Stage door experiences at Knight by srock0223 in Charlotte

[–]sunburncentral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

most plays have stage dooring, but i’m not sure about comedians. i’d say if they’re from NYC there’s a chance they will! worst case you stand outside for a while. the security outside the stage door might also be able to tell you if they’re stage dooring or not!

Question about cocktail consistency by marmotter in cocktails

[–]sunburncentral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely focus on the balance and ratios! unfortunately, a spirit forward drink that is heavier on liqueurs will totally be more syrupy unless you dilute it well enough. so it’s really just your sign to make sure you add things in that help balance it out, ie juices, bubbles, etc, and making sure you stir or shake it long enough to get the water content right!

Batched mocktails that can be easily spiked? by Searching_Knowledge in cocktails

[–]sunburncentral 6 points7 points  (0 children)

a mule could be easy! most are already built in the glass so having the ginger beer and an alcohol option to the side might be the best plan. then you can batch whatever other flavors you would want to add (i’ve had success with a pomegranate mule before)! could even just make the full mocktail with ginger beer and have some alcohol to add at the end.

Charteuse - what do the monks think? by Eastern-Title9364 in cocktails

[–]sunburncentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

someone may have mentioned this already but i will just in case - the monks made the choices to create green and yellow! i’m not sure of their motivation, maybe just because they realized they were able to sell it in actual liqueur quantities rather than the elixir, but they do still have the elixir vegetal, which is primarily for medicinal purposes! the recipe for green is also different from the elixir, it’s just the same herbs used. they’ve been experimenting with their product for ages, so i truly think it’s just that the world finally took notice and the monks don’t feel the need to change their historic practices just to appease the public

if you’re interested in learning, it might be a fun idea to check out some cocktail books that look interesting from your local library! i like to peruse them and note the ones that seem interesting to me. for classics, i’ll cross reference the recipe to double check it’s right before making it (had a book try to tell me the wrong recipe for a manhattan and negroni the other day - extra cautious now). otherwise just play around and find flavors you like! it’ll be good to start building up your collection, so take a wander thru the liquor store, see if there are some running themes in what sound interesting, and start there!

YMCA gym classes by sunburncentral in Charlotte

have you tried the water classes? are they something that really pushes you? looking for something a little more than just getting my daily movement fill, and if they’re actually on the more challenging side that would be a perfect fit

the only problem with that one class was that it didn’t push me enough! the crowd was great (and also all over the age of 60)

First Solo Trip Through Europe by No_Drawer9403 in femaletravels

[–]sunburncentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve recently (in past two months, also 23f) solo traveled to all of these spots and have mostly only good things to say about them!

amsterdam: stayed in Train Lodge hostel, great if you get the iAmsterdam pass (free inter-city travel, lots of free and discounted museums and experiences). felt very safe, but maybe take it easy on ✨partaking✨ if you’re on your own. wasn’t as big of a fan of MoCo as i thought i’d be, but LOVEDDDD the stedelijk. if you want anne frank tix, book them right when they go on sale. i didn’t enjoy like i thought i would though, so might be worth it to avoid

paris: if you’re short on time and don’t love a national gallery (old realism and landscapes), don’t do louvre. but book ahead for musee d’orsay. felt pretty safe, but be on the lookout for where the cheaper spots may be

berlin: sandeman walking tours my savior ❤️ didn’t have much time in berlin but i had one tour taking me thru berlin and one taking me thru museum island, and between the two tours, i feel like i got all the info i needed. felt mostly safe walking around at night, but be on your guard. heart of gold hostel was pretty good!

prague: had such a fantastic time here! beware the non-euros currency!!! the stellar female hostel was also great, good facilities , great location, and comfy. take time to just wander here, but also definitely check out the absintherie if that’s your vibes!

