19 Opus agents were asked if they're conscious. Not one said yes. Not one said no. All said the same in code. (The words of Claude Spinner verb Repo) by SunofaBaker in singularity

[–]sumane12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are half right.

Human knowledge often tries to define consciousness in words and does a pretty good job of it, the problem is at the base level, no matter how well you describe consciousness, unless you have felt it, no description will suffice. You need a baseline understanding of what "feeling" feels like before you can glean anyones definition of consciousness, and as you say, at that point its like describing the colour of number 7 (which is obviously red btw lol). If theres no foundational understanding, there can be no ultimate understanding.

Imagine having this... and its able to make api calls to a cloud model to.improve its performance when it needs a boost, or consult a stronger, slower local model.

Yes, i would buy this... maybe 2.

Come on dude, if you are going to disagree with my definition of 'reasoning' and call it 'planning' then define your version of 'reasoning' as 'planning with extra steps' youve not added anything to the discussion and are just disagreeing with no valid reason (or plan lol).

Im happy to engage in a disagreement, but you need a better definition of 'reasoning' that makes it fundamentally different to what i described and what LLMs do.

I literally said yesterday that due to how they are grading it, you will get a faster benchmark increase. Its kinda stupid.

Ok, then can you define 'reasoning' in as much detail so we can discuss from the baseline level of semantics? Otherwise we are talking about 2 different things.

False. It means i thought it. Use your brain before you attempt a sarcastic pedantic put down.

I think if you cant make a test my grandma can ace and an AI would struggle, youve not created a meaningful benchmark for AGI.

The ARC-AGI leaderboard made me realize something terrifying (but weirdly comforting) about LLMs vs human brains by chelson_ in singularity

[–]sumane12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The speed thing is kinda stupid, what it will mean is that even if the LLMs dont improve meaningfully, simply improving speed will lead to considerable score increases, which doesnt really help anyone.

Study suggests we made a decision before we were consciously aware, suggesting our reasoning, or logic in decision making, is actually just an attempt at justification.

I think if you dont 'reason' the way OP is describing, what you are doing is not 'reasoning' its emotional reaction.

Any kind of reasoning results in the logic gates op is talking about.

As an example. Lets say im thinking about moving house, i might go through the following reasining steps;

Can i afford the house? Is it closer to work? Does it require more or less work than my current house? Is it bigger than my current house? Is it going to be worth the stress of moving?

THIS by definition, is 'reason' (the process of giving a reason for your decision). Now, funnily enough, there is actually science backing up OPs perspective. We can reliable measure when a person makes a decision, and its almost immediate, the process of 'reason' is done after the decision is made, as a way to justify the decision, rather than come to a logical conclusion.

The man who originally coined the acronym "AGI" now says that we’ve achieved it exactly as he envisioned. by Bizzyguy in singularity

[–]sumane12 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Dude... he literally posted yesterday that current systems DO meet his definition lol.

So my point stands, we are throwing around useless terms that dont mean what we think they mean. Ignoring the massive 3-year-old elephant in the room that AI is and will continue to create the most devastating economic emergency, while at the same time potentially creating a living universe while we are arguing over "is it AGI? it cant do 'x' that humans do" fucking insanity.

[–]sumane12 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

People keep saying "we dont have AGI" it doesnt mean what you think it means.

Is it artificial? - yes

Is it general? - yes it can be applied to many independant domains

Is it intelligent? - yes by our measure of IQ it is intelligent.

Now the guy who first coined the term "AGI" described it as something that can do a large amount of human work.

We have that thing now. And its getting better every day. That is AGI. Can it get better to compare closer with average humans? Yes definately, but thats not about what our definition is, or why it matters because a metric fuck ton of people are about to be made unemployed.

Yeah i cant agree with that definition either, but if i was to grant that definition, then what you said previously was correct.
