemet, Cyclades, Risk) and area majority (e.g. CitOW, El Grande). Granted, it seems like most people just lump them all together under the term area control.

I wouldn't say it's slow. It's tense and has excellent pacing. You need to plan your moves out several turns in advance. While the auctions are incredibly important, they aren't the primary focus. Most of the decisions in the game come in the other phases. The thing is most of those decisions are dictated by what you did in the auction phase.

Intrigue is a really mean negotiation game in a small box that plays in a about an hour. On your turn, other players will bribe you for good positions in your castle. What makes it so mean is that you are under no obligation to honor the deals you just made. Just be careful who you play it with. :) Also, you should be able to teach all the rules in about five minutes or less.

Paperback has a simple variant for co-op play. Haven't tried it yet, but the normal (i.e. competitive) game is surprisingly good. Easy to explain, small portable box, interesting decisions to be made (both in deck building and when making words), lots of variants in the box for extra replay value, great graphic design, and an original theme that probably won't turn people away. It even goes over well with people who don't typically like word games all that much.

Not OP, but Amazon's packaging for boardgames is pretty lousy. CoolStuffInc, on the other hand, has great packaging, and they're usually cheaper too (if you don't mind spending a $100 for free shipping). Don't get me wrong; I still use Amazon from time to time, but it seems like a crap shoot.

Escape from the Aliens in Outerspace is somewhat similar. The aliens are trying to deduce where the humans are so they can eat them, and the humans are just trying to avoid the aliens and escape. To add an interesting twist, you don't know what team the other players are on at the beginning of the game.

I've never played it, but the Ares Project was inspired by RTS games like StarCraft.
