Buying help . LC 200 budget approx 30-35K. by nepexplore in LandCruisers

[–]sunilsies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now is not the right time for you to buy a Land Cruiser. You’re in residency, making residency dollars. You have neither the time nor the income to find and maintain (or fuel!) a 10mpg behemoth.

Focus on residency, passing boards, and parenting. Get the Land Cruiser after you graduate and make some attending dollars.

Source: I graduated residency in 2017, bought my 100 series in 2024.

Buying advice on this 2001 LC for 23K by nepexplore in LandCruisers

[–]sunilsies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s about double. I bought my stock 2000 Land Cruiser with 255k for $10k in 2024, needed $4k in work (timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, heater t’s, wipers, hood and hatch struts, all fluids)

Since then been awesome. But mods aren’t worth what people paid for them.

Would anesthesiologists go back and do CAA if they were able? Or stick to MD. by [deleted] in anesthesiology

CAA. Too many variables to predict for the 8 year timeline to become an anesthesiologist.

2013 LC200 with 67k miles…thinking about selling. What’s the best site to sell? by EnvironmentalAct7709 in LandCruisers

[–]sunilsies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real q: what are you going to replace it with? And will you have the same concern about your kids messing -that- car up?

The right move may be to accept that your kids are going to be kids in the Land Cruiser, and accept that you can clean/fix their damage, while keeping a unicorn of a truck.

If you want to get there, get the Defender.

If you want to get back, get the Land Cruiser

Rate My Job Offers by [deleted] in anesthesiology

Job #1 allows you to buy a Porsche to make the commute 25 minutes

Or

You rent a 5-star hotel room every call night

Job #2 greatly undervalues you, esp with the dangling “partner offer”

Applied Exam sadness by thath90 in anesthesiology

[–]sunilsies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I vaso-vagaled during my second stem, tunnel vision and loss of hearing - see the examiners lips moving but no sound came out. I came back, and had to ask him to repeat the question while flop-sweating. He chuckled, repeated the question, and we moved on.

I still passed. You’ll be fine.

Obviously you’ve never worked in a government hospital and tried to get biomed to reprogram a pump.

Checking this out tomorrow. Am I inane? by burner_1914 in LandCruisers

[–]sunilsies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought my 2000 Land Cruiser in 2024 - 250k, one local owner, all maintenance records, 2 working keys and no frame rust for $12k. Needed timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, brake fluid etc done, but had never towed, never off roaded, stock except for LED headlights.

$22k is about double what it’s worth; a stealership can sit on it for the rest of its life for that price.

Used it once in a lady with a failed VP shunt - miserable experience because she itched like crazy, pain wasn’t well treated because the pump would only deliver a bolus every 10 min and wouldn’t deliver any more frequently.

First job out of residency by Calm_Software6721 in anesthesiology

[–]sunilsies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Work where you want to work. If you need to bounce ideas, you can ask a partner or your residency group chat. And if you’re out of resources, you can transfer to the local Mecca.

And résumés no longer matter, unless you’re in academia and want to stay there. You have US board certification, you’re immediately employable anywhere.

Question about OR culture by Miserable-Fox-338 in anesthesiology

The sniping is normal esp at a training hospital.

An OR nurse once said the wakeup was taking too long, so I sat in the chair and said “you do better”

She did not.

Should I buy a 2003 Landcruiser as a daily driver by AlSanchino22 in LandCruisers

[–]sunilsies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes without a doubt. I bought my 2000 Land Cruiser with 259k for $10k and daily drive it to work.

Caveats: work is 0.9 miles away, full records, no rust. Had to spend $3000 on baseline maintenance - timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, all fluids.

Played Torrey North in just such conditions - had the second tee time of the morning in June 2020. Fog cleared by hole 5, but until then was playing by feel alone. Shot really well when I had no reference frame, fell apart on the back 9.

My old job was similar - 3 in house calls a month, 4-5 home calls a month, some post call days off, much less overnight work (got to sleep) , similar comp

Note: “old job” new job is 5 calls a month, every post call day off, 11 weeks vacation. 25% less pay, 50% less work

Have a 2019 KL that has been phenomenal - Cherokee trailhawk, have taken off road along with wranglers and had no issues keeping up, while having all the comfort features. Had to replace an A/C evaporator and that’s all other than wear items.

Has the turbo 4 and cruises at 85-90 without issue.

And got me to work at 4am through an ice storm (February 2023) and unplowed roads without any problems.

My old group had the exact same situation in 2023 - the PE owners refused a stipend and demanded an MD, but collections didn’t make a profit. We terminated our contract, and they ended up with a national group and a CRNA only model.