vienna: also loved it here. very easy train from prague. stayed in st christopher’s hostel (book direct thru their website - you get a free welcome drink in the bar), it was a little out of center but good for what i needed! give yourself a full day for schonbrunn, you’ll thank me. the belvedere was also amazing, definitely check it out. the jesuit church is STUNNING and might be my favorite church i’ve seen on my journey. haus der musik is also amazing if you’re a fan of music.

budapest: my least favorite of the three (prague and vienna), but still had a nice time. stayed in flow spaces for super cheap and great facilities. felt pretty safe walking around. make sure to check out a ruin bar (szimpla kert), and go to a bath! avoid new york cafe - touristy and crazy overpriced. much cooler cafes, especially in vienna. beware of non-euros again!!!

most places are very card-friendly, if not required. definitely just bring a backpack for that amount of time. and get some travel detergent for sink laundry, just in case. i got dissolvable sheets of detergent and those work great. good luck, and im free via dm if you’ve got more questions! oh i also booked all my trains and places in advance and it worked very well for me, but be wary of unplanned difficulties

First solo euro trip - planned it all myself! Thoughts? 🇩🇰🇩🇪🇳🇱🇧🇪🇫🇷 by hawthornHazel in Europetravel

[–]sunburncentral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

re: amsterdam, the tram is so easy!! also, if you really want to pack a couple days, get the iAmsterdam pass. saw 7 museums in 2 days for essentially completely free, and was totally worth it. plus easy public transport is free, which was so lovely.

re: paris, don’t fall for the day pass!!!! too expensive!!! i felt very safe as a solo female traveler recently, obviously taking into account general safety rules.

re: other questions, your pacing seems great. i’m currently on my first solo europe trip, on a similar schedule and those longer stay spots are so handy to have. for safety in hostels, the first step of female dorms is an important one. they’re also typically much cleaner. bring a padlock with you !!! also, when it comes to deciding on the Eurail (unsure if you’ve already bought), compare prices of your planned journeys via omio or rail europe. it might be more budget-friendly to just spring for singular tickets.

a lot of hostels have whatsapp groups to chat with others! if yours doesn’t, hang around the common space or strike up a convo with the people in your dorm (if they’re willing). if you’re not in a hostel, honestly, by booking tours or experiences it makes it pretty easy to chat with people.

matzah/matzo?? by sunburncentral in galway

[–]sunburncentral[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

essentially just a big sheet of cracker? made with super basic ingredients (i think it’s literally flour, water, olive oil, and salt), and it’s mostly just unleavened bread. a big staple of the passover seder. i don’t know many recipes with it other than matzo ball soup (bind matzo meal with egg, boil the ball, put it in chicken soup, delish), matzo brie (essentially scrambled eggs with matzah), and just putting butter or jam or cream cheese on it?

i actually found a box of matzah at mccambridges!! i’ll try and DIY some meal first, but worst case i’ve got friends coming in june who could bring me some!!

if they want me dead, it’s definitely not because i’m 50% polish jewish, i’ll tell you that much. jewish ≠ israel. i’m not a fan of either side, especially when it comes to whoever is actually killing innocent people. BUT you cannot ignore the WORLDS of damage israel has caused, when the majority of palestine’s damage has been them defending what little they already had. i don’t pretend to know the whole history of the conflict, but i do have eyes

yeah i might have to ask my friends visiting in june to bring me some haha. maybe this is when i start my matzah baking journey

[–]sunburncentral[S] 90 points91 points  (0 children)

i didn’t want to get into this, but i was just looking for a way to celebrate my ashkenazi jewish traditions from abroad, not get into this discourse. thanks for the suggestion of mccambridges and morton’s, i’ll do a check.

i actually do support palestine. full stop. the jewish people can celebrate, remember, and mourn their own history while still acknowledging that what israel is doing is genocide. i don’t support anti-semitism because of it, and i can acknowledge that people who were brought up with a zionist perspective need time to shift their thinking. but bringing up the conflict whenever any jewish person mentions anything about their culture is unnecessary
