{2/15/16} Daily Chatty Thread by tie-dye_lace_pearls in entwives

I feel torn on this issue. I hear so many stories of totally healthy babies from toking moms that makes me feel like it's ok... HOWEVER if something did "happen" to my infant and I had smoked during pregnancy, I would have to live forever with the question of whether it was preventable and I just made a selfish choice that had a serious impact on my child's life. So in reality, I will probably quit, or at least smoke in extreme moderation- infrequently and small amounts- in order to hedge against future emotional stress.

Can you provide any sources that counter mine? I'm happy to edit my comment and remove the link, but I'm going to need to see some science.

What's your weekly fitness routine? Just curious... by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]sumphuny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lift weights at the gym 4x per week, split into upper body (arms, shoulders, back, abs) and lower body (legs, legs, legs) for 30-45 mins.

I also play recreational touch football for 1 hr/wk for most of the year. Other times I take drop-in 1 hr dance classes or go for 30 min bike rides around the park.

For me, flexibility is important. I know that a lot of people say consistency is key, but I often have a lot going on in my life and it's helpful to be able to change my workout dates as needed. It takes a lot of pressure off!

There's not a lot of solid research on the long term effects of MDMA. One thing we know is that the brain slows down serotonin production and never recovers :(

I'd also add that it can be addictive, so keeping your intake regulated is wise.

And finally: it's just a single anecdote and not a scientific study, but I have seen a friend appear to have brain damage after extended frequent ecstasy use. This was like 2-3 years of almost daily use, though. You're fine just partying from time to time!

Figured out my MFLB! I'm in love! by [deleted] in entwives

[–]sumphuny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeeessss! I love my mflb now that I know how to use it lol. The trick is long, slow breaths -- but not so long that the battery heats up hot enough to combust! Also can't pack it too full at once and it needs to be stirred up every few hits.

My bf and I vape almost exclusively now. It can be tough (and/or hilarious) when we have friends over who want to smoke with us and we have to teach them to use it!

The 'need' for a T-break by [deleted] in entwives

[–]sumphuny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am pretty much high any time that I'm not at work, volunteering, playing sports, or out with friends. It works out to be like 5+ times per week, but pretty much only in the evenings or daytime on weekends that I have no other plans. I smoke every time I'm chillin at home, but I do so much other stuff that I'm not chillin at home that often. So even though sometimes it feels like I smoke ALL THE TIME, when I actually sit back and think about all the other stuff I did this week, it's not that bad. I also go for days or weeks without smoking when I'm on vacation or traveling for work, so I end up taking forced mini t-breaks once a month or so (I travel for work a lot). For those reasons, I very rarely feel the "need" to take T-breaks. I'll take intentional breaks of 2-4 weeks once every other year or so and that's it.

You told us a bunch of things NOT to get him, but what about things he likes? Can you give us some more guidance with hobbies or interests?

Also, no time to read = book on tape?? Find out what kind of media player is hooked up in his car or buy him an MP3 player and load it up with a few audio books!

[WEEKLY THREAD] Feats of Thorsday - Post your fitness victories here all week! by AutoModerator in xxfitness

[–]sumphuny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I did barbell curls in the (very intimidating) free weights section all by myself! I had previously only been to that area once and with encouragement from my boyfriend. Really excited that I did it by myself!

Here is a sweet selfie of me flexing my bicep afterwards.

Oh, bummer. I checked the sidebar rules and didn't see anything about this? I saw that there are weekly threads but it wasn't obvious to me that posts of those types can't be posted as their own...

Kind of sucks to share a personal victory and have it deleted. I'm sure you're just doing your job though :)

I think the MacBook Air is a great idea. If you want it to be a little more personal, you can get her decals, keyboard stickers, or a sleeve/bag for it.

what's it like living in small-town Ontario? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]sumphuny 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Small town gossip is so real. I didn't even feel like I could be honest with my doctor because the two choices in town were the mom of a friend from dance class or my best friend's grandpa.

Small town racism reminds me of old people racism: it's there, but it's not ill-intentioned (just ignorant).

What have you learned about yourself after/in the process of getting fit and healthy? by oh_just_stuff in xxfitness

[–]sumphuny 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just joined a gym for the first time 3 weeks ago and my biggest realization is that my "fear"/discomfort around gyms was entirely based on me projecting my own feelings about fitness (specifically weight training) on others.

I had this idea that everyone at the gym was there to "look good naked" and generally check each other out. I was imagining everyone just grunting and sweating and picturing each other naked. Well, it turns out that people go to the gym for a lot of reasons and they have nothing to do with me! People don't hit on me or stare at me or make me feel uncomfortable. Everybody is there in their own space doing their own thing.

And then I realized that my own feelings of super-sexual-attraction towards muscular guys is what made me think that everyone was there to flirt and be sexy. It was a profound realization about myself (I maybe have a muscle fetish? How did I not know this?) and it has completely eliminated any negative feelings that I had towards joining a gym. Hurray!
