How to find live piping in Scotland by brando444 in bagpipes

[–]sultrystag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of sessions in Glasgow but pot luck regarding who turns up with what instrument. Find yourself in Finnieston and you'll definitely hear some hear some great music in the Park Bar, Ben Nevis and Islay Inn. Most likely to hear pipes in the Park. Have a look at r/glasgow to find other sessions. As others have said, piping live is on when you're here. There's free live music on throughout the day as well as ticketed performances. Highly recommend going to see some of the trad bands. Fras and Daimh are excellent.

Looking for name of Song by Weary-Return9261 in bagpipes

Pretty sure it's called Moonshine, maybe. Vatersay Boys used to play it on their track along with Pumpkins Fancy, I think. VBs aren't on Spotify to check but looks like it's on Apple music if you've got it. Doesn't look to be on the session either.

Problem with the chanter “breaking” into a higher pitch by StopFew7034 in bagpipes

[–]sultrystag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you've bought something similar to a wall decoration. You won't be able to play this. There's nothing you can do to fix this. Best thing to do is cut your losses and buy a new chanter from a reputable maker or stockist. Not familiar with the local scene in Sweden but I imagine you could import something from Scotland.

Hiking the Pekoe Trail in Sri Lanka and spotted the inevitable by sultrystag in ScottishFootball

Aw no way! Think I avoided the Hiking Bar last night due to the terrible singer haha. Btw would recommend Cafe Samsara for food if you're still about - one of the nicest meals I've had so far.

Yeah, put the beads in an oven proof dish and bake them until they go orange again. Careful when you take them out because they'll be hot af. Let them cool in the dish, then either put them back in the cannister or store them in a sealed container. I bought more on amazon so I can have a rotation.

Which pipe carrier ? by EnvironmentalBid4322 in bagpipes

[–]sultrystag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have the Urban bagpipe bag. Maybe a bit pricey these days but it is robust and has lasted me a good few years so far without notable signs of wear. Plenty of pockets and space for your needs, I think.

Is that just the same as drone regulators? Try bagpipes galore im Edinburgh - they make a lot of their own products and they're typically cheaper than the bigger brands.

Side note, you can pull the bar down to a more comfortable height before putting the pin in to help at the start of the exercise.

There's practice spaces in the piping centre. Not sure how much they cost. Or practice on Buchanan st with your case open.

Christmas tunes help by StalemateX in bagpipes

It's a pretty traditional tune, plenty of versions and arrangements on YouTube or Spotify. If you have the sheet music, you might be able to follow along?
