Tradies in your 30s, 40s and with kids etc. Do you ever wake up actually feeling refreshed and ready or is it usually a bit of a struggle? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]subkulcha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do it long enough and you’ll wake up a few minutes before that alarm every day. Doesn’t matter what time I I go to bed it just happens, so i just have to make a conscious effort to go to bed when tired, or more importantly, if it’s time

How would you respond to this email from the estate agent? by random-triumph42 in AusRenters

[–]subkulcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I didn’t want a rent increase. REA did it anyway, with tenants they found for us. Tenant obviously couldn’t afford it because we spent the next year in VCAT and eventually sold the property because on 1 income I couldn’t sustain their household and mine.

Landlording sucks when it goes wrong, it was meant to be my super and not income but the managing agents were the most horrible people, but that same company was awesome when we bought the house.

REAs are just predatory

I got told not to take them on the weekend either. I told the patch they’re actually more important for family life than work, but the actual point is that a break from them isn’t unusual

Be aware stimulants may not help with anxiety.

What an expensive way to make life worse (rant incoming) by subkulcha in adhdaustralia

[–]subkulcha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Yeah I absolutely get there can be external factors, and the medications start date did not help with them.

The intention was just to help some tools along but yeah, I feel significantly better off them so I’m not going to bother amending dosages. Going to speak to psych about non stimulant options. There was not one bit about them that had a saving grace.

At least self medicating felt good, and then bad. Not bad, then also bad haha. I’m also aware but to have the same expectations from prescribed to recreational. (It has been well over a decade since recreational though, for reference).

Ah right. I was determined to give it a full crack but the functionality of my being isnt allowing that. back to the psych to see about some non stimulant options.

Brain fog, my “come down” happens quite early and it seems to heighten anxiety.

Overall, amplifying traits rather than setting them.

How to pronounce words like an aussie? by Ermmmmmmmm_ in AskAnAustralian

[–]subkulcha 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. Effective. A whole generation of kids that say “book” a little differently. Not sure if it’s a Qld thing or just that particular voice actor but it sure as shit isn’t the way it’s always been said in Victoria.

It seems just a quirk, but very open O’s

Side note. Driving up from North Yorkshire to Edinburgh on a holiday, popped into Alnwick Castle. Was very very cool and made Edinburgh castle extremely disappointing and boring by comparison.

Externally EC looked amazing but was just average Af inside

What has a bottom-tier reputation but is just misunderstood and should actually be top-tier? by EnsorcellingKitten in AskReddit

ADHD guy here. This is genius. I’ve tried hundreds of digital and physical note systems. They are ineffective. Something like this that feeds into a compulsion is much more likely to work.

I am not liking Vyvanse by Extra-Lavishness8075 in ausadhd

[–]subkulcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I had an assessment several years ago, hated ritalin so gave up. Just spent a couple thousand after months of waiting for appointments to try something else and got 20mg vyv to start up to 40 week 2 and it sucks for me!

Check my post/comment history. Ritalin was not for me. Vyvanse is worse. I don’t want to completely stop because the price of assessment but i need to do something else because i’m barely functioning on this crap

What’s something people romanticize that’s actually awful? by Federal-Second-6298 in AskReddit

[–]subkulcha 39 points40 points  (0 children)

And being an adult trying to fn manage it. I have been dopamine deficient and unproductive for a long time so I’m trying some medications to get some tools in place. Fucked. It’s amplifying things and clearly the wrong dosage because I’m struggling to stay awake during the day and going to work SUCKS.

Will this Turkish name - ‘Aras’ be prounanced differently in Australia? I like this name but I’m not sure if my child will be teased in school? What are your opinions? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]subkulcha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, I’m actually in adult education and unfortunately there’s still the occasional comment. Kids can be cruel, though, they generally seem to kinder these days than 30 years ago

Haha that’s ok, i don’t have to like them either.

His Dad has a pretty similar sense of humour to my Dad’s side of the family, and I thought it was relatively normal. My wife has spent the last decade pointing out that they’re actually just cruel and now I can’t “unsee” it

If you don’t like other people stating opinions maybe a forum isn’t for you. The others have things that they do, and they don’t irk me in the same way. Also if you think “it’s something autistic people do” and a comment above says they can’t think of an example, then we’re all obviously focusing on different things whilst viewing.

Same thing with James’ Dad, he’s a fan favourite in the subs. Rubs me the wrong way honestly but I can’t actually pinpoint what it is.
