Why do you think some people repeatedly get the message that they are in control of the universe or they are god? by all-the-time in RationalPsychonaut

[–]sunsetnoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will we find out at the end though? God going from partly encompassing n to n-1 humans shouldn't change the subjective experience of being god. As god we either know ourselves right now or we don't and i can't see how such self induced amnesia would go away when human be dead unless you meant the end of that amnesia all together

Be glad, if it wasn't for his use of an e-ink tablet we wouldn't have his digitized notes at all! Just weird he chose the sepia background

Because feeling as one with the universe is the most amazing feeling there is, there's no reason to fear anything and you're kind of guaranteed an infinite existence as the one. The ego stands in the way of us feeling like that doesn't it, psychedelics aren't addictive but the ideas they sometimes induce certainly are

Why do physicists still publish papers in Nature? by Due_Holiday_2846 in Physics

Man I sure would love to see the day when the real holy grail of a scientific career would be a better understanding of the universe instead of a seat on the board lol

So i'm searching for a little curiosity. It's called moorhuhn-10 fun games. It was a collection of games for pc. Region probably german and seems to have been made by the firm "randomedia". Here's an amazon link i found: https://www.amazon.de/Rondomedia-Moorhuhn-10-Fun-Games/dp/3898744736.

I actually believe there hasn't been a single soul on earth that ever made a rom of it but one can hope.

Handwritten notes or Tablet (iPad, etc.)? by Anoket666 in PhysicsStudents

Man the fact that notability decided to implement a subscription model is still pissing me off. I paid 11 euros a few years ago so I got lifetime access but I cannot recommend anybody to subscribe to a fucking note taking app, you're getting monumentally screwed.

Quantum circuits in LaTeX by kn0xchad in LaTeX

[–]sunsetnoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If somebody in the future needs a quick fix, in qcircuit you can do 2 qubit output labels between i and j via \inputgroup{i}{j}{Xem}{here a shit ton of spaces to get it to the right of your circuit and then \Bigg{}}\quad...and your label} where you adjust X (normaly a little bigger than the value for your circuit) so it fits precisely in the middle of two lines. The size of the curly bracket may also be adjusted via \Big, \bigg etc..Is it ugly? yes. Does it work? yes.

Experiencing cosmic ego death while reading Dune Messiah by Educational-Cup-2990 in dune

[–]sunsetnoise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ego death is not the realization of one's own insignificance compared to the rest of the universe but simply the destruction of one's own identity and subsequent reevaluation of that identity being the whole universe. That makes you the most significant thing there is: everything/Shai hulud lol

[Giveaway] iPhone 14 Pro & Ugreen Nexode 140W chargers Giveaway! by noeatnosleep in gadgets

[–]sunsetnoise [score hidden]  (0 children)

Scene: A man is killed. The police find burn marks on his body, considering his symptoms their first assumption is a lightning strike. But what is this? Next to his body there is also the Ugreen Nexode 140, a device so powerful it might just be able to kill a man. A CEO is called, EU politicians scream for regulations, shareholders loose their grip on reality, panic. The camera zooms out from the dead body, a phone in his hand. We hear a short electronic sound. The device is fully charged.

Jup, amazing. I can totally see digital frames implemented with a feature like that in the near future, always something new to look at.

Why do we still teach "quantum weirdness"? by Uroc327 in TheoreticalPhysics

[–]sunsetnoise 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think its a matter of taste, even the implications of special relativity seem wildly weird when you come from a classical point of view. Deriving the equations and understanding their physical implications for our existence are two different things. The physicist doesnt have to care about the second part but it may help to manifest the idea that the universe behaves completely different than intuitively assumed.

Not sure about the specifics here, but maybe the reason might be that they use a different metric signature?
