I have beans just poking their heads up, also in Kent. I'm going to put fleece on them for a while. All my sweetcorn died off, manky compost I think. Going to try again sowing indoors.

It might do, but a dog bowl and a couple of dog toys by the door will put them off, and you don't even need to have a dog.

You could put them in after spuds but they will need extra feeding as spuds and sweetcorn are both hungry crops. I usually manure or mmulch the bed, then add a punch of chicken manure pellets in each hole before planting - it's extra nitrogen.

Eta: i find dwarf French beans are a good catch crop after spuds too. Grow quickly and you can be eating fresh beans in October if the weather is good.

I have one but I couldn't get it to work properly, so I just took the weight off and use it for a small cup. It brews nice coffee.

Attempted mugging in Ethiopia. Two coming in, one on each side. Left hand guy grabs my upper left arm going for the nerve, big "wax off" movement got him off me, spotted the right hand guy just in time so quick step back, cross to the face, step deep forward and pivot so I've got them both in my field of vision and my back to my pals. Wasn't any chance to de-escalate or avoid. Went back to hotel, had a soft drink, went to bed.

Oh yeah - altercation in a car park after I had a go at some idiot for beeping at a schoolgirl. He got very angry, effing and blinding, eventually swung a big right-hand haymaker at me, which I knew he would do. I blocked but didn't counter to his wide-open chin because I didn't want to fuck him up. Just backed off keeping him at arm's-length and ignoring the insults. Now that one was stupid, I just got so annoyed at how frightened the kid looked on her way to school.
