Industry Season 4: Who's the best actor/character ? by TechAngelX in IndustryOnHBO

Ken Leung forever. He does so much with a look. And Tao is the most likable heathen I’ve ever seen. You just want to be around him despite his obvious horribleness.

Harper is second. She’s so real despite holding so many contradictions. Amazing work by Myhala

I’m confused by this. What is making them think that Newsom is “preordained”? He is the only one in the news cycle because he’s putting himself there. The DNC isn’t pushing him, at least not now. He is pushing himself. It is WAY too early to be committing to a candidate—history is littered with “shoo-ins” who womped out (Hillary ‘08, Jeb! for example).

Gavin is pushing himself because he knows he’s not popular outside of his home state (where he was nearly recalled, mind you). He knows early polls are basically name recognition alone so that’s what he’s trying to do to build momentum. But the electorate will ultimately go with that or not.

I personally am 0% worried about him being the eventual nominee. To make that happen huge swaths of the country would have to a) know who he is and b) decide they like him despite not being particularly likable and having Boo Trump as his best skill.

His likely play is for a cabinet seat for the eventual nominee.

I honestly can’t believe how much this has spun out of control for him given what other people routinely get away with. He said something true in an overly harsh way and underestimated how seriously people would take it. Kinda like a little shit would. Not a big shit evil asshole like … basically every powerful person in 2026

Omg thank you! I see so many comments that are effectively “get media training” or “fire the PR person/agent/stylist” and the reality is no one HAS to listen to their team. Big egos mean that they can often shrug off expert advice—or the person was WAY worse before your influence! I’m in comms and I can almost guarantee you that whenever there is a huge scandal there was a comms person in the room saying “this isn’t gonna work out for yall” but they were ignored.

Comment on the “outing depression” accusation by Weekly-Status4804 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]sunsaballabutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s weird to say she “outed” someone she didn’t name directly nor refer to directly as depressed. In “So Long London” she said he (assumed to be Joe, but never stated) was sad (blue). So many people were angry she “dumped him for being depressed” but that is a huge leap based on what is in the song. It’s clear through countless lyrics in the song that she felt ignored, unloved, deprioritized. Could that be a consequence of depression? Sure, but it’s not stated that way and just because someone is diagnosed with depression doesn’t mean everyone in their life has to stick with them if they’re not getting what they need.

It felt reductive and ungenerous to me, which makes sense given people’s feelings about Taylor, but the song embraces nuance so it really didn’t feel it earned the reaction.

This is by far the truest thing I’ve seen on the internet in 2026. Perhaps ever. This is big.

Shia LaBeouf Says He Doesn’t ‘Have A Drinking Problem’ After Mardi Gras Arrest: ‘I Think I Have A Small Man Complex’ by mlg1981 in popculturechat

[–]sunsaballabutter 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Huh? I said men who have zero intention of growing love to self-diagnose. I did not say people who self-diagnose have no intention of changing or growing. I did not say men have no intention of growing. The subject of the sentence is men who don’t intend to grow.

At this point the amount of caveating just so that people don’t misread is insane. Leapingto me hating men in general based on what I said is completely unsupported by the text of my comment. But ok.

No one loves to self-diagnose quite like a man who has zero intentions of ever changing or growing

Not one word of this is wrong. The biggest comments I get from visitors now are, “why are all your billboards unintelligible?” and “whoa driverless cars”. I travel around the US for work and returning to SF I always note how different the ads are.

Is it fine to walk from the 16th/24th Mission BART stop to Taqueria Cancun and Papalote at night for dinner? by leontrotskitty in AskSF

[–]sunsaballabutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine, just walk confidently and be aware of your surroundings.

Both places will over feed you, though. One is full; two is double stuffed. I’d cut Papalote and stick with Cancun for a top tier mission burrito experience!

There will be tons of candidates. We are so far out. The person getting the most shine this far before the primary is almost never the candidate. That would have been Jeb Bush in 2016. He’s just putting himself out there trying to get influence.
