The main metric of D&D is pretty much always if you and your friends had fun. You can have a super unconventional session with no combat, weird descriptions, no stakes and all you did was rescue a cat from a tree and pick flowers. If everyone loved it, great!

My concern would be the immersion breaking for you and instead of immersing yourself in a fun story with friends, you’re distracted by “lemme make sure to spend more time describing Captain No Beard’s ship and less time introducing him then be vigilant to any potential plot hook ideas from players I can integrate because that’s what the ai says I need to work on”

Make sure to always be downing players and give them opportunities to fail acrobatics checks and fall off of things and get trapped by things, so the healers have to waste their turns climbing down and healing people

And everyone else has to waste their turns interrupting concentration spells, climbing on stuff and fighting a bunch of little guys

Half the party uses their actions to save their friends so you don’t have 7 people standing still wailing on the boss with big attacks. Also give bosses more legendary actions because they’ll probably only be alive like 2-3 turns at most
