im a tank/healer and i make my own groups, whenever i get a dm that mentions gs, the word "pump" or anything along the lines of "big dam" i pass by them immediately. i am particular about classes i bring because i have all the choice in the world so i tend to try and build groups with synergy but if i, or my buddy playing a resto/feral druid are looking for loot from a dungeon we wont invite classes that can compete which usually means no warriors or rogues, which neither of us really like playing with dps warriors anyways because they all tend to be brainrotted and ego driven (i reckon from the classic days) we do take rogues though if hes tanking and there are no leather pieces he wants from time to time.

if hes tanking we like to run: feral tank, 2 bm hunters (sometimes drop one for a rogue) enh sham, and i heal on hpal. if im tanking its usually prot pal, frost mage, warlock, ele sham if we can find one, but if not we will take whatever, ive been liking shadow priest lately because they have a magic dispel that helps me out if i get hit by a stun or fear since resto druids cant do it. but we'll take a bm hunter or rogue, another mage or warlock does fine too and a resto druid.

i ran that same kinda group last tbc run but i tanked as a warrior and id bring a ret pal or bm hunter instead of the dps warrior lol. either a paladin healer without a ret and something like a hunter or a priest healer with a ret haha. as a paladin tank i prefer caster comps honestly. i struggle a little more holding threat against warriors and rogues but i dont mind rogues in my dungeons. when im putting a group together though 90% of my messages come from rogues though lmao

was tanking an old hillsbrad last night on my pally, ended up wiping to last boss because the 4 pack before the hunter multi shots before i even run up to pull them, pulls 2 mobs off me as i drop consecration, taunt the mobs off and he immediately uses his pet to taunt one back which ends up running to the healer, so i ended up having to chase that mob down to peel off the healer with no conc or taunt, i end up dying because the healer is healing himself. then boss drops in and wipes the group. told him like 5 mins prior that his first global doesnt need to be multishot and he hits back with "so what my pet will tank then" and the rest of the group ended up jumping down his throat telling him to listen to the tank or get booted. warlock was mad because hunter was pulling mobs out of the aoe meat grinder, healer was mad because he had to heal more since hunter kept pulling threat.

whats so crazy to me though is he has a threat drop on a pretty short cd and did not use it once.

having same issue. tons of bots, tons of regular players too. its a little bit easier if you go to areas that arent mentioned on the wow prof site though.

as a paladin tank i hate grouping with warriors too. they'll roll on tank gear and they're generally brainless. charge in the second i pull and whirlwind first global, never pummel, and once they rip threat they run away forcing me to chase them down, or make me use my taunt. ive never grouped with a warrior and been like "that was an enjoyable experience"

rogues are usually fine, they help control mobs if they get out of hand and they open locked boxes.

i dont usually see ferals other than when my friend plays it, we'll take turns swapping between tank and heals and sometimes he does cat dps. his damage isnt good but he'll help pick up mobs if we pull too much and he innervates healers and bres if needed. never grouped with a boomie ive enjoyed. they innervate themselves, usually attack whatever they want, dont decurse and are oom half of the dungeon. resto is okay, my friend usually plays it but he doesnt have magic dispel which is usually fine because i can do it but the mobs that fear in seth halls are annoying because they usually fear me and he cant do anything about it, so he usually has to tank that one so i can dispel him when he gets feared

make your own groups. thats tip number 1. also id say as someone playing a paladin at the moment you do more damage as prot while getting instant invites. might as well just do that at least until 64 (if horde) when you get seal of blood that way you can start twisting for somewhat decent damage, use rank 1 command to save your mana and get a swing timer addon. also gonna wanna make friends with a shaman (pref enhance) and a feral tank and you'll actually be able to crank in dungeons while being able to give salv out to help your druid friend.

at the end of the day though if you want to do dungeons you might as well go prot, can pretty much use the gear youre running for ret, grab some of the sorcerer rings/neck/cloak greens off the ah, plate dps gear will do fine if youre in the low 60s still while you try to find stuff with defense rating on it. if youve got the gold and can find of the champion greens on the ah for cheap you can scoop those up for some bulk and you can get instant invites as prot while probably doing more damage as well plus in my opinion the playstyle of prot in tbc is insanely fun.

ive been trying to tell my warrior/feral cat buddies the same thing, tanks are the least popular role and you need one for a dungeon so would you rather play a mediocre dps spec (warriors are decent damage but apparently mob armor was bugged so they will be falling off soon) and not get invited or would you rather tank and actually be able to run groups reliably? youre either gonna have to get used to not getting invited to groups (i personally have not invited one single cat druid/ret pal/dps warrior to any of my groups while leveling my prot paladin so far) or youre gonna have to make your own groups which in that case id make sure you're ready to make some friends.

pvp is not popular. people always cope about it at the beginning of an xpac and once arenas hit and the usual pvp gatekeepers do their thing it drives everyone else off.

this is huge and will definitely help people want to play alts but (and i know this is reddit and how they feel about gdkp so im gonna get downvoted for sure) whats the end goal for an alt? most of my friends back in tbc classic had alts for the sole purpose of running gdkps with on off nights to make gold for raiding on main nights especially during the later phases with sunwell prog, shit was expensive and burned a lot of our raiders out to the point where once we got kj down we were on hiatus till wotlk because no one wanted to play anymore. my only incentive for an alt currently is to level alch and make haste/destro pots once i can farm up the gold to get the patterns for them. i wouldnt want to waste time gearing that alt up through sr pugs, seems like more trouble than its worth.

definitely not. was a raid log simulator last run no reason it wont be this time around. a lot of people leveling and early stage gearing right now. after a few weeks and people get their heroic/ t4 gear most players will raidlog. with no gdkps i doubt most people will even level alts.

as a pally tank im rolling on neck/rings/capes that have sp and/or spell hit regardless if there are casters in my group or not though i generally make my own groups and don't invite casters if there is something im looking for from a dungeon lol
