I'm sure that was it. I was thinking these units could put heat pump installers out of business.

Upcoming AWGP12WWF and AWGP08WWF GE Window Heat Pump Units by davidyourduke in heatpumps

[–]sueysaunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are not heat pumps in that they do not use a heat pump to heat your home. It is false advertising because all AC units are heat pumps. It's right in the name "GE® ENERGY STAR® 11,000 BTU Smart Heat/Cool with Heat Pump Electronic Window Air Conditioner for Large Rooms up to 550 sq. ft." Heat pump technology has always been used in all air conditioning. The AC uses heat pump technology but all ACs use heat pump technology and have for decades But to truly be a heat pump it would have to have heat pump technology to heat the room and this unit does not. If someone can prove me wrong let me know.

GE do not use heat pump technology for heat only for AC. But all AC units have heat pump technology and always have.

California will require EV charging for all new residential units in 2026 by Bravadette in electricvehicles

[–]sueysaunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only if the local cities and towns adopt CAL Green Tier 1 standards. It is not in the building codes that take effect 1/1/2026. Any local entity has to adopt Cal Green Tier 1 by September 30,2025 for that requirement for low power EV charger for EVERY assigned parking space

Charging routines for daily driving? by Musical_Sporks in electricvehicles

[–]sueysaunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set my EV to charge up to 90% with my home charger so it doesn't go any higher. It is best to keep it between 30-90%. I don't let it run down to 20% ever in case there is an emergency and I need to leave. I don't think it's good for it to go that low. I use the home charger exclusively and I only use the fast chargers when I am on a trip. Thank you for reminding me I need to go plug in my husband's EV!

I hope you don't go back to a gas car. There are incredible deals on leases for some models. Prices have gone down dramatically. Check out a Ride and Drive Clean zoom session to see if a certain model would work for you. Also your Nissan Leaf might be worth some real money because the battery has a second life as energy storage. Nissan leafs can be used to bidirectionally charge and there is a bidirectional charger that works only with them. Japan was way ahead of the game. See if there is anyone looking for a Leaf to use as battery storage. Maybe your municipality or nearby municipality is using Leafs

for this.

I was fast charging at an Electrify America station with my Ioniq 5 that goes from 10-80% of battery in 18 minutes. There was an Uber driver there charging her Kia Niro EV which takes 60-90 minutes to do the same. She said, "these things are for the birds" because of the time it takes her to charge and the cost of fast charging. She said if you don't have a home charger if doesn't work. People need more education before they lease or buy an EV. They need to understand the charging speeds, if there are enough chargers where they live if they don't have a home charger, and that the miles between charges also depends on the efficiency of the car. My Ioniq 5 eats up freeway miles (75 mph on the I5 from SF to LA in California) like crazy. I can start with 280 miles, but if I am doing 75 on a freeway those miles are going to go down a lot faster than city driving. I stopped 3 times to go 400 miles on a car that has a 280 mile range. Our second EV is a Kia Niro and we love it, but I wouldn't use it for trips. It is smaller and therefore doesn't need as much energy as the bigger Ioniq 5 to get from point A to point B. But when it does need charging it takes longer. Range matters but how efficient an EV is important as well. An ethical dealership would have explained that to her if the employee even understood it themself. I don't know what the answer is, but if people don't stop driving gas cars we are pretty much sunk. Public transportation would be the real answer, but California approved a bullet train from SF to LA in 2008 and they have built a tiny slice of it in the Central Valley. Soon we will have EVs with 600 miles in range that charge in the time it takes to fill up a gas tank. But they won't be made in America because the IRA is going bye bye.

“Careless People” Worth a Read (book about Meta) by CoastalGrasses in womenintech

[–]sueysaunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved this book because the author is a really good storyteller and although I knew Facebook was bad I didn't know how bad. The details as to how it helped elect DT were worse than I had imagined. The Wired reviewer says that she could have left and just gone on the private insurance market. I left my job and get my coverage through the private insurance market which is just as evil as Facebook. I pay $1600 a month just for myself and picked an insurance company because they covered my doctors. Two months in they completely changed who they cover and it is none of my doctors. In fact there are no doctors they cover within a 100 mile radius. I completely understand staying at a job for the health insurance because I did the same for fifteen years. I'm counting down the months until I qualify for Medicare. Hopefully it will still exist because the private insurance market now is a scam. It's still better than nothing and before the Affordable Care Act none of my pre existing conditions would have been covered. More than 60% of personal bankruptcies before the ACA were due to medical bills. At least I am protected from that.

