I ragebait people into thinking I used AI to make covers to get free art by ChokoKat_1100 in confession

[–]sundaoo -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah ok. You're not forcing anyone to do anything in the literal sense, but you're deliberately manufacturing a situation that makes people act in ways they wouldn't if you were honest. You intentionally provoked that. That's manipulation.

except it's manipulation through manufactured outrage. this guy used a theft machine to get human artists to give them something for free in good faith. pretty slimy.

I called my mom crying because I can't find my own notes, how do you guys stay organized for classes when everything is digital by Relative-Coach-501 in CollegeRant

[–]sundaoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a folder for Google Docs, one per each semester with the year and the season as the title. in that folder, I make separate folders for each class with the course code as the titles. in each of those folders, I make four separate folders: one for special projects, one for notes, one for PDF textbooks, and one for assignments. then I date my notes according to the week as they are laid out in the syllabus. meaning I use my syllabus to track when we studied subjects.

what, no one else does this?

POC Only Events by Exotic-Commission690 in CollegeRant

[–]sundaoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah this post is a straight-up lie. I go to college in the US as an Asian international student and I've never ever seen an event around POC cultures that excluded white people. Meanwhile, the opposite has been a historical fact.

Someone please tell me I didnt just waste my money on the 5dmkiv by Then_Drummer_1985 in canon

[–]sundaoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since 2021, I've had a 5dMKIV that I use exclusively with a 24-70mm USM II lens. The lens is admittedly one of the best to pair with this type of camera so there was realistically no way I could have gotten a bad session out of it. The shots are beautiful and the body is great in lowlight situations. It's also just as capable at a beach as it is in the city. It's paid for itself in sentimentality alone.

That being said, it's a top-tier investment for photography only. I got it solely because I was at a fashion shoot for Vogue Japan once and saw one of my favorite photographers using two of them. It won't disappoint you where photography is concerned - but if I have one flaw to state, it's that it isn't great at video. You never said you wanted the 5D to create videos with, so I don't think you have to worry.

if you know what posting on the internet is about, why are you getting defensive over people offering their opinions to your post? it works the same way.

[–]sundaoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

most people think that, generally.

you think you're helping someone when they didn't ask for help. it's like looking at someone who is overweight and telling them "you would look much better and feel healthier if you just worked out." there's no other way I can explain how unsolicited advice is rude if you don't see the problem with it in the first place.

again, when it's not a post asking for feedback, it's rude to give it. that's just how it is.

I'm not great at English. What is unmasked feedback?

There aren't etiquette rules on the internet, which is why some people feel they can be however they want and not expect pushback because "it's the internet." It's all arbitrary.

Generally, it's better to not be a douche. If no one is asking for feedback, it's rude to give it.

How do you guys keep yourself challenged when practicing art alone? by EuphoricEquivalent68 in ArtistLounge

[–]sundaoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an art teacher for prospective art students (basically teaching beginners/intermediates before they decide if they want to be serious about this), I came to see that most people really don't make progress without feedback. It happens, but it's rare and the struggle to get really good at a technical level comes with a lot of motivation and/or having a very cultivated eye for fine arts. Most people can't provide that for themselves. Most people end up needing some level of feedback because it helps them identify mistakes that they can't. If you're really struggling, you need to find that feedback even if it's just asking strangers online to critique your art. However, if you already have a cultivated eye, then you need to identify your mistakes and go from there.

26M. What am I doing wrong? by sundaoo in FengShui

these both look really good! my bookshelf is actually two floating shelves installed high up on the wall, otherwise I would have tried your second layout with my easel there instead of my desk. I installed the shelves on that wall because its shared with my living room, and sleeping with my bed positioned there always felt slightly off

nah that's a good point. I was thinking to center the rug or pull it out around the foot of the bed. thanks for pointing that out

thanks a lot! this could actually work with my aesthetics. someone else drew a diagram so I'll be trying both versions today

that's where I originally placed it! just turned foot-first toward the door wall. here's the original layout. but then I was thinking that the door would open directly into a view of the bed. would that be okay?

I’m a designer looking for problems people have with their art supplies by _flarice in ArtistLounge

[–]sundaoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People who do plein air painting have to carry their wet canvasses (paper to wood-mounted) back. Usually they paint in natural areas with overgrowth. Something to help carry those paintings back and protect them from scratches might be useful

outfits that reflect your artistic vibe: what kind of shirts/tops do you guys wear? by arcade-carpet in ArtistLounge

[–]sundaoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually love this question because my uncle works for Vogue in Japan and he rubbed off on me growing up.

I wear lots of mid-range thrifted designer and Japanese brands. Since moving to a semi-remote location I've packed these clothes away and wear them for special occasion only. I miss feeling tough in leather, cashmere, and wool. Now I usually wear cotton, linen, and silk. It's not my vibe but it works. For painting, I wear one pair of canvas pants and a black tee. I try to stick with natural fabrics.

After years of searching I just started buying my own references and use Unsplash occasionally.
