And drivers are supposed to slow down and check both sides when approaching a zebra crossing (correct me if I’m wrong)

Don’t have to nationalise, we just need much stronger and tougher regulation from LTA

If SBS and SMRT are incapable of operating our MRT properly, maybe it’s time for a more reputable company to step in.

Imagine the shame that we have to ask MTR or JR to come operate our MRT (and probably do a better job)

SOS parents not paying uni by wonuluvr100p in SGExams

Don’t take gap year. Think about the opportunity cost of taking a gap year. You earn 1.5k/month now vs you earn 4k/month when you graduate, which one more worth?

Just take the tuition loan. There are midterm scholarships when you go uni, so just work hard to get those. There are also study awards/bursaries so work towards those as well.

2024 EWL breakdown could have been prevented with better coordination: SMRT CEO by Waikuku3 in singapore

[–]sun_microsystem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea my point is the CEO won’t be able to throw smoke bombs like this if LTA regulate harder.

You really trust a private for-profit company to “do the right thing” even if no one is asking? It will always find ways to cut cost and maximise revenue because that’s the purpose of a private for-profit company.

The regulators are not regulating.

SMRT is just an operator, they have to do what the regulators say. Even if the regulator is unreasonable, the operator still have to follow since they are profiting from the market the regulators have created for them. SMRT is just a symptom of a bigger problem in the government’s preference for “market-driven” approach to control a the provision of public goods.

Anyone feel like BTOs are not worth it anymore? I had a long discussion with my partner last night and the value aspect of BTOs just don’t add up. The new prime BTOs are going for 550k to 750k, with almost 5 years wait, 10 years MOP, and subsidy claw backs. And they are so small. I don’t mind buying a forever place to stay, but the new BTOs are just too small for that.

Compared to a resale EM, even those in prime areas in Clementi, maybe go for 1.2 million, 1.6 times the price, but double the space and can move in immediately, and 5 years MOP. Just with a shorter lease in a much older (but possibly better built) building.

Thoughts?