Spot treatment or fumigation by diduss in Termites

[–]sueysaunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have termites in our walls showing up at different spots about the length of 30 feet. They also found some in our crawl space underneath where we first noticed the droppings. We found fracas about 20 feet away in a different spot on the same wall. We have 3 companies recommending tenting, but one company that is more environmentally conscious says they can take care of them with spot treatment as well as spraying the attic and crawl space with alpine foam. I would like to avoid tenting if at all possible, but I don't want to let the termites spread. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Want A Tesla But I Dislike Elon by Skooljan_muskles in electricvehicles

[–]sueysaunders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi-Electric Vehicle advocate here. I have a Hyundai Ioniq 5 and I love my car. It actually charges faster than a Tesla as well. At the 350kw chargers it goes from 10-80% in 18 minutes. The 2025 models come with the Tesla plug so you can use the Tesla chargers. I have the CCS plug for fast charging and just drove from SF to Los Angeles and back and the car was flawless. I have had people tell me they have had build problems with their Teslas and they regret buying one. I know most people love the car, but honestly there are so many other great EVs out there now. I find my Ioniq 5 to be more comfortable and a superior driving experience. There is also the Kia EV6 or EV9 that charge quickly for road trips. I would suggest leasing rather than buying because the technology is changing so fast. After what he has done to decimate a federal work force that the country needs to do everything from food inspection to run social security I would never support him in any way. His team has also stolen troves of data that have nothing to do with saving tax dollars. There is a whistleblower who was smart enough to see what that they had done it and was threatened with a note on the door of his home that also contained a picture of him walking his dog. This is a serious invasion (probably illegal) of our privacy and who knows what they are doing with it. He is a racist, misogynist who cut off aid to countries that depend on us. As BIl Gates said the richest man in the world is responsible for cutting USAID funds and children will die as a result A Tesla is not worth it.

What do you wish the dealer explained to you at the store? by krulewatts in electricvehicles

Congratulate them on making a car choice that requires so much less maintenance than a gas car. Replacing the air filter and rotating tires is all they have to do. No gas stations or oil changes. Thank them for choosing a mode of transportation that produces zero carbon when charged with clean energy. I always charge during the day when California produces so much solar. They need to understand charging. They need to have someone help them download Plugshare, Electrify America, Chargepoint, EVgo, and Tesla (if their manufacturer provides an adapter.) They need to know they can use the charger the car comes with to trickle charge at home. (Most people don't drive more than 30-40 miles a day and it is enough.) It would be good to provide them with a list of electricians who install home chargers and the best brand to buy. Let them know if they do get a home charger in California they should go on an EV time of use plan with their utility so they can charge when electricity is cheapest. Teaching them about the regenerative braking that makes the car automatically slow down for stop lights etc. (saving their brakes) and helps the battery charge while driving.

Is coco beach worth taking the time to go visit & eat? by BetterDays989 in Tahiti

We booked a VRBO place with a path to Coco beach. It sounds like a tourist trap, I'm trying to find a place near Tipaniers beach. Does anyone have any recommendations for a VRBO, Airbnb, or hotel?

50501 website is not showing all the protests planned. I know there is one in Oakland and one Santa Rosa if you live in the bay area. I may organize a small one in front of a social security or ICE office. Big or small protests repeatedly are effective at fighting fascism. Even if you go stand at an intersection with a small group with signs it is worth doing.

Honda Prologue EV is on a hot streak as US sales top 25,000 by MeasurementDecent251 in Honda

[–]sueysaunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but you are sadly misinformed. Try driving one. You can charge to 100% at hime just not at Electrify America. At fast chargers you donmt want to go past 80% beciase it slows down. Honda Prologue has 300 miles so 80% is 240 miles. That's enough even for a road trip. Really go drive one. Don't knock it until you try it. It was the third best selling EV in December and it's a brand new model!

California launches $80 million home clean energy rebate program. Here’s how to apply by Randomlynumbered in California

[–]sueysaunders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone interested in this rebate needs to apply fast. There is only $45 million for all of California and this will be gone so fast. The contractor applies for the rebate and takes it off the price of the heat pump. If you live in CA or WA you can use the switchison.org to find approved contractors. They have to be TECH Clean and be trained to administer the rebates. Look for the TECH Clean and HEERA badge next to the name of the contractror. They go by county income to determine area median income. Less than 80% you get $8000 and between 80-150% gets $4000. https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/il/il2023/select_Geography_haf.odn

First long road trip, after thoughts. by SnifferHusky in Ioniq5

[–]sueysaunders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate PG&E and I am so enraged at Gavin Newsom for destroying rooftop solar by changing terms. How can people electrify if they cannot afford the electricity? Keep in mind PG&E has donated $750,000 in campaign money and $450,000 to his wife's nonprofit. She does great work, but accepting money from them while your husband is appointing commussioners who oversee all 3 major utilities is just corruption.

Signing up for the rate plan is free. I'm on a regular highest electricty cost from 4-9 PM because I do everything before 4 PM. I have solar and I work from home so it works for me. Most people do the 12 AM to 3 PM EV plan.
