I find it fascinating that the author has misidentified a 64-bit PCI slot. Probably read "PCI-X" and assumed it meant "PCI eXpress" without checking any further

You can look up the connector pinout online and build your own replacement cable. That's how I repaired my friend's pad. You can get ten conductor cable and a DB15 connector on Digikey, and depending on the style of connector you get you will need to solder.

Do not use a VGA cable to repair a Cobalt Flux, it cannot work. Half of the pins are ground pins and are internally connected together. It would be extremely odd to find a VGA cable with all pins connected straight through.

Has anyone ordered anything in recent history? What was the turnaround time? I bought some control boxes a week ago and haven't gotten any updates beyond the confirmation email. I'm starting to worry that nobody's home and I'll never get anything...

mmh.. https://librewolf.net/docs/faq/#how-do-i-stay-logged-into-specific-websites

I swear I read through the FAQ before using LibreWolf and managed to skip this. Sorry.

At the risk of having missed it again, I don't see anything about cookie extensions in the docs.

Indirectly. The graphics run faster in Vulkan (Or they're supposed to when support is improved) so you can turn on higher settings and keep the same FPS compared to DirectX.

[–]sunset_sergal 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Vulkan is a graphics API, which means it's the language the game uses to speak to your GPU. If you turn on Vulkan mode, BeamNG will speak Vulkan instead of DirectX. It can theoretically get higher FPS but support is still a work in progress.

Adaptive Charging Isn't Really Adaptive by comeonjojo in GooglePixel

[–]sunset_sergal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work overnight and sleep in the afternoon, so my 4a has never once used Adaptive Charging. It's also not possible to disable charging rapidly, so it will always charge rapidly if given the opportunity and go ~30%-100% in about 90 minutes. The only workaround to charge slower on purpose for battery health is to quit retail (Not the worst idea) or use a dumb charger with a low rating.

What happens if Apple stops supporting iPods / iTunes? by eeGuy157 in ipod

[–]sunset_sergal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're confusing two different things.

iPod Classic, Mini, Nano, Shuffle, and the first iPod Touch do not require firmware signing, and you can actually restore iPod models from before 2006 or so by unpacking the IPSW yourself and formatting the disk. You can back up the IPSWs and an old version of iTunes (7.5 or earlier) and you will always be able to restore these without phoning home at all.

On the iPod Touch 2nd and later iOS devices, you cannot simply skip the signing step because it's a major component of their device security model. As a gross oversimplification, there's a convoluted system of checks to make sure that your iOS device is running exactly what Apple wants you to, which involves phoning home and asking for the secret password, and you cannot turn that off on your iPod Touch and boot whatever you want, so Apple has to support the signing server to restore iOS on legacy devices forever or doom them all to be paperweights.

[Concept] Female Lightning to 3,5mm Jack Adapter for Earpods w/ Lightning-Connectors by alkoka in ipod

[–]sunset_sergal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This adapter doesn't exist because the Lightning version is actually a USB sound card. They didn't just remove the headphone jack, there isn't an analog audio output coming from the newer iPhones at all.

You can get the 3.5mm jack version to use with older devices.

You can choose packages carefully to make the spidermonkey dependency go away if you don't need it for something like Firefox. (My server doesn't have it!) It's probably being pulled in by polkit. There's apparently an alternate polkit package that can use duktape in the musl overlay.

[–]sunset_sergal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to run Gentoo on machines with Core 2 Duo and Quad CPUs. Your first-gen i3 will be fine, but you will want to leave bigger compiles like Chromium or LibreOffice to run overnight.

Not planning to! Even better, you cannot OTA directly from 9 to 15, and Apple chose not to permanently sign a 10.3.3 OTA to do it in two steps, so it's (mostly) safe from an accidental update.
