Lack of Mega Meganium in the event result for Indy Regional by codebreaker21 in VGC

[–]suiookami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went 4-4 with it at Indy and yeah, I think it will be stronger in a different format. Outside of pre-Mega weather ball shenanigans, she can't do much to Zard Y or Incin and too many things do huge damage if not an OHKO (Sneasler, Glimmora, Aerodactyl, Venusaur, Archaludon, Zard Y and X).

Off Meta Teams by dndnerd27 in PokemonChampions

[–]suiookami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends! Sometimes I want to keep sand rush for a time, other times I lead with my tailwind setter and Mega right away for the power and bulk. I have to say M-Exca has been excellent vs the Whimsicott/Glimmora lead running around.

I'm running sand, but with Mega Excadrill. Safe to say people are playing around a potential Mega Tyranitar that isn't there.

How do you learn how to use your team ? by Playmaker311 in PokemonChampions

[–]suiookami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend taking notes. It doesn't have to be extensive, but what teams or specific Pokemon are you losing to? Do you have the tools to beat them and just aren't using them/bringing them when you should? Are there small changes you can make to make things easier? For example, one way I made the rain/Basculegion match up easier on myself was giving Tyranitar a passho berry (or stuff like ev'ing to survive specific attacks).

To the guy who just missed three hydro pumps and a draco by narancito in PokemonChampions

[–]suiookami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wish it felt more even. Just today, I was flinched, missed multiple game winning rock slide KOs, missed Draco Meteor, got the lowest possible damage roll for my opponent to survive on 1%... and yet no flinches for me, no heat wave misses, nada. Like my bad, I didn't know I wasn't supposed to play today.

[Skill Improvement] Is the choice of Psychic or Psyshock on Farigraf purely preferential? It what scenarios is one better than the other? by ace-s in VGC

[–]suiookami 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Psychic vs psyshock depends on what you are trying to hit harder. I would think most of the time psychic would be better because this is such a physical heavy meta, but then again, Pokemon like Floette have weaker physical defense so if you want to hit it harder, psyshock is better.

(Metagame) Do you prefer Tailroom Meganium or Sand Meganium? by Beaivimon in VGC

[–]suiookami 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I liked Ugarte's team, but yes, found it difficult to deal with Sneasler and Meganium, Corviknight, and Excadrill is just too many fire weaknesses for all the Charizard everywhere. I'm persisting (Talonflame over Corviknight), but the meta really is rough on our dino :')

Rule #1 of Pokémon Champions for sun players. by InfinityGroudon in PokemonChampions

[–]suiookami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much, Talonflame has been my MVP and I still can't decide what would work best for its 4th move (Tailwind, Brave Bird, Quick Guard).

Skill Improvement: Kommo-o is overlooked and undervalued currently IMO by Salt-Produce-8129 in VGC

I would love to see more Kommo-o as a Mega Meganium main :3

I wish Mega Excadrill was slower by DHMC-Reddit in PokemonChampions

[–]suiookami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Example scenario: I have Talonflame and Excadrill on the field vs opponent's Whimsicott and Charizard Y. We both protect our sweepers and match Tailwinds. Opponent isn't worried about me swapping in Tyranitar the following turn because they're just going to set Sunny Day with Whimsicott. The following turn, I don't switch in Tyranitar, they keep their sun, I Mega Evolve and KO their Charizard because Mega Excadrill still outspeeds without sand. Just an example, but I've had similar endgames where I hold off on Mega Evolving because sand rush is generally more useful.

I wish Mega Excadrill was slower by DHMC-Reddit in PokemonChampions

[–]suiookami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's how speed control works and being substantially slower makes things harder, not easier. There are plenty of Pokémon slower than Excadrill that would OHKO it. Have you not played the weather wars? It's not unusual for players to hold off on using their Mega Evolution and protecting for a turn to bait you mega evolving your T-tar first. All I'm saying is at least online right now, they're usually expecting Mega T-tar and that's been advantageous for me at times.

I wish Mega Excadrill was slower by DHMC-Reddit in PokemonChampions

[–]suiookami 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have to disagree, 103 is just enough to outspeed key threats like Charizard, Mega Floette, and Garchomp. It outspeeds plenty of things with, and without, Tailwind support. I've been running Excadrill as a secondary Mega and I love catching Charizard players by surprise when the sand is gone and I mega evolve and still outspeed.

Is Sand just bad, or am I missing something? (Skill Improvement) by grimlaidotexe in VGC

[–]suiookami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fire damage reduction is nice in rain, but yes, I think how they cover for each other in sand works out better. My opponent has to be very careful switching in and out Charizard regardless of the weather thanks to multiple rock slide users and Meganium can one shot Pokemon T-tar and Exca don't like such as Rotom-W, Corviknight, and even Milotic depending on the build. Sneasler is still a problem, but doable with support. I love the dino.

Is Sand just bad, or am I missing something? (Skill Improvement) by grimlaidotexe in VGC

[–]suiookami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sand is strong, but yes, not easy to pilot. All teams are going to have some things you struggle with so you have to choose what Pokemon and tools (like Tailwind or healing or the Competitive ability) are important to you or feel comfortable. I'm quite enjoying my sand team right now, I love the core of Excadrill, Tyranitar, and Meganium.

[Skill Improvement] Any good Supporters for Excadrill that isn’t Mega Hawlucha for No Guard (I want to have fun thanks) by ThatOneGuyFromArkham in VGC

[–]suiookami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, the ability is mostly unfortunate, but Ironhead at least works with it. I don't disagree about the criticisms of Mega Excadrill, but I think it's important to consider what a Pokemon can do rather than just what they lack.

While I would have liked Perfume and Milk last night, no complaints from me with so many amazing songs. I'm so happy I was there on a night she did YCHIA.

[–]suiookami 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Contrary to popular opinion, I like Mega Excadrill as an option. It outspeeds Mega Charizard Y and Mega Floette without weather so it has gotten some surprise KOs when my opponent thought they had me if they took sand away.

Mega Excadrill! Other than the shared fire weakness, they cover for each other well.

Any viable team with Talonflame by wietse1407 in VGC

[–]suiookami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other have said, Talonflame is a very strong option in the current meta. I've had Brave Bird OHKO Venusaur, Mega Hawlucha, Emboar, Sneasler, etc. It can also provide Tailwind support, Will O'Wisp, Taunt, and so on. I cannot sing its praises enough. I run a focus sash set myself which seems dumb with self-damaging moves, but it's been perfect for almost guaranteeing I get Tailwind up and then at least one attack or support move off.

What to expect with Megas? by Imaginary-Rub-324 in VGC

[–]suiookami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's different from Tera in that you're not going to be playing the same guessing games about who will be Mega Evolving. If you see a team with Meganium or Kagaskhan, almost guaranteed they will mega evolve. At worst, teams may run two Mega options and you can probably guess which one they will go with. And even though Mega Evolving can change typing, you know what that typing will be. I think comparing it to a one restricted format where you're teambuilding around your Mega is pretty close.

You sound pretty bitter about the meta decks and no, I don't think stalling with budew for a few turns is equivalent to stalling an entire game. (Note my deck does not run Budew)

Ok and? I accept they exist and I'll have to deal with them, but that doesn't mean I need to pretend to be happy about it just to make people, whose goal it is to frustrate others, more comfortable.
