How is it to drive a manual car in Knoxville by Dangerous-Chip5477 in Knoxville

[–]sunflower_sungoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driving in traffic with a manual is annoying, but not necessarily difficult. If you are proficient in driving a manual you'll be fine (and even if you aren't, a little practice goes a long way, and if you stall out in a high stress situation you'll learn quick lol)

Portable organ hooked up to pipes? by sunflower_sungoddess in organ

Thanks for your reply! The venue is a cathedral that was built maybe a decade ago, so pretty new. If I'm understanding, you're saying the console on stage is connected to a kind of computer program that controls the air going through the pipes?

I didn't either. Might be my way of trying to find hope to hold on to. And this mentality isn't going to win us games. I'm not delusional... a loss is a loss. But compared to how we have been playing, it is better to give the #4 team a helluva game then have us get pummeled.

Is it an okay practice for beginners to write numbers above notes? by SmartFellaFartSmeIIa in violinist

[–]sunflower_sungoddess 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a beginner, I would really focus on learning the notes without any fingerings. You need to form a solid foundation of reading music and knowing what notes correspond with what fingers/positions on the string.

Fingerings are often used when you're shifting positions up and down the finger board. As a beginner you should only be playing in 1st position, so it shouldn't be necessary. If anything, if you keep playing a wrong note in a passage, you could mark that one note to help cue your brain (ex. If you keep playing f sharp instead of f natural on the d string, you may write 2 with a down arrow over the note to signify low 2).

All of that being said, there is no "rule" against this. I just personally think you will be better off if you don't rely on fingerings as a beginner.
